Nintendo reiterates that the SEGA Mega Drive six-button controller is only for Japan

Nintendo has reiterated that the superior six-button SEGA Mega Drive controller for use with the upcoming SEGA Mega Drive games for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be limited to Japan. Those of us living here in the west will have to make do with the standard three-button controller. A spokesperson for Nintendo of America told Polygon that the three-button controller is the most familiar for customers living in North America. Still, it is strange to hear that Nintendo won’t be adopting the superior six-button controller here in the west.

“Different regions make different decisions based on a variety of factors. For the U.S. and Canada, a replica of the original SEGA Genesis controller is the available model. This was by far the more widely used and well-known SEGA Genesis controller in these regions.”

  1. This isn’t really a problem, you can get a high quality official wireless Sega 6 button Genesis controller for cheap.

    They were made with the Switch in mind, so they even have Home and Select buttons:
