Technology publication The Verge contacted Nintendo to clarify whether the newly announced Nintendo Switch (OLED model) features any new technology beneath the hood. The Kyoto-based company clarified that the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) does not feature a new CPU or include any additional RAM than the current models. What you do get is a newer OLED screen for better picture quality when playing the Switch in handheld mode, better audio, a new stand system, and more internal storage. The Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will launch on 8th October and has a suggested retail price of $349.99
Nintendo has confirmed to The Verge that there are no major internal changes to the CPU or memory. “Nintendo Switch (OLED model) does not have a new CPU, or more RAM, from previous Nintendo Switch models,” says a Nintendo spokesperson.
Yah, obviously. What people actually want to know is this the only new model or is just them adding the new features to the base model, much like how they added the new chipswt from tge Switch Lite to the base model.

Well this is very disappointing. Guess we have to wait ~3 years for the Switch 2 to actually get any worthwhile improvements. At least I’ll have some extra cash in the pocket in the fall as it makes zero sense to buy this unimpressive, dated piece of tech.

I expect it to have a minor power push like it should be able to play most current games 1080p 60fps I dont want 4k I just want to play hyrule warriors smoothly or overwatch 60fps.. what they announced with this many years of waiting is pointless for the current switch owner and doesnt make sense to upgrade its not an upgrade its just another version so ppl have more choices of the same device released 4 years ago.. as much as I love the switch it really needs the extra power I am not gonna defend nintendo’s weak hardware this time as I suffer from framerate drops in many games for this to get announced and not make any bad comment about it I hope for once no one buys it and nintendo understand that they cant get away with whatever just because they are nintendo
I get you man. The current 4 year old switch is not so bad as evident from running heft games like Odyssey and Smash Ultimate at full HD 60fps. The problem are the software developers who can’t make their games run properly on an otherwise okay device like Switch. Hyrule Warriors AoC is a good example.
I think the developers behind the games like Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Hyrule Warriors, Doom, Overwatch.. are not lazy and tried their best to compromise and try fit their games in the system that cannot handle games that BIG.. true that few Nintendo titles can hit 60fps and 1080p but thats their console and for sure they would go the extra extra mile to make it look perfect and with that being said even BOTW big Nintendo game cannot do 1080p 60fps and I can imagine why.. BOTW one of many games that could massively benefit from the extra power.. its an issue.. the lack of power is the main switch issue to me and I am being reasonable for asking for full HD in 2021

I use to be against the idea of Nintendo being a publisher for other consoles… But sometime I wish they were. I’m not a whore for graphics, but when I play New Horizons and run through my town, there is multiple sections where it’s getting 15 fps and I’m playing the game at half speed. I could only imagine if we could have these games on hardware that could handle it better.
The size of this thing isn’t even practical, lol. The current Switch never gave me a desire for a bigger version, and I imagine the weight of this thing would get uncomfortable. They’re just milking the cheap hardware as long as they can.
Yeah, they said its going to be a powerful switch but to me, I don’t think it is. I also notice that the Joy-Cons from the original system will be reusing and we all know the Joy-Con drift will continue.
It’s legit just a different size and different screen display, but if I wanna play on a better display I’ll just play on my tv. May as well do that since this thing isn’t really portable at all.
This thing is legit and all but, I’m most likely gonna skip this and some of us know the drift will continue overtime on the new pro witch I was correct from the beginning. It’s possible that they might fixed the issue and they just wanted to slide the whole thing under the rug.
I’m gonna stick to my current Switch as well. Hopefully the eventual Switch Pro or whatever the successor is won’t be huge like this.
Yeah same here. I will stick with my current Switch as well. I mean, there won’t be a successor for the Switch just yet. I’m pretty sure they are working on it right now.
I read it had the same exact dimensions. The reduced the bevel size to make room for a bigger display. Even current joycons work on it. Am I missing something?
It’s only a bit heavier which I think is still okay compared to say ipads and other tablets.
I guess the picture makes it very misleading, because it looks ginormous. I guess the difference is only the OLED and LED display?
And also I never got Ipads and tablets because they’re jusst so impractical. A laptop is more convenient to use.
I know this new model will include the original Joy-Cons from the original model. I’m concern that the Joy-Cons will drift in this new model. I’m not that stupid. So, I’m gonna skip this and I’m not abandoning my original Nintendo Switch. I rather stick with the one that changes me a few years ago and made me a better gamer.

Forget promises (the OLED wasn’t promised to us either), I wanted a good revision before hearing about Pro rumors. 4 years is a long time to go without a decent revision. Think about it this way: 3 years after the 3DS released, the New 3DS XL released with better capabilities than the original system. It’s been 4 years since the Switch released, and in that time they’ve released two different versions of the exact same model. The OLED revision is not helpful for TV players because the enhancements only affect handheld play.
I love my Switch, but I don’t love it enough to buy basically the exact same system twice with zero TV enhancements
I can only speak for my region but the 3DS released in NA: March 27, 2011. The New Nintendo 3DS XL released in NA: February 13, 2015.

Well one potential positive is that Metroid Prime 4 is being developed for the next gen console, launch provably. The news today means maybe next gen console 2022 – 23ish, right? Metroid Prime 4 isn’t coming 2022 right? Splatoon 3 is announced already for 2022, MP4 probably not.
It’s basically what the Switch should’ve been at launch except they waited 4 years to put it out.
