Nintendo Treehouse’s Bill Trinen had plenty to say to IGN about what The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is, even though he couldn’t reveal anything new about the game itself. One topic in particular had been about comparisons to Majora’s Mask, and if the game is really its own thing.
Trinen understands why, for the time being, that this is happening. He said to IGN that “I would say it’s an easy comparison or conclusion to jump to at this point in time, just given what’s been shown so far and given the nature of it being a direct sequel. So I understand people making that conclusion, but at the same time – and I don’t want to delve too much into it – but this is its own game”. He also doesn’t seem to think that it’s entirely fair to make comparisons to how Majora’s Mask reused parts of its predecessor, saying that “I think as we start to show a bit more of the game over the coming months to the next year or so, it’ll probably start to be a bit more apparent where this game stands on its own and what makes it so unique”.
Lastly, Trinen also said that “the way that [this sequel] builds on Breath of the Wild, which already was such an expansive game with so many layers of Link’s abilities and layers to the gameplay… I think this is going to layer quite a bit more into that”. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is slated to release on the Nintendo Switch next year.
“I think as we start to show a bit more of the game over the coming months to the next year or so”
Translation: expect BotW 2 to release alongside Switch Pro for the Holidays.
I hope your joking, but it feels like maybe we might get a game awards trailer or something like that towards the end of the year
Who cares if it releases alongside a new system? I played BotW on the Wii U and was still blown away.
All I ask is for actual dungeons in the game.
I only got the first game of breath of the wild because of the weaponry selections and the motorcycle. That’s why.
And for Ganondorf to have an awesome voice. If they Super Mario Sunshine Bowser his voice, I’ll be fucking livid.
For sure I hope we get dungeons instead of 4 beasts, no knock on beasts those were interesting, just not full dungeons. If there is a whole ‘nother map in the sky that you can jump off of and land in Hyrule, no cutscene in control of character the whole time, that would be something.
I think the whole beast thing was done poorly. It probably would’ve been fine if each one had its own theme, but instead it felt like the same dungeon divided up into different areas with its music and architecture.
I do love dungeons in any games honestly. I hope they stay true on what they said in the sequel. Besides Nintendo has been reusing stuff in all of their games for years now like Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Super Mario and Yoshi.
I always like top down or windwaker Zelda the 3d Zelda’s never interested me much, hope this does satisfies the Zelda fans though.
Dungeons are a must. Hope they brought those back, and edit the weapons system or longer durability at least
Wasn’t BotW already its own thing, while Nintendo stopped making LOZ games apart from the Link’s Awakening remake and SS port.
I’m a little confused how they stopped making Zelda games. They typically release at least one new Zelda game per console
Shouldn’t it be clear it’s very different well before we even start playing? I’m not sure I’m even buying it otherwise.
