Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is releasing on multiple platforms, including the Switch, on October 28th

You may recall that, back in the E3 2021 Nintendo Direct, there was a surprising announcement of a Nintendo Switch port of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. The 5th entry in the Fatal Frame series originally released on the Wii U in September of 2017, and it’s about to find some new life on the Nintendo Switch.

Koei Tecmo has officially confirmed that the game “launches digitally on October 28th, 2021 across North America on Nintendo Switch/PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox One X|S, PC via Steam”. If you Pre-order the game, you’ll be able to receive a Atelier Ryza costume that only Yuri Kozukata can put on.

There is also going to be a Fatal Frame 20th anniversary celebration DLC that includes a 20th anniversary digital art book, and costumes that the game’s 3 protagonists can wear that are iconic outfits from previous games in the series. You can see Koei Tecmo’s tweet, which also contains a link to an overview trailer that has been released alongside the news, down below.

  1. I bet the US won’t get a physical version on switch.
If this happens I at least have a somewhat backup plan, import the Japanese or Asian version, one or both will support english.

  2. Just to clarify, this game was originally released on the the Wii U in Japan in September 2014 and worldwide in October 2015 and not September 2017 the Switch would have been out for about 6 months or so by then

  3. Jesus, come on, digital again? Even friggen Crus’n Blast is getting a physical release. Is Nintendo or KoeiTecmo publishing it? Hopefully if its not Nintendo, it means a company like Limited Run or someone else can manage to go a physical run for it.
