Liam Robertson from Unseen64 is reporting that Nintendo Software Technology is working on a game that everyone has been waiting for. That game is a free-to-play title that is based around the immensely popular amiibo figures. Don’t get too excited as this is just a rumour at present. Liam is also reporting that the team could be switching to mobile in the future. Here’s what he had to say.
We’ve been giving information on its next venture, a free-to-play title for Wii U and 3DS which will use amiibo to unlock content.
According to our source – who is familiar with NST and the project – the game is apparently finished and expected to launch at the start of 2016 in North America. It will be free to download for any player who owns a compatible amiibo, but we’ve been told that this is part of a special promotional campaign, which means it could become a paid-for release after a period of time. To confuse matters, Nintendo of Europe is apparently keen to release it as an entirely free download later in the year.
Yamashiro is, according to our source, exploring the possibility of turning NST into a totally mobile studio, although it is understood that no mobile games have actually entered production as of today – NCL has yet to give its blessing to the proposed shift.

Free to play? Like mobile games? Doesn’t sound exciting at all.
Instead of ingame purchases I’m guessing it would be Amiibo purchases, as you’ll have to have purchased the actual Amiibo to unlock the content.
If it is indeed true, I’m hoping its like Disney Infinity. Those games are fairly small and at times repetitive but there’s an odd satisfaction when you level up that character. Have it learn moves and you have yourself a decent RPG in the Nintendo universe.
That sounds better than what I was thinking.
I think is backward, is to give amiibo user something to play with, not force people to buy amiibo, to date, I have not seen the 1st person to say “yeah, I hate the figure but I bought the amiibo to unlock X or Y skin or AI partner”
Well yeah that’s what’s its ultimately going to be (if this rumor is true) but I was just talking on a broader aspect. As in, it would be f2P but instead of having in game purchases, you would need the amiibo. Which would essentially be the substitute for in game purchases.
it really wont be an in game purchase then, as in game purchase generate $$$ cause its something that people have to constantly buy, like extra turns, health, etc.
amiibos are 1 time transaction. and I already have like 20.
Well thats why I said it would be a substitute. Are you sure you arent thinking about Micro-Transactions? Because an ingame purchase could be anything, from a Micro-transaction to a downloadable character. As long as its purchased in game, its an in game purchase.
Well of course, but the game wouldnt necessarily be aimed only to the collectors of amiibo. It should also entice non amiibo owners to pick up the game and then an amiibo of there choice, so you or me wouldnt be their only audience they would be catering to.
By the way, this ill be the last reply ill be doing to this, we are only speculating on a rumor and most likely misleading some people reading this.
Is it as F2P as amiibo Festival was, as in, Nintendo telling people it will be F2P just to surprise everyone it’s actually not?
Also, you can hardly call it free to play if you need amiibo to play it. This is free to download, but still pay-2-play, if anything. Well, only if it turns out to be true, of course.
In before someone defends amiibo Festival.
BUT ITS A GREAT AMAZING GAME THAT WILL WIN ALL THE GOTYS OUT THIS YEAR!!!
XD
Yeah… and I’m Elvis Presley reincarnated! >.<
Amiibo should have *launched* with a base game like this.
I hope they do it well – I’d love a cool little RPG of some sort. Or maybe a bunch of smaller games, like the streetpass stuff on 3DS. My Amiibo are almost never used as game-related stuff

As long as they try to get Banjo & Kazooie in this, I’ll be happy.
When talking about this kind of game in the future, please use Nintendo’s own term for it: Free-To-Start (F2S)
Thanks.
I so doubt it and it’s kinda insulting to not make a game using those Amiibo’s widely like Infinity or Skylanders, games that actually gave their own figurines a meaning to buy/use them. But no. They still insist selling that shit out of hype to moronic collectors while still wishing for an Amiibo-centric adventure game that’s never going to happen.

and, to the trash it goes
this is the same guy that went on a full melt down after his “rumor/ guess” that NX was weaker thna PS4 got called out to be bullshit of his part.
the only thing he usually gets right is canceled or old things from former employees. his track record for current thing rumors or anything outside of NA is dog trash
If you’re forced to buy an amiibo, it’s not F2P at all. Should be a standard coming with every purchased amiibo though.
