Borderlands 4 delayed for Nintendo Switch 2

Following reports of performance issues on other platforms, Gearbox has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 has been delayed to “deliver the best possible experience” to players. Digital pre-orders from the Nintendo eShop will be cancelled and refunds will be issued, but Gearbox has assured that they are committed to polishing up the Switch 2 port for an eventual release and cancellations are due to Nintendo’s policy. Whether or not the studio will actually be able to keep their promise is another story, but you can check out their full statement regarding the unfortunate delay below.

Greetings, Vault Hunters – We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans.

In accordance with Nintendo’s policy, all digital pre-orders to date will be cancelled. Customers can initiate that process themselves now, or it will happen automatically starting on Friday, Sept. 26. For questions about the Nintendo eShop, contact https://bit.ly/4niZo7h. For physical pre-orders, please reach out to the corresponding retailer.

We greatly appreciate the feedback, support and patience of our fans and community. It’s truly what keeps us going.

  1. “Best possible performance” maybe they can update the game and make legendary loot drops not so rare. Haven’t had a single legendary loot drop on hard difficulty and im currently level 24 (Playstation) performance seems fine besides legendary loot drops being impossible, i’ve been using the same Sub machine gun for a few levels because it seems better then weapons from my current level.

  2. What sucks about Third Party games on Nintendo hardware is that it’s usually on PS or Xbox first, giving people enough time to have bought the game, play it, enjoy it, finish it, and trade it in for something else. By the time the Nintendo version is ready, the next game in the series is halfway through development. Over and over again.
