UK May 2021 software and hardware charts: PS5 No.1, Xbox Series X|S No.2, Switch No.3

playstation 5, nintendo switch, xbox series x

The UK video game software and hardware charts for the month of May 2021 have arrived and it has been a busy month for new releases with Resident Evil: Village, New Pokemon Snap, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, and more, all releasing during the month of May. The best-selling game was Capcom’s latest survival horror title Resident Evil: Village. We also had the first new entry in years for the beloved Pokemon Snap series, New Pokemon Snap (Review) release for the Nintendo Switch. The game entered the charts at No.10, however it should be noted that Nintendo doesn’t share digital data, so it has most likely charted higher. In terms of hardware the PlayStation 5 was the best selling console followed by the Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch in third. Check out the UK charts for the month of May below!

“Switch sales are down year-on-year currently. Nintendo’s console enjoyed a big boost in March, April and May 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown and the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which explains the unfavourable comparison. If we compare this year’s performance to 2019, Switch sales are up 60% year-to-date.”

  1. Good. This the only way people going to get a Switch Pro. I want PS5 sales to take over Japan too. Otherwise Nintendo will he like GTA5 and MK8,and have no reason to bring out something else

    1. Or you, game development takes away now and the new games just aren’t ready yet so the pprts are there to fill in the gaps. Even the PS5 launch had a half game and a remake as two of their 3 big exclusives. Xbox still doesn’t even have anything 1st party =b

      1. Not an excuse anymore… Wheres the new mario kart? Donkey kong ect? Ports take time away from development too and the ones nintendo has ported where lazy asf… Mario 3d allstars, ss hd, ect.

Ps5 and nextbox released not that long ago, at least being new hardware garuntees new AAA titles down the line.

Switch has been out for 4 years and is still getting more ports than worthwhile games..

        1. The issue is that Nintendo still doesn’t have the full support of western 3rd parties. The other consoles actually do get just as many ports as Nintendo, but they are deluded by the fact they also get every major AAA multiplat game. (Look back at the PS4 and a bunch of Sony old IPs only got HD remasters/light remake and no new games at all). E3 is also in less tahn a week, so I would wait until after then before saying certain IPs aren’t getting new games. Though, as of right now Sony and Xbox have been doing a better job with their remasters/remakes. Before this generation their “HD Remasters” where exactly the same as Nintendo. So just like with their online Nintendo is behind a generation with this stuff. The 3ds had remakes dome better than the Switch/WiiU has/had. Except Link’s Awakening of course.

          1. Im sorry but the remasters on other systens are not rhe same as when nintendo dies it. Models got touched up noticeably in the last of us remake as an example. Mario 3d allstars is the exact same as when they were on the systems they released on. Tp hd was only retuxtured no new models nintendo has been super lazy with ports … I love them but its true

            1. It’s a shame Xenoblade Chronicles on Switch, Wind Waker on Wii U, & Link’s Awakening on Switch are the exceptions to the rule when it comes to great ports from Nintendo.

  2. Very interesting news about software, thanks. It’s great that the software is developing and does not stand still. A variety of applications for entertainment or business appear every day and you should carefully choose what to use.

  3. To be honest, I am not very surprised by these results. I would say that this can be observed for several years. I am engaged in the business of game consoles myself, but I can’t even imagine how you can overcome these titans with a new product. By the way, I am looking for a partner, so far I have found hardware contractors for business on Engre.co. But we’ll see what happens from this.

  4. Thank you for this insightful overview of the UK video game charts for May 2021! It’s fascinating to see how the gaming landscape continues to evolve with each passing month. Resident Evil: Village’s success as the best-selling game demonstrates the enduring popularity of survival horror titles. And it’s no surprise that the Nintendo Switch, despite a year-on-year dip, maintains a strong presence, given its impressive library of games.
