Japan: Retailers slash price of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Japanese video game retailers have started the process of slashing the price of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, similar to what has happened here in the UK a month or so ago. The long-awaited game presumably isn’t selling as well as Nintendo had hoped, hence the reduction in price. Reviews for the game were mixed with many finding the open world areas relatively empty. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has a critic score of 78 and a user score of 7.8.

  1. Confirms game was a flop. Retro needs to be closed already it’s now 343 basically now. Honestly Microsoft should follow with Halo Studios shut that dump down too.

  2. Mega Man too has an arm cannon.

I wish Metroid Prime 4 did better, even if it was a perfect game (it wasn’t), it still wouldn’t have done great probably. The most common complaint I see is the NPCs, I actually liked them a lot, but Nintendo fans constantly want Samus to be completely alone. You need characters and a universe to build a great story out of, Metroid is one of those rare times where Nintendo actually tries to write a story for. I beat Prime 4 three times and my main complaint was the desert and green crystals. The only reason I played it three times was to try to get better end times. I think the crystals probably take up 50% if not more if the game. I really hated it every time. I don’t mind Samus having a vehicle, it was the Green Crystal Torture Filler that I hated.

    1. I agree. I enjoyed the game for the most part (even though the NPCs were cringe, and Miles constantly telling you “hey to this spot on the map”), but the crystal collection in the last quarter was so unbelievably lame, that I almost considered not finishing the game. Also Psylux or whatever his name is was incredibly underbaked. Felt like they forced him in to have some kind of main villain even though he’s barely present

      1. Retro needs to go back to making new DKC games.

Then make something new or tackle another IP.

The MP series might be BEYOND permanently damaged now. Pun intended.

  3. Metroid Prime 4 is horrendous crap and I turned it off and never returned when the effeminate freak showed up, will be selling soon

  4. Not only does Metroid not sell well compared to other franchises, but the best-selling one (Dread) only sold 3 million units… and there were far more Switch consoles in circulation than there were Switch 2 consoles at the launch of Prime 4, so calling it a “flop” is relative.

And besides, price drops in Japan are frequent; it’s to clear out stock before new shipments arrive.

  5. They implied this was the beginning of a new trilogy so I hope they let one studio develop the next game from the start. It’s really not surprising 4 came out kind of mediocre with the development hell it went through. I hope THAT is the lesson Nintendo takes from this: “development hell BAD” and not “Metroid Prime BAD”.
