The Game Awards will be significantly shorter with less major new game announcements

this year's the game awards logo

It seems Geoff Keighley, the enthusiastic organiser and presenter of The Game Awards, has learnt a lesson from over hyping the annual event. Geoff says that this year’s event will be significantly shorter than previous entries which have often gone on too long with too many adverts and commercial breaks. Geoff also said that there will be less major game announcements than previous years, which stacks up given that Nintendo decided to unleash the second Super Mario Bros Movie trailer independently from the event. Capcom also decided to reveal that Monster Hunter Rise is coming to other platforms include Game Pass in next month outside of the annual event. Here’s what he told fans via a recording on Twitter.

“I won’t say anything officially until we’re through our rehearsals but we think it’s going to be significantly shorter”

“We definitely have cut back pretty significantly in terms of the runtime on the show and just you know kind of fewer games fewer bigger games that’ll be in there and you know people always debate about are they presenting enough”

“But we’ve got some really great announcements. I think some really amazing studios around the world that are participating in the show this year. There’s some games that I’ve been. hoping and wanting to show for a number of years that are finally ready this year to up to showcase to to folks at the game awards so we’re very very happy with how that’s coming together”

  1. Wait…do my eyes deceive me? Geoff is actually not over-hyping TGA and being more transparent? What’s next? Is Gruntilda gonna admit she was wrong about Miyamoto?

    1. I feel like this may have had something to do with the backlash that happen during this years summerfest, these events are way too over hype than they need to be, why are we still at point where we need to put multiple game against it each other to see which is better than the others in different categories especially since everyone is going to have their own game that made their year.

  2. To be honest, the games typically announced at The Game Awards tend to not interest me most of the time, so I don’t mind this too much. It also means less waiting to hear Xenoblade music at the show

  3. Keighly is proud to announce that for the first time ever, the categories of “Game of the Year” and “Best Family Game” will be replaced by “Best Fortnite Crossover” and “Best Studio Purchased and Gutted by Tencent in a Hostile Buyout,” respectively. Also the event will now be hosted by Schick Hydrobot. Brought to you by Schick™, Tencent™ and Epic Games™!

  4. Im stocked that Monster Hunter Rise is releasing on other platforms. Highly anticipating that and Neptunia Sister vs Sister in January. “You know” The Game Awards will still get hyped up “You know” Everyone always on that hype train. Maybe Geoff is selling The Game Awards short intentionally, implying it won’t be as long and not as many new game announcements. The rehearsal is them selling it short, so they can surprise everyone with all the major new announcements.

The GAME AWARDS is an international event. It is unfortunatete that the date in the photo is written in a form only the citizens of the United States use (mm/dd/yy – 12/8/22) when all the other 194 countries on this planet write the date as dd/mm/yy – 2/12/22.
