A dazzling rarity in the gaming world is set to turn heads and wallets at an upcoming auction. The Swarovski crystal-studded Nintendo DS, adorned with 2,000 crystals, is anticipated to command bids starting at a staggering £15,000. Commissioned by Nintendo and crafted by NYC Peach, this opulent handheld features a pink paw print design, commemorating the release of Nintendogs in 2005. Only five of these exquisite designs were ever produced, with one still gracing the New York Nintendo store. The handheld, slated for auction at the Wessex Auction Rooms on May 2nd, comes complete with its charger and two styluses. Despite some minor screen scratches, its overall condition remains commendable.
Interest in the lot has transcended borders, drawing attention from global enthusiasts and potential bidders. According to auctioneer Tim Weeks, the winning bid could originate from diverse quarters, ranging from Hollywood celebrities to discerning collectors in Japan. With estimates ranging from £15,000 to £18,000, the final bid promises to be a spectacle in itself.

This is the stuff only collectors want cause it looks ugly as a hell lol
Happy for whoever gets this (and is rich enough to do so lol) but I personally could never see myself buying a console or handheld like this sdfgdgfg. Not just because of the pricepoint— but because like, could you really consider this one of the ‘Limited Edition’ handhelds? It was commissioned by Nintendo, but it never hit market or got a wide release…
Consoles like that to me shouldn’t count for completionist purposes as a collector, since they’re more like customized exceptions than actual special editions you could get when there’s only 1 or a handful made for an event or something. Like if someone was gonna collect Switch consoles, they shouldn’t count the Labo contest release as one to buy— and if someone’s going after every Wii, they shouldn’t try and get the golden wii that one publisher made as a gift to a queen.
Like I think it’d be cool to have a couple of special or limited edition DS’s, since I’m a big Nintendo handheld fan— maybe even decades from now having all the releases would be super cool? But I can’t personally see why someone would want one of five customized ones like this sdfgffg…
Especially at a price like that…
looks bad!
