One of the things that many of you have been asking for is a YouTube app for the Nintendo Switch 2. We’ve heard time and time again that it’s being worked on by the official YouTube X account, but it has never materialised. Now a rumour has appeared via a YouTube Discord mod who says Google has been working on a YouTube app for the Nintendo Switch 2 and it’s set to release this month.

No gamers are asking for this, casuals are. The same people who can already access YouTube on multiple devices just as quickly if not quicker than a Switch 2 app. We have to get away from pretending gamers want bloat and apps; we just want games. Anyone who disagrees isn’t a gamer and isn’t interested in helping the community be better.
Dear Robyn, as A Gamer of 35 Years old, i find pretty useful to have this app on the Switch to use it on monitors that aren’t smart / with apps, that’s precisely one of the things i enjoyed the most of my wii u, in which i could lend somebody the TV and not having to open my PC whatsoever for watching series and stuff. the more options you have, the better.
Also, YES, you’re right. we need Games. But infesr that if nothing have been shown yet, is hardly going to be lauched this year.

YouTube is owned by Google have you seen the damage Genie has caused to the industry. Not only that they want YouTube to be a AI platform with AI content its already happening look at shorts this is not something that should be supported and neither should Google other browsers and search engines exist. All the YouTubers complaining are a part of the problem too YongYea, penguinz0, etc all talk for clicks and money claiming they care but still use what they claim to hate for profit for now just arrogant they don’t get replaced.

I have a 50 something inch TLC 4k QLED Smart Tv, and sometimes it struggles with Youtube. Like it loads the image late sometimes and i have to return the feed…. to fix that, i have to disconnect the tv for like 30 seconds and that does it. But its annoying when it does….
Buy a Roku or use your phone can’t you cast?
Can you not cast with a phone or other device? Also Fire Stick, Roku, Android TV, Apple TV, like you have better options than a Switch 2.

Comments are more controversial than I would have imagined.
Personally, I’m often playing my Switch 2 while listening to youtube videos so I don’t really have a use for the apps. I may have used it once total in the lifetime of my Switch.
But it’s also silly to act like this app being developed and released somehow stole resources that could have been used to make a game. It’s a free app you can download or not download so… I’m still not quite sure why anyone would be upset with this.
This is possibly one of the most toxic comments sections I’ve seen in a minute. This launching on Switch 2 does not affect you or your ability to play your games, you have the option to not download it. The elitism of “real gamers don’t stream on their consoles” is ridiculous when we’ve had media playback on consoles since the Sega CD. You’re not a cut above the rest for it, you’re not special, and frankly, nobody cares if you only use your consoles to play video games. So congrats to the 40 year old, basement dwelling crybabies crying over a completely optional video streaming app for making this site an absolute slog to look at sometimes.

Personally I don’t really see the point in this. It’s real easy to set up a second monitor and watch ad-free YouTube with an ad blocker, but people are different.
YT has some good trashy movies for free. I would bring my OLED into bed and watch an old action movie as I go to sleep. Also my favorite podcast does watch-along episodes to trashy movies, so it is nice to play podcast on phone while watching the movie on switch.
I really don’t think this is a problem like if you know you’re not gonna use the app then don’t download it 🤷♂️

The only thing i want on my Switch 2 is Switch 2 games. i have three other Switch consoles (original, OLED, and lite) i dont even want original Switch games on Switch 2.

youtube is for literally everything else. and more than half the time, even then, its useless.
I think they should limit us to having only 3 Switch 2 games on the system, and once when you get 3 games that is it. You have to get a new Switch 2 if you want to play more games.
