In a recent interview with The World Folio, Hajime Satomi, President and CEO of the Sega Sammy Holdings Inc, confirmed that the Sonic The Hedgehog movie will be hitting the big screens in 2018. The movie will be a live action and animation hybrid, and is part of the Sega Sammy Group’s plans to expand the Sonic brand into new entertainment areas.
Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie scheduled for release in 2018. Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.
There has been a couple of snippets of information regarding Sonic lately, we recently posted about Takashi Iizuka’s hopes for Sonic’s future and Big Red Button speaking out about Sonic Boom. It seems the team are working hard on rebuilding the brand after the backlash from Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

I’d really like to believe the hybrid approach is for a Sonic Adventure movie, but we all know that’s not going to happen.
I’m definitely applying extreme caution until a trailer is shown. The Angry Birds movie does offer hope (never thought I’d say that a couple years ago), but that one has yet to prove itself. Illuminations, aside from Hotel Transylvannia and Despicable Me (to a point), don’t have the best track record as of yet. They’re likely involved in some capacity.
On a related note, Sony distributor Columbia Pictures has also unleashed the Smurfs movies and Pixels (courtesy of Happy Madison). My suspicion is that we’ll get the same stupid “Sonic leaves his video game world and visits Earth” story we’ve seen for decades. He’ll probably befriend Will Ferrell or something.
I’d be saying he’d visit Adam andler. Because he’s sort of human Sonic. Decent at first, but now only good to make fun of, and everything with him involved being a trainwreck.

I’m hoping the best for Sonic franchise right now… It’s been going through so much shit and I really feel bad for it and hoping everything gets better soon. I think they should make a new game and not a movie tho

Aaaaaaaaand that’s why I think this film will be no better than that trashy Super Mario Brothers film from years ago.
They should make a movie re-make of sorts called “Who Framed Sonic the Hedgehog?” with an alcoholic Detective Pikachu (voiced by Danny Devito) on the case.

Oh Dear God… SEGA JUST STOP THIS MADNESS!!!
There are three ways this could go:
– Sonic movie tries original plot. Ends up terrible.
– Sonic movie tries game plot. Ends up confusing and terrible.
– Sonic movie tries Archie plot, but don’t give Archie any sort of say on how the film is made. Ends up terrible and bankrupts Archie in the process.
