After a few hours of video game announcements, speeches and much more, it is all over. The Game Awards has concluded for another year. It was a busy year for game reveals, There were a lot of games up for contention in multiple categories, but not all of them can take home an award. Best I recall, there was a reel of 3rd party games on Switch and… that was about it for Nintendo’s presence at TGA.
Part of the fun of Drift Hunters is sharing your progress. Post your high scores, setups, and drift videos on forums, Discord, or YouTube. You’ll pick up tips and maybe even join informal competitions.
And with that, TGA has lost any remaining credibility they had. I’ve never seen more blatant fraud with that GOTY.
I’m curious now. Why are people upset about Astrobot winning? I’ve seen nothing but good things about it. iirc the other nominees were (great games but) a remake, dlc, an indie game, and a jrpg. Seems pretty expected for the 3D platformer that was also a big celebration of Sony IP would win out.
Oh, and Black Myth Wukong which was also well received but also unfairly controversial. TBH I was expecting that to win.
That game got robbed of being the winner just because activists disguised as journalist were peepee hurt that the game wasn’t “diverse” enough.
It’s good, but it isn’t great. Considering the other nominations, the only way it could’ve conceivably won was if Sony paid the panel.
It thoroughly deserves the win. Great to see a platformer take top prize as well.
No it didn’t lmao, Astrobot was mid as hell. Sony 100% paid them off for this sham of an award.
IT’S METAPHOVER.
Also can I say that the new naughty dog game looked beyond fucking garbage, they shoved us 200 ads in one single trailer for a nothingburgers trailer and an ugly ass character like damn, thank you naughty dog
ur opinion = irrelevant
Funny how they mentioned Palworld at TGA
and you know someone will mention Palworld under this CFG comment I JUST KNOW IT
To the people of this site, I have a simple question, and I want an honest answer: will the victory of Astro Bot change your relationship with Mario and all of Nintendo’s franchises?
@ABC – That’s quiet impossible, especially since Astrobot pretty much copied Mario Sunshine.
It’s funny how Nintendo’s wrost 3D Mario, made a winner for Sony!
I still love Mario, and each Mario game is special, whatever will decide Mario’s fate will be the next 3D Mario on switch 2, which will probably come out during Mario’s 40th anniversary. (If not, then definitely the year after).
I’m confused as to why you’d think it would? It’s not like winning GotY actually means anything in the grand scheme of things.
Because when the game was released, I’ve seen several people who were so captivated by it on Nintendolife, Reddit, X and similars, that they said openly that they “don’t need Mario and Nintendo anymore”…. and they also sold their Switches and games afterward. Astro Bot didn’t quite sell hugely in its first three months so it wasn’t really dangerous for Mario in the grand scheme of things, but its victory as GOTY changes everything: with it, it could even reach like 50 millions of sales, surpassing all of the Mario games from the past and making way more people ditching Mario and Nintendo in the process, and that is making me really nervous, that’s why I asked…
The people you spoke with are beyond fucking stupid and sales figures should not affect your taste in videogames. The Wii U is still one of my favorite consoles and it solda fucking horribly
I feel like you’re freaking out over nothing hun.
I imagine that most of the people you saw on social media saying such things probably weren’t even Nintendo fans in the first place, more than likely they were PlayStation fans, the kind who still think the console wars are a thing, trolling Nintendo fans and celebrating an (extremely rare) W for PlayStation.
If some of them were actually genuine and did sell their Switches for a PS5 and it’s, what, three worthwhile exclusives? I’d say let ’em get on with it, it’s their choice and shouldn’t affect you in any way.
Again, you’re really overblowing what the GotY award actually is. Astro Bot winning it isn’t going to “change everything”, it’s just a nice pat on the back for the devs who made it. That’s all these awards ever are.
It’ll probably get a minor boost in sales after it’s win, but 50 million and surpassing all of Mario’s previous games? lmao no.
Just ignore all the trolls and play whatever games you enjoy the most without getting hot under the collar about sales figures and the like; as Tentri said above, sales figures should not affect your taste in games.
Honestly, I wouldn’t underestimate the power of the GOTY award. The game is actually exploding on Amazon after its win, so my fear of outselling Mario in future might not be’ unfounded…
Despite what some people may say online, you’re allowed to buy/play Mario AND Astrobot.
If you thinking liking one means you have to abandon the other, you’re in a weird parasocial relationship with a company and need to rethink your priorities in life.
It’s not to me you should say it, but to those idiots…
it won’t change a thing for me, Mario is Mario and the people who said they were going to ditch their Nintendo consoles were just trolls.
That Astro Bot GotY speech was so wholesome and humble. Honoring Super Mario in your own speech is a whole new level of class. Well deserved award!
Real. Team Asobi deserved this W. that whole Swen speech about the industry was moving too, I enjoyed this game awards a lot actually
Nintendo, thanks for not selling out to the dorito pope.
At least Nintendo show something good in the award show.
Wait, Astro Bot was nominated for best action adventure? What? That game is just a platformer, what are they smoking?
Kojima’s farts.
If anyone sees this comment, let me remind you it doesn’t matter who wins and you can still play whatever you like.
congratulations to all the winner of the games, I can see some of my favorite games in the list. Nintendo are one of the best gaming consoles here in UK & I really liked playing games on it. Some deserved winners here. Big games get most of the attention at award shows, but honestly I’ve been having just as much fun lately with smaller pick-up-and-play games that don’t need a huge time investment. I’ve been messing around with Curve Rush 2 recently and it scratches that arcade reflex-game itch really well: https://curverush2.net/
