Nintendo: Five Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Be Concerned For Nintendo

Jesse Divnich over at Forbes has written a compelling article about why consumers shouldn’t be worried about Nintendo. Since the launch of the Nintendo 3DS there has been some scepticism in certain quarters about whether or not Nintendo can remain the dominant force within the video games industry. You can read the full article here. Let me know what you think.

  1. I am so glad someone finally said this- the forecasts of gloom and doom coming from idiots like Pachter and people from Sony are getting ridiculous. Every time a nintendo console has launched in the past 7 years, starting with the DS back in 2004, all of these “experts” in the industry scream about how stupid Nintendo is and that they’re doomed. Funny how that has never even come close to being the case. Great article!

  2. Well, i think it’s just a matter of time before Nintendo quite making video games systems.
I’m a HUGE fan of Nintendo and i don’t want that to happen, but Apple is such a troublesome
with their iPhones and iPads! The mobile devices has grown ALOT recently and it’s growing fast kike a monster, therefor a video game handheld system is getting weaker, all thanks to the iPod touch and it’s $.99 garbage games. though we might see a home console from Apple too ! “that’s gonna be a trouble”.
but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of Nintendo, No one can make softwares and games like Nintendo
    NO ONE !!!!
in the future we might see Nintendo as a third party company
    just like Sega

I wish i die before i see that day comes true

    1. what the hell are you talking about? Sega ruined themselves by not sticking to their own hardware and lost focus of what the hell they were even going to support with games. Not only that they almost went bankrupt by betting the farm (with a good vision finally) with the Dreamcast and that failed because of people giving up on Sega sticking to their guns and Ps2 being highly HIGHLY anticipated. Sega lost out on the money flow they really needed and were forced to stop bothering with making their own hardware.. when they finally had a good thing created too at the time. Its too bad. Unlike Sega, Nintendo actually has a very sound financial strategy where they make profit on all sales and do not sell hardware at a loss while betting on the games to make the money (Sony and Microsoft do this, and at the same time can afford to, because they can dip into other departments of the parent company).

So its really foolish to say “Nintendo will eventually stop making hardware” what evidence do you have besides saying Apple somehow has entered a market with anything worth a damn? Anyone who actually knows the gaming community and follows it can say that Apple’s comparisons to the rest of the real video game industry is like saying phone/camera games have depth and compelling stories. They don’t.

  3. if you had a look at the real word
you’d see many MANY people prefer an iPod touch or an iPad than a DS or a PSP
WHY? because their softwares and games are %4000 cheaper
I know they are not real games, but who cares? you care, I care
well, alot of them don’t they only care about (how much is this)

what i’m trying to say is Nintendo is having more competitors than 10 years ago
Not just the NGP this time, we have the whole mobile industry

Nintendo (unlike Sony, Microsoft and Apple) only have the video games market
so it’s kind of easy for it to fall down

i hope Nintendo push more and more of it’s great games so that would never ever happen
like i said before “No one can make games like Nintendo”
especially for the semi dead the Wii

    1. Erm, the reason people prefer the iPad and iPod touuch is because most people don’t get them primarily for playing games, there’s a much bigger market and in some ways to some people, more acceptable. A Business person may buy an iPad to work with, obviously they aren’t ever going to use a DS or Psp.
Whatever anyone says, Nintendo doesn’t really directly compete with Apple in terms of hardware. It would never be like, oh I want to buy something to play games with, should I get a DS or iPod. Imo, it would only be, I only have enough money to get either a DS or an iPod, which one should I get?
I think both being electronics, someone may have to choose between owning one or the other, but in terms of gaming. I don’t see the iPod as a games. The reason people buy those cheap £0.99 games is because they’re cheap, end of. It costs me the same to get a bottle of coke whilst i’m out because im thirsty, it doesn’t take much thought and you can do it on impulse. So even if looking at in from software, people still probably won’t think, oh I don’t have much money, should I get a game for my DS or a game for my iPod?
Imo, all the iOS platform is able to deliver are at the same standard as flash games, not that there’s a problem with flash games, but they just aren’t on the same level. Personally, I don’t accept that someone looking specifically for something to play games on would choose to get an iPod or iPad. It’s more like an extra

  4. Nintendo lead the way with innovation, who else can the other companies copy when it comes to consoles. Sega mucked up with Dreamcast by not advertising it correctly, people didn’t know what that ‘swirl’ was all about unless you was a gamer! I don’t worry about Nintendo because I know they will always come up with something good. They’ve got the mascots and history to keep on going and wowing folk.

  5. that guy needs to do a little more homework, seeing as Nintendo has been in business over 100 years now. not just the 20 that the article is suggesting.

Nintendo is the ONLY gaming company with a console. Sony and Microsoft are NOT videogame companies. they are electronic companies with a videogame sector, which is completely different. Sony and Microsoft CAN up and leave the gaming industry at any point and still survive without their gaming fanboys, they just know that that would leave untapped resources.

  6. great article, i’m not worried about Nintendo, they’ll around for a long time to come, with or without HD, the Wii prooves that you don’t need HD graphics to be a top selling console
