Ubisoft says Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope & Just Dance 2023 underperformed

Ubisoft seems to be under quite some pressure at the moment as the company announced today that it has now canceled three more unannounced games and had to delay the ill-fated Skull and Bones, yet again. Now we have heard from the company that both Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023 have underperformed and they haven’t lived up to expectation sales-wise. Sparks of Hope received a substantial price drop here in the UK, just before the all-important Christmas shopping period.

“We are clearly disappointed by our recent performance. We are facing contrasted market dynamics as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and everlasting live games, in the context of worsening economic conditions affecting consumer spending.”

“Despite excellent ratings and players’ reception as well as an ambitious marketing plan, we were surprised by Mario + Rabbids® Sparks of Hope underperformance in the final weeks of 2022 and early January. Just Dance 2023 underperformed as well.”

Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer.

    1. Honestly if Ubisoft wasn’t always putting the games on sale almost every sec Mario+rabbid sequel would have most likely done better, I mean the sequel has went on sale like two times, with the the first sale going up after a month of the games release, theirs even one going on now I believe with the new years sale

  1. Maybe they shouldn’t have changed so much in Mario+Rabbids. Dropping you into the middle to the story, making Beep-O extremely annoying, veering away from the Mario connection….

  2. Well at least they’re being honest about it. That doesn’t usually happen much in the industry. More often than not there’s always excuses and some attempt at positive spin.

  3. Well this could be a case of affordability. Sometimes we have to cut back on purchases thanks to the inflation around the world. I bought Mario Rabbids for my Son but not for myself or my wife as we just chose it to not be a priority. As for Just Dance I stopped buying it due to the Subscription Model in place for more songs. I also was not happy last year when i bought it on PS5 and found out i couldnt use my Move Controllers to play. I dont want to swing around a $1000 Phone while dancing. I wish they made a custom controller that was more comfortable. So Move Controllers work on PS4 version of Game but not PS5 and Ubisoft didnt want to give me the PS4 version instead. At that point if your too lazy to program in more controller options then your not going to get my money again.

  4. As long as Ubisoft continues to focus on crap games, doing more of the same, and not giving people the games they actually WANT to play, things will get worse.

-Enough Just Dance nonsense. Especially with this crappy subscription for more song.
-Enough Mario + Rabbids. It was a novel idea, but obviously the novelty would wear off. For that matter, enough Rabbids.
-Enough Assassin’s Creed that are Assassin’s Creed in name only. Odyssey and Valhalla are good games, but awful AC games.
-Where is Rayman (a true 3D one, enough 2D nonsense, considering how Legends is just an expansion pack to Origins)? Where’s Prince of Persia? Where’s Beyond Good & Evil? You know, the games people actually WANT to play?

  5. I’ll be completely honest… the first Mario Rabbids game goes on sale so often, I’m completely fine with waiting for the sequel to go on sale in half a year or so.

  6. Probably a game we were not in need off. I didn’t buy it because, what I wanted was an Odessey 2 game from Nintendo. But what I’m going to see is Mario movie next year.

  7. Rabbids is the reason no one like Rabbids the game looks amazing but me and my friends didn’t buy it or care about it because we hate Rabbids so much.

  8. Because of ppl like u we cant have nice things.

Enjoy the hell u created and continue to create.

All woke companies are having the same issues as Ubisoft. Ppl are getting smart and telling these companies to stop catering to the minority. Dont believe the left are a minority?Twitter should show you that woke culture was all fake and dumb and ppl fell for it cause it was the current thing msg. Once the bots disappeared so did the brain washing. Wake up and join the real world.

  9. I’ll wait for a sale like usual, im perfectly fine with waiting for a price drop. My backlog is long enough already, by the time i catch up the games will be in the discount section at Dollar General or Dollar Tree.

  10. For me, personally, Just Dance 2023 was such a hard sell compared to every version beforehand;
    – Only available as a code in a box or eShop: No Cartridge
    – Needs Ubisoft Connect and Nintendo Switch Online to get past the title screen
    – Whole game is geared towards online only live service: Offline mode requires an extra 6GB download
    – Season passes and live service being pushed instead of anual updates
    – Some in-game cosmetics tied to Uplay coins

It just doesn’t feel like a good value, consumer friendly game. If it wasn’t for needing to buy the game for a social club I work with, i would not have bothered with it.
