US: Black Friday 2025 console market share PS5 47%, Switch 2 24%, NEX Playground 14%

Circana, which tracks video game console and software sales throughout the United States, has revealed the best-selling video game platforms during Black Friday 2025. Similar to the UK data posted earlier, it was Sony who sold the most amount of consoles with the PlayStation 5 taking 47% of the marketshare, the Nintendo Switch 2 came in second with 24%, and third was the NEX Playground device which had 14%.

  1. This is weird—I’ve seen dozens of other tracking groups claiming Switch 2 was superior in sales this Black Friday in the USA. We’ll have to see once Nintendo’s sales come out in early-February, but that’s not a great sign.

    1. I read somewhere that Circana isn’t a good source for sales data. Circana did say Borderlands 4 sold well, but in reality, it did not.

  2. I looked up a NEX Playground, its $250, close to $300 after Tax and plays android games, why would you buy that?!?

  3. Interesting results! Not too surprising to see PS5 leading given all the bundles and discounts this year, but Switch 2 holding a solid 24% during Black Friday is impressive—especially for a system still early in its lifecycle. The NEX Playground getting 14% is also higher than I expected, so it’s clearly finding an audience.
Looking forward to seeing how the holiday season shapes up overall.

    1. Jaimie, your comment is so kind and polite, it restores a bit of my faith in humanity and is very much appreciated.
      Keep it up!

    1. Because hardly anyone wants one not that the console is bad, maybe the price hike of gamepass put them off. Either way sucks for Xbox owners which I’ve said a few times.

  4. I saw someone on Reddit unironically asking if these numbers mean that the Switch 2 is dead. They also asked if they were overreacting. Like, yes you are. Chill out.
