There’s a fresh new Nintendo NX rumour doing the rounds on the internet. The rumour comes from Nomura Securities which claims that the device could be showcased as early as March and released at the end of the year. While there’s quite a few people expecting the console to launch this coming holiday season, industry analyst Michael Pachter isn’t so sure as he has said that he isn’t aware of anyone with a development kit.

Sort of off topic but do you guys think Nintendo should have an actual presence at E3 or another Digital Event?
I honestly think it’s time for them to stop hiding. Considering that the NX reveal will (likely) be at this years E3, it’s pretty much a no brainier to have an actual presence so they can actually show the console and make actual hype.
I don’t want to get to deep into this but I never really liked the Nin’s digital e3’s… sure they are less time consuming, cheap, less awkward and easier but I never felt the same amount of hype or experience compared to watching an actual show. If I were to ever buy a ticket to go to e3, i would want to actually SEE the company.
So yah, should Nin do another digital event or a real presentation?
Honestly, I say keep doing Directs.
Not only is it quicker, more to the point and less awkward, but it benefits them by distancing themselves from their competitors. Direct competition could have worked well during the GC era, when they had strong hardware, but nowadays people judge the books by their covers way too much. I’m sure they realized that during the Wii era, hence the change of format.
And please, don’t let them axe the Treehouse. It’s the best thing they’ve done in a long while.
Fair choice, but that Smash competition should be enough of a reason for Nin to head back to original format. The hype was so unbelievable! it’s something that cant be replicated through digital means. Then they topped it all off by having the presence of great developers. If a simple competition can capture that much buzz–that much hype, then I think they should go physical again. Especially if they are going to reveal the NX.
Maybe they should recreate the E3 format by merging their conference with digital/directs in a unique way.
I prefer digital directs year round, but physical presence at E3.
Personally, I get equally hyped, if not more. I’m not planning to attend any time soon, so it’s all the same for me, only more convenient if there’s no staging issues making the presentation slower than it should be.

Oh, I don’t know. Perhaps announce and show off big games? And Nintendo should care. I have been a fan for years, but I, and many others like myself, have grown extremely bitter towards Nintendo and unless the NX completely amazes, we will move on. In case you haven’t noticed, the Wii U sold like dogshit. Between the NUMEROUS droughts, the casual carousel that was the Wii, the slap-in-the-face spin-offs, no third party games, no choice chat, lame gimmicks, straight up lies from people like Reggie, and so much more, many people simply do not trust Nintendo, nor hold them in any where near the high regard they used to. So Nintendo may not “give a crap that you’re not enjoying the news articles lately,” but they damn sure should worry about how many of us view them these days. And you’re right on one thing. They do have more important things to worry about. Specifically the big thing I mentioned: many people are going to tell Nintendo good-bye unless the NX is done incredible revelation.

That’s not how it should happen, though. Nintendo isn’t entitled to our attention, they have to get it first. With no news or updates, it’s only natural that its consumers grow more impatient and start to leave. What good will it be for Nintendo to hold its horses (not about the NX but about titles that should be more or less 100% complete like Zelda) if there’s none to see the race once it finally starts?

While Nintendo may not be as big as they once was they still have a very large fanbase, while I agree Zelda U has been delayed a bit too long (that happens sometimes with Zelda) they’re trying to make it the best it can be for what consumers they still have left.
I don’t blame them for abandoning the Wii U a bit too soon. Their secrecy about it, however, is making it seem much worse than it probably is, hence all the rumors of Zelda U jumping ship entirely. They need to be a bit more transparent about all that, it’s all I’m saying.

It gets on my nerves when I heard Nintendo discussing The Legend of Zelda series. They are always too reticent whenever they discuss about the franchise.
Also, Hyrule Historia is fancy and whatnot… But what the heck is that timeline? I remember Miyamoto and Anonuma saying that the franchise does not have timeline at all.

There was never meant to be a timeline. Nintendo finally made one to appease fans. You can’t really blame them for that.

Cool. I know my comments of Nintendo can be very critical, which rubs some people the wrong way. I know there are people who disagree with my views and think Nintendo is doing just fine. But honestly, I actually want Nintendo to do well. I am hoping they kick ass with the NX. I’ve been a Nintendo fan my whole life. So I am just disappointed at what they have become because I grew up when they were the cream of the crop, and I know what they are capable of. I just want them to get back to being a dominant force in gaming again. They still make (for the most part) amazing games, but their decisions these last two generations have left much to be desired. I am only a Nintendo fan today because I know their prior greatness first hand, and that is why I am still holding out hope and giving them one last chance to win me over. I honestly want them to do good again and win me back.

That’s a fair assessment. And in regards to the NX itself, I’ve tried my best to do that. I see many rumors, but I don’t believe any of them. They may be true, they may not. Until Nintendo tells us what it is, I’m withholding judgement. Some of the rumors were not to my liking, and I voiced my opinion that I hope they were not true. But I will not bash the NX until I know what it is. I can’t wait for the reveal though, so we can finally put all these rumors to rest (unless they’re true of course).

What makes you think the news people want from Nintendo are related to the NX only? Ever considered that we might want to hear some stuff about upcoming WiiU titles, considering we only have 3 or 4 titles scheduled for the entire year right now?

They used to talk about upcoming titles when Iwata was presidents through Nintendo Directs, but they haven’t been doing much of those lately. What’s the point in releasing a home console (it’s probably going to be either a home console, or a device with two units: one for household use, and another for gaming on the go) for which few games will be available at launch? Or is Nintendo going to pull out a decent lineup by themselves? (Plus Retro Studios, which have been probably developing a game for already two years. Plus Next Level Games, which has been said to be working on a Nintendo title that no mortal has ever heard about.)
I don’t know, while writing this comment I can sum up 4 or titles for the NX (Zelda, Pikmin, Retro Studios title, Next Level Games title, Koei-Tecmo title), this still seems underwhelming.
Also, corporate wise, this would hurt Nintendo home console division again, since western devs would have the following excuse to not support the NX: “We can’t bring our titles to the NX since we didn’t receive the dev kits with advance, but stay tuned for updates” — I must say, updates that will never happen — and all that blablablah we all are aware of.

We know that it’s not a Prime game (and 90% certain that it’s not Metroid in any shape or form) thanks to Tanabe, that it’s probably not another DK platformer and that Nintendo wanted to do a sequel to Diddy Kong Racing at some point, so Retro would probably be the most likely candidate. Either them or (hopefully) Monster Games.
First of all yes we do no Retro’s game is on Wii U. They don’t make handheld games and they started on heir he after Tropical Freeze which was 2 year ago. There was no NX Dev kit yet so obviously they are making a Wii U game. As for Metroid TANABE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE FUCKING INVOLVED WITH METROID. Retro’s CEO stated they were offered Metroid or DK before tropical freeze by Nintendo. They chose to do DK again cause they had ideas left over from DKC Returns. So unless Nintendo gave Metroid to someone else it was left waiting for Retro do to after Tropical Freeze. Lastly Miyamoto said 2 years ago that when it comes to Metroid he personally feels Retro is at the top if the list of deva to work on Metroid and that he feels retro can work on multiple games at once even.

That’s fair logic there, but the game could be moved to the NX anyway, even if it was originally planned as a Wii U release.
Tanabe has to be involved with Prime, however, given that he’s still the producer of the series. He said on record that no Prime is planned, that’s 100% confirmed. It doesn’t mean that Retro can’t be working on a non-Prime Metroid game, sure, but it confirms that it’s not a Prime-styled entry.
You also have to take into account that the Retro that did the Prime trilogy is long gone now. Not only the director, but the designer and some key devs left the studio after Corruption IIRC (they’re the ones working on ReCore now, if I have my facts straight). That means, current Retro is much more comfortable doing DK games than working on a new Metroid game. It might be intimidating for them to try another entry without the key figures that made it possible, I wouldn’t be surprised if they picked something completely different instead of another Metroid game.
I know Nintendo trusts Retro with the series, I’m positive they do. I don’t think Retro themselves are too eager to make another one, and that’s where the problem begins. Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong, better sooner than later.

On your guessing about Wii U getting a Metroid from Retro: this is a possibility, but… If it happens, the game probably will be dual release, like Zelda — of course, we are still supposing that Zelda will be available both on the U and on the NX.
As I said in my reply to him, remember Tanabe’s words. It’s 100% confirmed that whatever Retro is working on is not, in fact, a Prime game. The way Miyamoto, Reggie and the like were talking about the series makes me think that it’s nothing Metroid-related too.
It could be DKR. Since Retro seems to be the team in charge of DK now, they are already familiar with the series. Add to that that they collaborated on MK7 (it was a minor collab, IIRC, but it’s something) and that a DKR for the original Wii was scrapped, and I really think it could be it.
Nevertheless, if that’s it, it was probably moved to the NX, as over-used as that sentence is. By postponing it, the NX gains a new title for launch and DKR doesn’t compete with MK8. Sounds like something Nintendo would do given the Wii U’s current situation.
I am totally down for a Diddy Kong Racing, and it would be fantastic if it sees the light of the day and hits the NX.

Do you know about the scrapped one? It was supposed to feature the lesser-known Nintendo characters, like Chibi-Robo, racing for recognition. I think it was a fantastic idea, I’d totally be down for it too if they went and made it.

It’s not only likely, but it’s almost a certainty that Zelda U will be on the NX. Look at it from a business point of view instead of a fans, and you will understand.
I own my own indie studio I do my research and think about business wise. People bought a Wii U for Zelda I’d it doesn’t get its exclusive Zelda you think people will fall for that shit again no they won’t. They have fumbled with the fans trust and nearly lost it right now. Plus Nintendo has said over and over again they won’t drop or abandon Wii U and that the NX has nothing to do with Wii U or 3DS it’s it’s own platform. Unless NX drastically brings something to Zelda U it won’t be ported. And with backwards compatibility buying another $300+ console for Zelda AGAIN won’t happen.
If the NX released with a true Mario 64 sequel they would sell ten million units the first year. If it released with a Mario 64 sequel, the new Zelda, and a new Metroid game with next gen graphics, minds all across the world would simultaneously explode. They would still eventually need 3rd party support to keep the console moving, but they do not need 3rd party support to have a successful console launch.
Sadly this will not happen.

I see. But, at the same time, it is risky to Nintendo to prematurely pitch the market with another home console that won’t have a decent lineup of titles, especially from 3rd parties.
No the Wii U is not selling a lot but is up year over year. The sales of the console has increase although 3DS sells have been dropping. Strangely enough Wii U is doing something none of Nintendo’s other consoles have done and that increase in sales in the end of its life cycle. If 2016 is increased as well then that would be a first too.
The Wii U is a slow burner. People are getting it now because it finally has a catalog of games worth owning. Relatively speaking, most Nintendo consoles get the same amount of good worthwhile games in their first two years or so, and that’s counting Wii U’s 2016 releases. I think that’s why some people are picking one up just now. And for Splatoon, obviously.
I want them to announce that they’re announcing it at E3. Last year’s E3 direct sucked butt with most of it being announced like a month prior in a Direct, I want to be dazzled this year mang.

the wii u will sell when zelda hd releases this year. star fox will also have an impact. with all of the eventual AAA titles to be had on the Wii U all they have to do is price drop and it will fly off the shelves. NX console is for sure not coming until 2017.

people will hate me for what I going to say but Nintnedo should focus their efforts on the mobile games and Wii U games for the first half of 2016 in order to bring money and re-assure fans all over the world. 5 mobiles games which are shit should sell like hot cake, causual people love them. The social thing they announce as their first mobile games is very japanese and will do very good in Japan and asia.
Meanwhile they should ammounce a 2nd game which should not have any major nintendo IP but addictive and with lot of micro-transactions. That will boost the price share up and put them in a good position.
The new Nintendo 3DS doing more than OK and have much more 3rd party support. So 6 games for 2016 is a realistic target for them. The software release for the wii u should see 6 to 10 games this years.
Let nintendo to accounce the NX during the E3 2016, then have them wait/gauge the reaction of the public so that leave them 1 year to improve the product.

People need to stop suggesting this. This year would be too soon to launch. Nintendo will announce it at this year’s E3 because that’s the best place to do so. Then launch it holiday 2017. Get it right, people. That’s Nintendo’s pattern with home consoles. Always has been. 5 or 6 years after a previous console. Not 4.

Note-E3 2016 is still in the second quarter of 2016, so that much is guaranteed, the it will be shown off, essentially in the first half of the Year, but I’m still not convinced that it will be released this year.
Just to note that it is Nintendo’s first quarter for their fiscal year. When they have their year end meeting, the information about R&D. R&D will tell you when they will start producing new products.

The first mobile title will be released in march along with my nintendo. They are releasing 4 more by 2017. More than one title will release this year but I agree on 2017.

Yeah Nintendo sucks and the nx better be good and I can’t wait for the shin megami fire emblem crossover it is day one
I really hope the NX doesn’t get released this year, it’s just too soon. We should give Nintendo all the time they need to make sure the system is ready to compete with the PS5 and the next Xbox not the current gen systems. Nintendo needs to court as much 3rd party support as they can and I really doubt a majority of the major western publishers/developers have dev kits right now but on the flipside if the NX should release this year I’d be fine with that but I still think that rushing the system out this soon may be a huge mistake if the rumors are believed to be true
