Rosalina And Luma Confirmed For Super Smash Bros
Today’s Nintendo Direct has revealed another playable character for the Super Smash Bros. roster. This time, we’re welcoming Rosalina and Luma as they appear together for the first time in Super Smash Bros. She’s certainly going to be having a busy year, that’s for sure! Make sure you check out the trailer above to see the glorious Rosalina in action. Super Smash Bros will release in 2014 for both Wii U and 3DS.
Include Paper Mario as a playable character and I’m all good for the roster.

He doesn’t need to be a clone. Paper Mario should be no problem to have a different moveset for since he uses hammers, boots, and his partners to attack with. The people in this video give a good idea of how Paper Mario could play (12:58 – 17:29).
Well personally I don’t like having Toon Link (because two Links is bogus) so why would I want Paper Mario? I don’t care about whether his moveset is the most innovative to the franchise, the fact that he is “Mario” bugs me.
It would be like adding Yarn Kirby, it feels “wrong.”
It would be cool if you could alter Mario’s color to make him 2D and appear like Paper Mario. Like Wario’s Biker outfit and overalls. Toon Link is bogus though, damn clone is no different with attacks besides aerial moves. Just make Link’s alternate color a cartoony appearance and I would be happy with that being Toon Link. Not a seperate slot on the roster for a waster character like Mario and Dr. Mario… just make them change outfits! Is it that hard Sakurai?!

Well the Mario franchise technically didn’t get a new character for Brawl, since they don’t count Wario because he has his own universe. Also, I agree Metroid should have more representatives, but there aren’t a whole lot to choose from.

Bowser’s size varies in every game, just like Ridley. From being Samus’ size in Melee to being fifteen times bigger than her in Brawl. Hell! Look at Honey Queen from Mario Galaxy to Mario Kart 7!
They can’t add Dark Samus, because she/it would be too similar to Samus. Perhaps some moves would be different, but even the “look” of Dark Samus is…literally…a “Black” Samus.
PLUS! Dark Samus is limited to being only important in Prime…which is over, whereas Ridley is relevant to the Metroid franchise as a whole.
Ridley is a better choice and would be more unique and is more coveted than Dark Samus anyway.

I agree with the Metroid part, but people always seem to forget how the Mario series MADE Nintendo, and seem to always focus on different franchises.
The Donkey Kong game was the start to Nintendo, not the Mario series. Even if it made Nintendo, it’s not the only series to Nintendo. There’s plenty to Nintendo that all should be focused on, not just Mario. That’s why I love Smash Bros., all these Nintendo characters together with their colorful ray of appearances and personalities.

They are dumb. Of course they can put characters like this in. Some people just don’t get it. A character has to “feel” right. Rosalina feels right, I can’t explain it, but I know when a character feels right and Sakurai knows when a character feels right.

Of course they can scale Ridley down. They could make Ridley fit in easy. The only ones who don’t want Ridley are those who want Dark Samus and think Ridley will ruin her/it’s chance of inclusion or those who think Ridley will ruin the chance of some OTHER character they want added.
Ridley is really the only other Metroid character to add in my eyes.

No, you cant scale down Ridley. In EVERY game he is always MUCH bigger then Samus. Unlike Bowser who changes a bit in each game. Ridley is meant to be a big dragon like creature, not a tiny bat.
Dude! Watch the opening cutscene of Melee and his trophy in that game to see that he is her size! Bowser is made slightly bigger to fit in with other characters, especially when he’s playable. When he’s the main bad guy, is when he gets HUGE! Add Ridley and Dark Samus for all I care! I may have not gotten a chance to play a Metroid game but atleast I support them! Sakurai added his two little characters, Meta Knight and King Dedede in Brawl, they can add the Metroid two in this but no, towing it all down for Toon clones and 3DS limitations! Thanks Sakurai…

She watches over and protects the universe, traveling on a route that takes them 100 years to complete each circuit, and we have no idea how long she’s been doing this. Also, she’s a seemingly immortal being who commands a spaceship and is a mother figure for all the Lumas.

I enjoyed the Mario Galaxy story and her telling the story of the everything to the Lumas, it was actually really cool, but still she does not deserve a spot in Smash when so many classic characters from the Nintendo universe have yet to have a turn.

Looking back her gameplay does look interesting and she looks fun to use, I just don’t get why her. Not going to complain too much, it adds to variety and there’ll be other characters, just a little bamboozled.

If she’s the last Mario character in the roster, I’m fine with it. The series seriously has enough characters as it is and I’m glad that they picked one of the genuinely interesting Mario character.

Unlike like Mii and Reggie, she’s an actual nintendo character lol. Plus she looks like a good and unique character to play as. From what we’ve seen it looks like she can combo people pretty well, so that’s cool.

I think Rosalina got too much attention lately, I’m cool with her being playable but Waluigi and Daisy deserved more to be in the game; what makes me bit upset is the limitations with the roster and at the same time it is filled with unimportant/non-memorable characters.
Rosalina is one of the most talked about parts of Galaxy. Everyone wanted Nintendo to expand on Rosalina…. now they have. She is in Mario Karts, 3D World and SMASH!
Not only this, but her moveset is completely original and dangerous looking too.
I’m excited and others should be too. This is the first real “new” Nintendo character to get “real” attention. The only other character I can think of like Rosalina would be Bowser Jr. way back when Sunshine was released. I wouldn’t be surprised if B Jr. was added to Smash4 as well.
Daisy would just be a cloned Peach. What moves does she have different from Toadstool? Rosalina don’t feel like a cloned princess. I want less clones and more orignal moves.
Well, if I were Sakurai, I would add Daisy, but give her a more physical moveset instead of “magically powers” and Peach’s pots and pans. Daisy could honestly have elements of a ninja, access to her motorbike, wrestling moves and such, because she is a tom-boy who knows how to fight.
I think it would be hilarious to see Daisy in her dress doing a drop kick on Mario’s face :P Alternative outfits would obviously include her motorcycle outfit from Mario Kart and perhaps, instead of her dress she could wear that as her default as well.
I think Daisy has a lot of potential as a character, but she is just… a filler character for Mario games that need partners, like Waluigi.
Actually when I think about the best stuff to consider for Daisy is her ice/crystal abilities in Strikers Charged. She formed orange crystals around her in defense and offense while on the field, and the crystal formed and looked like turquoise ice over her fist, like a frozen gauntlet to pound the ball ferociously at the goal.
Waluigi and Daisy? LAWLLAWL! Talk about Non-important/non-memorable characters.

WTF man, Smash 4 is gonna be such a different beast. I am liking how the characters (especially the new ones) have such an interesting moveset.
Glad shes in, she brings in a new fighting style and adds to the female roster.
Add in Krystal from Star Fox and possibly Palutena and we’ve got the females covered this time around!!

Well movsets can be an issue cause Captain Falcon and Fox are all improvised. There isn’t much special about them since they are up-close attackers

The F-Zero cast would be very different and there honestly isn't much to go with them since there isn't a ton of info for them over the years
I consider Wolf a clone. I consider Luigi a clone. Characters should NOT have moves from other characters. ONE move or two is fine (Deedeedee and Kirby), but when you have the same special, the same type of recovery, the same final smash, a similar character model all combined, I consider the character a clone.
Wolf uses the same moves, just with a different “twist.” That is unacceptable. Make Wolf a Fox skin and add in Krystal who would have a COMPLETELY new moveset.
How would you know if the F-Zero cast would have different movesets? They made one up for Captain Falcon and same for Fox yet they made all the Star Fox characters similar (they were like Cpt. Falcon, they had to be “given” fighting moves) so the same would probably happen to the F-Zero cast.
Wolf uses the same specials and that’s it, however his normal are totally different moves.
You can see how hard it is to make a moveset for a character if they haven’t have so many clones. Its hard to differentiate and make something unique when you have nothing to go with

I mean, I doubt you play smash competitively so why would it matter to you if he has a unique moveset? We don’t know anything about Falco so there isn’t much to go bye and Fox and Falco are essentially the same person on the same team with the same skills.

But Sakurai has been adding things just released this year and last year. There is a New Leaf stage on 3DS, Pit’s moveset has been updated to include elements from Uprising. We have a Sonic Lost World stage on Wii U… probably more that I just haven’t thought of yet…
Keep in mind that Sonic Lost World also came out around the same time (I think AFTER) the Wonderful 101 came out.
Yup W101 came out first. If he can do a last minute add at least Wonder Red and blue. But I doubt it. Probably have them as a trophy or something. Also W101 morphs could be their final smash. It would be great. But that’s a lot of work at the last minute. Wonder Blue is my favorite. Let’s see what they unveiled in the next few months.

Although the Pikmin franchises are really cloned characters, Louie should be on there or at least another character like Alph or Britney. Krystal should be on Starfox with her rod. She can also use it as a 3rd jump to reach the platform after being knocked off. She can shoot with it, hit with it too.
All the Pikmin characters can be character swaps like male Wii Fit Trainer is to female Wii Fit Trainer.

We’ve seen that stage before. It is the same boxing ring stage with the Smash Bros logo in the center.
Some have speculated that the stage DOES in fact belong to Little Mac and they have just masked his logo with the Smash Bros logo until they are ready to announce him.

Awesome! Also, now on the site there are 8 more blank spots since Rosalina opened up a new row for us. We can look forward to 8 more characters. Since Ness, Jigglypuff, and Zelda are basically shooins, we can start the guessing for the final 5. (Unless there are even more)
I am very pleased with adding Rosalina to the roster and her control scheme seems pretty unique which will make it fun to play as her.
(Finally, I agree with the theories that Little Mac will be playable. There have definitely been enough hints)

By the way people. RIDLEY is not too fucking huge to put into a smash bros game. They are able to do whatever the fuck they want with the game. Do you guys realize that OLIMAR is supposed to only be an inch tall, and isn’t he like 3 feet tall in smash bros? I Don’t fucking know how nobody can understand that this can be done if they really wanted to. I’m not trying to be rude but I’m tired of people saying he is too big. They have done drastic resizing in the past guys.

This is cool, yet a little surprising. Since Rosalina didn’t really have much role in the Galaxy games, other than telling stories. But still better than the stupid Wii Fit trainer.
It is great, because I always wanted a character to represent the (legendary) Galaxy games, but Sakurai wouldn’t change Mario’s moveset… so he added Rosalina :)
If you think about it, a lot of her moves could have been Mario’s moves in Smash Bros if he were based on Galaxy Mario.
Rosalina is great and all, but I’m saddened by the fact that Junior and Paper Mario had lost their chance to be playable. Daisy and Waluigi’s got a shot in Hell since both characters are the “Scrappy Doos” of the Mario franchise.
You don’t think Rosalina is a better character than all the other ones you mentioned? Sakurai adds characters based on originality and popularity. I think Rosalina brings more originality than any of the characters you mentioned. Paper Mario would be a Paper version of Mario… oh wait, he has a hammer and a different recovery -_- yawn. Don’t know who Junior is (unless you mean DK Junior who would be EXACTLY like DK), Waluigi would be similar to Wario in terms of quirkiness. Daisy is the only one that could be a real hit, but she is stuck in the same situation as Waluigi as she isn’t prominent enough.
Rosalina really works well in Smash Bros. She uses Luma in a sort of tag team like the ice climbers, but Luma is disposable unlike Nana to the ice climbers( if she dies, Popo is pretty much screwed). It’s not enough to add a character and just throw on some moves that no one else has, that still isn’t original enough. They have to “feel” original too.
After Rosalina that’s enough characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. Metriod,and DK, Pokemon can expand. Also the Sonic franchise bashas plenty like Knuckles, Shadow, Tails and Egg man. I think Kirby and Zelda tittles are as far as it can go. Pikmin can increase but is limited in originality same as Starfox unless Krystal is added.
I would like Luigi mansion features added on or something just to differ him more from his brother. But then it may be a cloned Kirby move.
Yoshi needs to be there, than they can stop on the Mario universe.

I hope part of the Miiverse community that was asking for this is satisfied. Really, every single post of pic of the day from sakurai there was always some people asking for Rosalina in smash bros. This really tells that Sakurai was listening.
Anyway, since she’s in, I am afraid Zelda won’t appear in smash bros. I’m praying for Ness and Captain falcon.
Captain Falcon and Ness are shoe-ins, if the word of “keeping the classic cast” has anything to do with it.
Also, I’m sure Zelda will re-appear, but I’m fine with Rosalina. She’s my favourite “Princess”.

Interesting and pretty cool addition that should add some dynamic gameplay. But I’m still waiting for a Captain Falcon confirmation. It’s just not Super Smash Bros without Falcon Punch.

Hey now! I’m all for Yoshi and Charizard coming back! Super Mario World on the Yoshi part. But I may not be good with them but I still play them, hell I atleast play all of them online including alternate forms for their own matches, 39 matches at that.
Why the hell did they add Rosalina? She does not deserve to be in Smash. We have enough people from the Mario series (except for Yoshi). If Yoshi isn’t in the game because of her, that is messed up. Yoshi is one of the most unique characters. Rosalina isn’t even near classic status, I loved the Galaxy games, but they won’t be considered classics for at least another 5 years. This spot should have gone to a much more deserving Nintendo character. That’s all my opinion of course.
Highly doubtful that Yoshi gets cut. It’s not like they’ve revealed all of the veteran fighters yet.
And Rosalina has a huge following. She wasn’t at the top of my list but I look forward to seeing what she brings to the gameplay.

Krystal makes sense since she’s like Rosalina and Zelda. A lot of Rosalina’s moves were ones that people expected on Mario once he was updated while Zelda got spells Link used in Ocarina. Krystal would use her staff that Fox used but she makes more sense since it actually belongs to her and we’ve seen her atleast use it. While Zelda and Rosalina get their moves because it fits them better than the males who used them.
It’s a shame for more Mario characters but I have no problems with her and really excited to test her out and see if she’ll be easy to work with. The MAIN problem is that Sakurai had to milk his little Kirby in the spotlight once again! I’m glad that he’s not in her artwork on her Smash website page, glad to see it go to better use on characters like Fox and WiiFit but of course Mario’s there.
