Nintendo has launched a “recommended software” 3DS XL (LL) promotion in Japan for new handheld users. Starting April 26, new purchases of Nintendo 3DS LL’s will receive a download voucher for one game only, which can be redeemed from a software list of Nintendo’s choosing.
From April 26 until May 31, voucher owners can download either of these two popular 3DS titles: Animal Crossing: New Leaf or Yo-kai Watch. Nintendo of Japan will then offer two more games up for June and the subsequent months until September 30, when the promotion ends.
The promotion offers much more variety for newcomers than the current standard or limited edition bundles, but it could also be seen as more of a risk. However, it’s a great way to entice Japanese consumers back into handheld gaming following the mobile market’s dominance. Would you like to see this promotion integrated into the West? Let us know in the comments below.

interesting…
I must ask. That means that if I buy a Japanese xl now I can chose between those two games, but if I buy one XL later on, the game offering will be different? Or does it means that I get one game per month for free??
The voucher code is for one game only, as stated in the article. If you purchase a 3DS LL between April 26 and September 30, you can choose one game from two games, which Nintendo will vary each month. So if you opt for ACNL this month, you wouldn’t be able to get any of the other games offered in subsequent months. Hope that clears things up a bit. :)
Ambassador Silvershadow, will you get Smash Brothers for both 3DS and Wii U?…
I would like to beat an ambassador up aswell…
*wink*
I’ll probably be purchasing the Wii U version, though the 3DS version is a possibility, considering the lengthy wait. :)
Also, I’m a bit pants at competitive Smash Bros, so I don’t think I’ll be much of a challenge!
Hehe ok…
Join my side then and experience the lovely feeling of being superior…
*wink*
Gracias amigo.
Thanks for the info.
I was a bit confused.
No problem. :)
Will the first buyers of the 3ds xl ever get anything? No? Ok. T.T
The longer a product has been out, the better and cheaper offerings are given…
The downside is that if you want to experience games at the same time as most people, you buy things early…
I got MK7 free :s It was pre installed on my CLUB.
Yeah. You got a bigger screen and longer battery life for $50 less than I paid for the original with no games.
Did you not get the ambassador program games?
Why not do this for the Wii U instead? -_____-
ACNL…. great game!! Whoa… This is a great deal actually. Better do something like this with the WiiU
how many promotions are they doing, but ignoring the wii u. devs left the wii u. stop focusing on the 3ds.
