Hot on the heels of the new Japanese trailer released this morning is the reveal of a new Steel/Ghost type Pokémon for X and Y. This new Pokémon has reportedly been revealed as part of the Japan Expo taking place in Paris, and has the appearance of a sword.
Named Monorpale in French and Hitotsuki in Japan, the Pokémon has an eerie look with its one-eyed glare, and with its Steel/Ghost typing – if true – will grant it as the first Pokémon with that specific type. Rumour has it that when Monorpale enters into battle it will unsheath itself to show its true power. With Masuda teasing a big fan announcement, could Monorpale be part of this? I love Ghost type, but they are damn week in defense/sp. defense, maybe this one will change some rules in battle.

Man, they come up with some of the most ridiculous looking Pokémon. Still not as bad as Nosepass though. My favorite Pokémon are the ones that look like real animals. Not the ones that don’t even look like they could be something that’s alive.

Why does it matter if they are based on animals or not? That isn’t even how it was way back in first gen. We had Voltorb, Electrode, Megneton, Magnemite, the fabulous and sexy Jynx was based on a nordic princess and Mr. Mime was based on a… mime. 💋
No Jynx wasn’t. Was based on a trend in Japan were Japanese girls would tan their skin and wear bright makeup. Plus she’s also based on an old Japanese Youkai that took the form of a woman with long blonde hair on snowy mountains. Jynx has nothing to do with Nordic anything.
Both theories could be correct. Jynx’s cloths are based on opera clothings. and one of the most famous ones was a viking tale. the main lead wore cloths similar to jynx’s. giving more evidence to mamajynx’s norse theory. Personally though I like the ganguro theory, literally means blackface for those who don’t know Japanese. It’s based off of like most people have guessed. Racism. The Japanese had limited knowledge of black people so they had to go by media. and in most media at the time it was very racist and stereotypical. One of the most common things was for white actors to cover their face in grease paint but leaving some white around the mouth and eyes to over emphasis them. So the Japanese decided to do what anonymous said and tanned heavily, dyed their hair blond and put glitter around their eyes. Unlike America it was in good intention and was meant to show adoration then hate.
