Capcom Hit By Layoffs, Svensson Leaves

capcomlogo

It has emerged today that Capcom has undertaken a staff reorganization today which has resulted in the loss of its senior vice president Christian Svensson. Svensson was widely known on the Capcom Unity forums as a point of contact for fans and also addressed the hundreds of questions fired at him. Svensson posted the news on his Facebook page today, saying that he had volunteered to go. Here’s what he had to say.

“Sadly, I’m not the only one affected by the reorganization today. Over the next few days, I’ll be gathering resumes from as many as I can and will be sending them out to my contacts around the industry to see if there’s a ‘love connection’ to be made.”

“I’ve had the opportunity to interface with the best fans any company could ever hope to have. I know that I wasn’t always able to deliver what they wanted, but I promise that I did my best to champion their needs and wants. So thank you to the fans who made my job rewarding, challenging, and, if nothing else, interesting.”

“While I wish the company the best of luck, Capcom is going in a different direction and the need for people at my level, relative to other areas, is lacking. Those who know me well, know that I’ve been ready to go for quite some time. We tried some things that worked. We tried others that didn’t. We fought fights that were worth fighting and even won a few. I’m proud of what we accomplished.”

    1. Uhh hello! sony doesnt win. nintendo win becuase they dont lay off because they r best and sony smells like a stupid sak of shit and capcum suks becuas they fire ppl and ruin familie incums and now japen will have starvin children who r kids of game devs because they don love them.

        1. Because you like the way he trolls or because you know you can’t troll him???

          Guess this time sony lost…

    1. I hate to tell you but all consoles have DRM. You cannot copy your digital games from PS3 to your friend PS3.

If this is not what you mean and only talking about hard physical copy then Wii U don’t have DRM either. Also Xbox One no longer got DRM requirement anymore. Some PC games still don’t support DRM even digital copies. Check Humble Bundle website for a start.

    1. That means Retro could do a new Megaman game then :D…..ok wishful thinking.

Sucky news, cause he seemed like one of the real positives going on a Capcom.

  1. Losing jobs is always a bad news but is this a bad or good new on Capcom part? I starting to think Capcom missing the point entirely.

  2. Pretty soon Capcom is gonna lose all their big names and be a company no one cares about if they don’t change things.

  3. holy smokes, nvidia is pushing a lot of profile updates today.
geforce experience has recieved about 25 profile updates.
    my 3d just got better
    lol
    sony wins

  4. If he was the voice of reasoning and listened to the fans questions and we knew how bad how capcom is, now imagine them even WORSE since he’s gone. This means Capcom is probably just run by money-hungry employees now.

  5. He was a good vice president, he did talk to a lot of users, he communicate with all the fans, something not everyone does; it’s hard to see him out of the company. Capcom sucks at this decision.
Who’s the President? CEO? What is he doing? Only receiving checks?

    1. He’s a MS shill and a liar. The dude would spin so hard when they were caught locking you out of content already on the disc and pretending it was DOWNLOADABLE content. He sucked at it too.

      1. C’mon… that old man??? I never saw that guy….EVER, he must be sitting there receiving checks. Iwata and Yoshida, are different CEO’s, they put their faces and interact with fans in many ways; that’s what a CEO must do, gain support, hear fans..
Argh. =/ There must be someone who could do something to revitalize Capcom again…
I wish they could be like in the Snes era… :'( I missed those times.

  6. Why can’t the CEO just give himself a pay cut to prevent layoffs and their developers won’t be stressed out and can make good games? After all if the CEO’ annual salary was reduced from, $500,000 to $300,000 what would be different in what luxuries he is willing to buy?

    1. How do you know he already hasn’t? Hate to break it to you but this has been a long time coming. Capcom has been a horribly run company since the PS2 days and they doubled down on the stupid this last generation with all their bullshit DLC policies and holding back content from games. Not to mention they’ve all but killed MegaMan and ruined Resident Evil. The only franchise that still holds any quality is Street Fighter.

      1. CEOs don’t give themselves paycuts. Get real here. The guys at the top have leverage to threaten to leave if they get a cut in pay. It’s much easier to give the little guys extra work or cut them because those little guys are a dime a dozen. They’re easier to replace than the ones on top.

        1. Oh shut the fuck up with your class warfare bullshit. You have no idea what’s going on inside the company.

          1. Well excuse me! Developers easy to replace? Ignoring rare Ware since the original staff left. Also ignoring that Pikmin 3 was rated a high including most Mario’s and Zelda titles.

          2. Neither does Nintendo haters know what’s going on with inside that company neither! So its OK for them to jugde Nintendo not knowing everything but not OK for me to compare Iwata who gave himself a pay cut to whoever Cap com’s CEO is huh?

    2. They can never become his supremeness Lord Iwata…

If the Capconian Leader truly cared, he would have reduced is own salary along with the rest of his Command…

  7. Nintendo should just asborb them. They could do worlds better with Capcom’s franchises than Capcom. Keep the Street Fighter people on of course since its their last remaining great franchise.

    1. That will be awesome, BUT.., there’s a problem there. Street Fighter is operating in other platforms, so.. Nintendo can’t own Crapcom even if they wanted it. Of course for Nintendo fans this could be nice, but there are tons of people who play Street Fighter games on other consoles..
I prefer Nintendo make an agreement with Capcom after they buy Crapcom xD so they can still develop for other consoles, but at least Nintendo will have the priority.
      It’s a though subject.., hmm.

  8. Idiotic company. That’s it. They seem to think they can solve their troubles by layoffs, overpriced collectable merch., and DLC.

You need to produce quality products — not gimmicks.

    1. Let me get this right. Why can’t Cap com wait until PS4 arrives? After all according to Sonydrones, it will be the best console. So if every 3rd party is going to PS4, why are EA and Cap com financially challenged?

        1. Biggest guestion is why Nintendo forum has so much trolling Sony fanboys? Is there not enought great games to play for Playstation or you guys just don’t have real life outside of the internet?

          1. There’s trolling on this site period. You Nintards are just as bad. Both companies make great games and great systems but you dipshits on both sides would rather argue who’s tiny dick is slightly bigger.

  9. For what it’s worth, He was one of the better people at the Unity forums and his words ring true as the company have made alot of terrible business decisions in the past years. Hopefully he’ll move onto a better company and make a difference there.

  10. Why is so many people saying “Sony Wins” when this post has nothing to do with Sony (or even Nintendo or Microsoft for that matter)? It’s about Capcom laying off employees. Where did Sony even come into the picture?

    1. Look again. It is just the same person over and over. But trolling have been in this site since day one.

  11. Nintendo keep an eye on capcom, this would be a purchase of a life time. Imagine Monster hunter and the team behind it being supported by Monolith soft’e geniuses. Megaman made by RETRO! ” runs to say prayers of thanks giving.” Also let the capcom workers find employment at other software companies.

  12. I wish Capcom would re-establish their priorities and do a 180 like Square Enix. We would a good, new Megaman game, the return of Megaman Legends 3 and the other cancelled games, and some new sequels to their franchises like a true Devil May Cry 5 and Darkstalkers 4.

  13. THEY NEED NEW PEOPLE IN CAPCOM THEY CANT MAKE GOOD GAME LETS LOOK AT SOME OF THEM WARE IS THE NEW MEGAMAN GAME FOR THE WII U?
LOST PLANET AS SOME GOOD IDEAS IN THE GAME BUT HAD LOTS OF BUGS
MARVEL VS CAPCOM WAS A HALF ASS GAME
NOW THESE GAMES SHOULD COME TO THE WII U NEW MEGAMAN,BREATH OF FIRE,LOST PLANET EX TROOPERS FOR THE WII U PLEASE AND MONSTER HUNTER 4 FOR THE WII U OK THEN YOU MIGHT SEE SOME MONEY BACK YOU NO

    1. On another topic Svensson was a pretty cool guy, too bad he got laid off. I hope he finds a good place to work for.

    1. #controlversalopinionno.987
Yeah, it took me a long time before I really cared about capcom. Their games actually have kind of a small audience. I could ask a ton of my friends what Capcom is and nobody would know.

  14. Always appreciated the close connection Svensson attempted to keep with the Capcom fanbase. Very few other big publishers have that kind of intimacy. Will be missed, hope he gets a good job somewhere else.

  15. We are shocked and astounded – did not see this coming…big shock.
One hopes Sven finds a new position elsewhere with no issues, as he was one of the more talkative and informative individuals answering questions on Capcom-unity!
