Cross-Play is finally coming to Overwatch

Cross-Play Beta is coming to Overwatch, allowing players to group up and play together. Powered by the latest global Battle.net update, players from around the world can team up, regardless of their preferred platform. The global Battle.net updates merges friends lists from different territories into one, so players no longer need to switch regions in Battle.net just to play with buddies on the other side of the planet.

For the release of cross-play, all players will need to make a Battle.net account and link their appropriate console accounts. Everyone who follows the steps below and logs in to Overwatch by Dec. 31, 2021 will receive a Golden Loot Box to celebrate the launch of Cross-Play Beta. The Overwatch Cross-Play Beta officially launches soon on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

  1. I am all for cross-play, but aren’t Switch players at an innate disadvantage since their version runs at 30fps?

    1. The Fps difference will barley matter. Whats will matter is the significant competitive advange mouse and keyboard has over controllers for shooters.

      1. Oh trust me, having played Overwatch on PC, PS4, and Switch, the FPS difference will definitely matter. Overwatch Switch is a borderline unplayable game due to FPS and the low res. What gets you by is that everyone else is playing the same borderline unplayable game. Take that away and you are going to get destroyed.

The keyboard and mouse vs controller advantage is huge too, and I imagine that they will likely segregate lobbies based on input methods. In fact, I think they kind of have to, because the balancing is different on console vs PC, with characters like Torbjorn (because of his turret, whose aim advantage is more marked compared to controller players) nerfed on console compared to PC.

But controller Switch is a ridiculous disadvantage vs controller PS4 also. Switch is at a huge disadvantage to everyone else.

      2. You would have to do quite a lot of work to convince me that any action game does not get a notable difference jumping from 30 to 60 fps.

The emulation lag on an NES emulator is what…… 0.2ms? and I find emulated Mega Man 1 unplayable compared to the original. A framerate double makes about the same difference.

  2. Cross platform should just be between consoles in my opinion, not consoles and PC. It makes the games less fun.
