Gamescom 2025 has been and gone and it seems a lot of developers who attended the large gaming show have been unable to get Nintendo Switch 2 development kits. Digital Foundry said that it spoke to a large number of developers big and small and the main thing on their mind was the lack of development kits for the Nintendo Switch 2. It seems that they have been distributed randomly with some smaller developers able to get them and some AAA publishers who have yet to receive one. So much so that Digital Foundry speculates that it’s almost like Nintendo doesn’t want them to develop for the successor.
John: “Nintendo seems to be almost discouraging Switch 2 development to some degree, where I’ve spoken with plenty of developers where they were either told that their game.. they should just ship it on Switch 1 and rely on backwards compatibility. There’s a lot of developers that are unable to get Switch 2 dev kits. We talked to a lot of devs at Gamescom this year and so many of them said the same things. They want to ship on Switch 2. They would love to do Switch 2 versions. They can’t get the hardware. It’s really difficult right now.”
Oliver: “I don’t really understand the strategy because like you said, even now developers are struggling to get systems. And I know that some months ago when we’re, you know, hearing things through the grapevine and talking to people, there were some weird exclusions with some big developers struggling to get kits for games, from what we’ve heard. And there were some weird inclusions as well, like some indies were included which is nice to see but like there’s that campfire game you know the kind of camera campfire game and they’re getting kits and some big developers on the other hand who developed like AAA stuff aren’t necessarily in the pipeline there for kits.”

Digital Foundry, Digital Foundry, DIGITAL FOUNDRY….
Again, why people still pay attention to these hacks?
As for “a lot of developers”… who, exactly? Capcom has it, Square has it, Bandai has it, Sega has it, Atlus has it, Microsoft has it, Supergiant has it, Team Cherry has it, Koei has it, Warner has it, T2 has it, Activision has it… The names actually worth a damn have it. Just because “random indie developer who develops mostly crap/rip off” doesn’t have it, it doesn’t mean anything.
P.S.: CDP, has it, Ubisoft has it, Respawn has it, Gust has it, Gearbox has it, ARCSYS has it, Marvelous has it, NIS has it, Spike Chunsoft has it, FromSoftware has it, EA has it, Level 5 has it, IO has it, Epic Games has it… you get the idea.
Why are you so angry?
Yea what did DF do to you Smegma? I am interested in hearing specific names of companies but maybe those companies told them off the record. Direct your anger at Nintendo for not letting creators take advantage of the new hardware. Nintendo saying games aren’t worth putting on Switch 2? WTF does Nintendo know about quality 3rd party games? There is no less than 1,000 Hentai games on Switch 1, so I don’t want to hear about which games deserve to be on which Nintendo system.
First off: call people the right name. Don’ try to be funny.
Second: on that one subject you’re right. If they’re going to say “a lot of companies”, name them. It’s not like they are on a NDA contract since they didn’t receive the devkits yet. Or are they afraid of being blacklisted by Nintendo? Funny, because I thought Nintendo wasn’t a competitor in the industry.
Third: why direct the anger? I named a lot of companies who do have NS2 devkits and are developing games for it. I’m not bothered by “eroge developer who can’t put their H+ content on NS2” or “run of the mill indie developer”. I’m way more interested on the tried and tested names than in some random game. Or are you on the “indies are better than AAA” bandwagon?
Did digital foundry killed your dog dude? What with all the hate with these guys?
Because they’re proven hacks and people still treat them as gods. Some forget their origins: a group of “enthusiasts” that always licked Bethesda’s balls and badmouthed Nintendo during the WiiU era.
Nowadays:
-They “analyzed” the NS2 from trailers and demos.
-They insisted that the NS2 doesn’t use DLSS, despite Nintendo and NVIDIA stating otherwise.
I mean, how can it be more obvious they aren’t to be trusted?
I think it’s a you problem and you got mad because they criticized Nintendo, which is crazy cause digital foundry had nothing to say but praises for nintendo new games and system;
“They analyzed the ns2 from trailers and demos”
Oh wow crazy, what a crime.
It seems to be because they tell the truth about Switch and Switch 2 ports, which itself is not a bad thing. But when they mess with their fanboyism, they feel it personal. I mean, we all know there are crappy things like Pokemon S/V, which Digital Foundry destroyed in their reviews, but they also revered things like Street Fighters 6 port. Fanboys are ridiculous.
Such as telling the Switch 2 doesn’t use DLSS despite both Nintendo and Nvidia stating otherwise? Or maybe analyzing the Switch 2 from trailers because they didn’t have the console?
Or even better: singing praise about Skyrim, one of the most poorly optimized games of its generation?
Now we have DF fanboys to contend with. And here I thought fansub fanboys were the lowest point.
P.S.: Still waiting for the names of the developers who didn’t get devkits.
I don’t understand the Digital Foundry hate, sure some of their opinions aren’t always going to be agreeable and/or correct but who cares? I swear it’s like they are living in your head rent free. It’s like Hamas Piker always talking about Asmongold non-stop. We get it, you don’t like them, move on.
Agree.
They should have received it earlier.
it is funny because you all are arguing to SigmaZX but no one of you is asking the real point, who are those developers that are not getting the devkits??
so somebody says “a lot of developrs arent receiving devkits”, other one says “most of big devs has kits, who are those ones who hasnt?” and probes it… and you put your anger on the second one
this is not about liking or not liking DF, this is about giving complete and reliable information!
Most people coming in DF’s defense weren’t there when DF started existing. They were always a bunch of enthusiasts with no official relation to anyone (roughly the equivalent of your run-of-the-mill YT channel) that were massive simps for Bethesda and Skyrim (one of the most notoriously poorly developed games ever that is only still around due to having a VERY dedicated fanbase that took upon themselves to turn it into something worth playing) and laughed at Nintendo due to Bethesda badmouthing the WiiU.
Besides the devkit issue, they also tried to “analyze” (read: decry) the Switch 2 based on trailer videos and a demo that was clearly a product in development (CP2077). Now they talk about lots of devs aren’t receiving devkits” but can’t give even a single name out. Sure, a company might be afraid to speak out otherwise they’ll be blacklisted but still, don’t tease information just to be on the spotlight.
Considering all the big developers and a lot of the best small developers have kits… I’m confused at who is actually missing. No one seems to even be able to speculate a single company of significance that is missing.
That’s the most baffling thing. A quick Google search was enough to identify who has devkits at the current moment. All the big names are there. I even thought Konami wasn’t but then Momotaro. NRS might not have it but their parent studios do have it.
So who’s being left out? Sandfall? Clair Obscur is their debut title (and I would be surprised if it doesn’t get a port by the end of the NS2 lifecycle). Shift Up? It seems that they’re doing some progress, considering the rumors of Stellar Blade coming to it. Science? Don’t think BMW is being even considered. Mihoyo? They already skipped out the OG Switch. I can’t think of a single relevant one.
Fun police on the Nintendo attack again.
When did you feel you needed to move away from PC Hmmm?
When Nintendo started selling buckets of systems perhaps?
The only reason you cover Nintendo switch now is to crap on it whenever you can.
You’ll spin anything negatively.
If they don’t feel ready to open the floodgates to the river of dross, Which will definitely come when they do, then that’s their decision.
It’s not like we don’t have a perfect example of how bad it gets when they do allow everyone to have a kit is it??
Take your negativity and go talk about the 5000 series a bit more Hmmm?
How’s that frame generation going for you??
Leave Nintendo alone.
Stick to PC.
This garbage started with the XBOX Series X and the PS5. We are 5 years into the life cycle of the PS5 and they are still putting out games that run on the PS4. That should have been squashed about 3 years ago and just solely make games to run on the PS5 only. But, instead, we get a full blown PS4 version and then have to pay an upgrade fee to get a PS5 version that doe snot look that much better or different. In the end, you are getting a PS4 game with backwards compatibility to run on a PS5. So, it is actually deceptive marketing and development to the consumer. Now, Nintendo is doing it with Switch 2 games. Normally, Nintendo drops the previous system when a new one releases. OG Switch games are in full swing through next year right now.
