Motohiro Okubo, the acclaimed producer behind such gaming hits as Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur VI amongst others, has announced that he is leaving Japanese firm Bandai Namco after a lengthy 25 years to join an unannounced development studio based in Shibuya, Japan. Mr. Okubo will start new role tomorrow and has thanked the staff that he has worked with over the years and all the fans who have enjoyed his work. Here’s what he wrote in a message posted on his personal Twitter account today.
“It’s been a while, but I will be leaving Bandai Namco Entertainment on August 31. From tomorrow, I will be working at a game company located in Shibuya. 25 years ago, I joined the former Namco and met various people. I am greatful to all the people I met.
Especially through Soul Calibur VI, I received enormous power from players all over the world. Thank you very much. I’d like to show you various goods I’ve received from everyone, but there are too many! Allow me to show you the ‘9 million units’ cushion, received last week from the development team of Tekken and Soul Calibur!
Once again, thank you, thank you and thank you!”
