Update: (20 October) it’s gone down to 79 with 61 reviews.
The latest Pokemon games Pokemon Legends Z-A reviews have started surfacing and it seems that it is a solid Pokemon adventure. Scores widely differ from publications with some proclaiming its the best Pokemon games in years, to others which slam the game as outdated. The game currently has a Metascore of 81 and this could change. Here’s a selection of Pokemon Legends Z-A reviews:
Unlike the most recent Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a game that really holds your attention. The spiritual successor to Legends Arceus, it’s learned from the mistakes of the distant past and beautifully shows what city life is like in the Pokémon universe. I can see myself playing this for another hundred hours as I finish my Pokédex, shiny hunt and generally have a great time. This is easily the best Pokémon game on the market.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a follow-up to Arceus that feels both similar and different due to its focus on living alongside Pokemon in a modern city. The two themes are Mega Evolution and embracing life alongside Pokemon, and Game Freak and Nintendo are constantly showing and telling how that works. Admittedly, I miss the more varied biomes and locations from Arceus. But I do appreciate the story, the ambiance, the attention paid to characters, and how much it feels like a real city. After over 35 hours with it, I’m quite pleased.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A offers a true slice-of-life Pokemon experience thanks to its anime-style real-time combat system and wholesome worldbuilding elements. While its single-city setting can sometimes feel a bit samey, Lumiose is densely packed with things to do and discover. This is a world worth getting lost in.
It’s still as embarrassingly low-tech as ever but this is easily the best of the 3D games, with a surprising amount of ambition and invention, not to mention real-time combat that actually works.
Lumiose City could do with work, but Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a much more tightly focused – and delightfully goofy – return to better form. At least by modern Pokémon’s standards.

This is really positive news, it seems like this game could be a worthy successor to Legends Arceus!
Is the whole game going to be an unskippable tutorial like the last 10 pokemon games?
I guessed 79. So close.
I don’t see the point in complaining about stuff, just enjoy what you enjoy. I’m gonna enjoy this game no matter what anyone tells me.
or yknow caring about quality of stuff
Strange how the two perfect scores also included a criticism.
Because not everyone sees review scores as a school grade. Reserving 10/10 for “perfect” games is pointless because the concept of a perfect game is silly to begin with.
So we agree that numerical scores are meaningless.
Numerical scores are meaningless on their own but in aggregation they are quite useful. I can tell at a glance using a combination of the Metascore and my own personal taste in games whether a game is likely to be worth my time. The Metascore adjusts for publications that like to give out 10s like candy or ones that will literally never give them, so there really is no need to get upset by individual scoring systems that you don’t like
Bro is seething that people like the silly monster catching game lmao
It could have been any game with a review like that and my comment would have remained the same. I don’t know how you got “seething” from that. Disconnected from reality, I guess. Or really defensive of Pokemon. Probably both.
Suuuuure it would’ve, lmaooo 🤣
Pokemon sure does live rent free in your head huh?
Nope. Not since I was a kid. I kinda write off the Pokemon games nowadays. Except Arceus Legends. It actually did something new and I enjoyed playing it. I don’t think this game is going to do it for me though. It’s removed the better parts of the first game and being in one city map the entire game sounds really boring.
Bro I’ve seen you on this site for years, you’re fooling no one 😂
You barely comment on anything other than Pokemon related articles, and always to say the exact same shit over and over again, getting into the same arguements with people again and again. You’ve been doing this for literal years.
Pokemon clearly inspires so much enmity in you that you can’t help yourself 🤣You are seething.
I feel like that confrims you’re a Pokemon fan who only pays attention to Pokemon articles and comments. I’ve commented and criticized a lot of stuff on here.
But it seems like my comments about Pokemon really hurt and stuck with you so I’m sorry for that.
A perfect score means the game is a masterpiece, not a perfect game. A masterpiece can always be improved upon, but you can’t improve upon perfection.
At least that’s what the guys at IGN would always say.
I think this game would be worth buying for my raining day fund.
