Review aggregation site Metacritic has listed the top twenty video game publishers of 2020 by Metascore. The winner, it turns out, was the one and only SEGA. The long-running company had the best average Metascore for all the publisher’s 2020 games making it No.1. The list below includes publishers which had five or more games released last year. You will notice that Nintendo only came in 9th in 2020, Microsoft was 6th with the highly rated Microsoft Flight Simulator and  Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and Sony was 4th. SEGA’s 2020 releases averaged 81.6% and 95% were Good and none were Bad. Persona 5 Royal (PS4) and Yakuza 0 managed to receive a Metascore of over 90 and Techspot points out that console ports of Two Point Hospital and Bayonetta also helped boost the company’s score.

  1. I’m surprised snoy got such a high rank with the excessive censorship they force onto Japanese anime styled games recently. I wish Sega would port the gamecube sonic games to Nintendo switch as digital downloads such as sonic adventure, sonic adventure 2, sonic heroes, shadow the hedgehog and sonic riders.

  2. I love SEGA but this award is not justified because Persona 5 and Yakuza 0 are 2016 and 2015 games respectively. Just because they release a repacked version doesn’t mean they should win

    1. Sadly, I’m inclined to agree. These are the same people who gave the Sonic movie a 44 out of 100 rating.

      1. tf do you mean ‘these are the people.’ 44 was a weighted average from many different critics lmao.
