Metroid Dread has been updated to version 1.0.1

metroid dread

You may recall that, last week, Nintendo had confirmed their awareness of a bug that happens near the end of Metroid Dread. They also announced that “a patch will be released by the end of October to fix this. We apologize for the inconvenience”. They did not give an exact date at the time.

Well, Nintendo decided to release the update tonight. When you update Metroid Dread, the game should be at version 1.0.1. As for the patch notes, the only focus is on bug fixes. The bug fix that Nintendo had confirmed would be in the patch is also included in this update. The patch notes can be seen down below.

General Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where, if a map marker is placed on a specific door on the map screen (the door destroyed with the beam obtained at the end of the game), destroying that door at the end of the game would cause the game to forcefully quit with the message “The software was closed because an error occurred”.
  • Fixed several other issues to improve overall gameplay experience.

    1. There is literally nothing to fix there, if you don’t have the capability to be in freezing cold environments and you end up doing it, that’s pretty much on you LOL

      1. Nah, it’s actually a very simple fix. The game just shouldn’t place checkpoints in icey/firey rooms as long as Samus doesn’t have the respective suit yet. Would immediately get rid of the problem without really affecting any average players.

          1. Trouble is, what if it could be part of the puzzle of the game and get through an area before you die. I know it’s not, but it’s a possible thing in a game.

          2. No. Just because you weren’t intended to be here without the suit that prevents you from taking damage from the cold doesn’t mean they shouldn’t take precautions in case you do reach that point this way.

A similar example within Dread is the fight against Kraid. Normal gameplay would bring you to Kraid before obtaining the morph ball bombs, however it is possible to reach the upgrade with careful and precise jumps. With the bombs, now you can one shot Kraid during his second phase. They didn’t have to do this, but they realized that getting the bombs early was possible and decided to reward the player for exploring.

In the example of her dying from the cold, they clearly didn’t think about the possibility of someone making it this far while being low on health. For a game that strides itself in exploration despite dangers, that’s an oversight simply put. Whether or not it’s a huge deal or not is a different debate, but it is definitely an issue that would be nice if it were addressed

          3. Because checkpoints are designed to protect the player, not screw them over?

            I mean, obviously?

The player can’t even see where the checkpoints are, or whether or not the next room is icy before they go in. How are they supposed to account for this possibility?

I beat GnG games. I think its pushing it to call Dark Souls “hard”. I would rather every Metroid game open the whole game up for you at the beginning like the original did, and even I know you’re being completely ridiculous.

    2. Damn. They were actually doing really well til the EMMI caught ’em. Sucks that a checkpoint insta-killed them when restarting from there. It’s not even the checkpoint per se but the fact the checkpoint thinks their health is at 0 upon restarting.

      1. In this case, the checkpoint reloads the player’s location with the amount of health remaining at the moment they entered the E.M.M.I. zone, which was 3. However, the first tick of damage taken from extreme heat/cold is 4, with the amount of damage per tick slowly increasing the longer the player stays in the area without the proper suit upgrade. Since the damage is taken as soon as the player enters the extreme heat/cold, the player’s health drops to zero as soon as the area loads, giving not so much as a fraction of a second to react. As funny as this is, it’s a huge oversight; might even be as bad as the endless death a player can experience fighting Silver in Sonic ’06.

  1. Bit late for a fix when everyone already finished a game that only lasts 8 hours to get 100% in and kill the final boss :)

I did enjoy the game btw but its more on a indie game level than a 2021 triple A title. But its also 4,5 gb vs 100-140gb of big titles.

    1. BTW i’m a huge Metroid fan I still play the Snes game every 5-8 years or so wich is one of the few 90s games I still play on that regular basis.

I played Hollow knight awhile back wich reminded me allot of Metroid and Castlevania , they could have learned allot from that game. For example it took allot more time to complete up to 40 hours and played allot more modern I guess.
