UK charts: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is the fastest selling release of 2021 so far

The latest UK physical video games charts are now in courtesy of GfK. It was a big week for Nintendo with the release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury on the Switch. The game turned out to be the fastest-selling release of the year so far, which is an impressive feat and made its debut at No.1. Games Industry also notes that the launch of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury was almost three times the size of the original game. Super Mario 3D World launched in November 2013 and debuted at No.14. Here’s all the details:

“It is actually the third biggest launch for a Mario platform game on Nintendo Switch, ahead of the 2D games — Super Mario Maker 2 (June 2019) and New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe (January 2019) — but behind the 3D titles — Super Mario Odyssey (October 2017) and Super Mario 3D All-Stars (September 2020), which seems somewhat fitting for a game that is a cross between Mario’s 2D and 3D adventures. The title’s launch physical sales are more than 2.5 times bigger than New Super Mario Bros U, but a third smaller than Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

Overall, it looks like a solid performance. There are a number of Mario games being pushed in the market right now competing with one another, including last year’s All-Stars game. In fact, the 3D collection (no.12) saw an 11% spike in sales this week and Super Mario Odyssey (No.14) enjoyed a 28% sales increase. With Mario Kart 8: Deluxe at No.5, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe at No.16, Super Mario Party at No.18 and Luigi’s Mansion 3 at No.19, there are seven games set in the Mario universe in the boxed Top 20.”

  1. I got my copy from Best Buy and it wasnt that many left. I’m love both 3D World one of my favorite 3D Mario Games. I played it online with 3 friends. It was incredible.

Bowser’s Furybis incredible too. It feels more like an evolve form of Mario Sunshine.

  2. Finished Bowser’s Fury in 2 days (100%) and it was the best Mario experience I’ve ever had. I hope they do someting more with the fully open world concept in a platformer, it was loads of fun. I am a bit sad that it ended so quickly.

  3. This is the house that Mario built. Video games video game. Even though I am a video game player, that likes systems and this amazing hobby; this is too much winning by Nintendo. They need to give us a brand new 2 D Mario next year. With the money they have made with WiiU games released once again on the switch. Easy money may I add. Happy néw year everyone.
