Nintendo 3DS Beats Nintendo’s Four Million Sales Expectations By Two Whole Months

According to Japanese publication The Nikkei the Nintendo 3DS is on track to cross the four million mark in Japanese sales by the end of the year. In an earlier interview Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that he expected the system to reach the four million mark within a year of its launch, or by the end of February 2012. Looks as though Nintendo is set to beat that by two whole months.

      1. Yeah! People always seem to forget that. The DS launch and early life was WORST than the 3DS in my opinion. Brings back bad memories of Pokemon Dash and a ton a crappy movie games >_<

  1. 4million and i still havent gotten a damn streetpass lol (my town sucks ass though) this is great thing, maybe developers will finally stop shying away from it.

      1. by the end of the year the 3DS should have achieved 12 million or possibly 13 million worldwide.

        But probably still doomed.

        1. It already sold 12,5 million according to vgchartz, which has been pretty spot on lately and it sold 1,5 million last week WW, so it should end up selling atleast 14 million by the end of the year and probably 18 million by the end of the quater which is 2 million more than Nintendo hoped..

    1. But that was the whole point of the price drop. If they didn’t care about selling their product they would have kept the price at 250 and be at a disadvantage when the Vita came out.

So they drop the price in time for the holidays and the release of some their most anticipated titles and now they are kicking ass and making huge profits. That’s smart business.

      1. Yeah, you have to take extreme measures to come out on top. Im glad the price drop did its job. Next year will be AMAZING! Im going to be broke most of next year. Lol

  2. Slightly misleading title, should have said “nintendo 3ds is on track to beat nintendos four million sales expectations” as it doesn’t actually say they’ve met the target already, but that it looks like they will

  3. This accomplishment is thanks to Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. Because, when I went to my local Walmart to get Mario Kart 7, the Mario Kart 7s and Super Mario 3D Lands were sold out because everyone bought it the entire weekend.

    1. Were talking about Japan now, so this was accomplished thanks to Monster Hunter, which was sold out and pushed the sales above the first week sales.

    1. It’s Nintendo fans like you that make me sick.

Why can’t we live in harmony? You’re no better than the annoying Sony fans.

    1. achievements/trophies ruin video games and i’m glad nintendo games don’t have them. people should just enjoy the gameplay and only care about accomplishing random tasks if it unlocks something for you ingame

  4. To be realistic, it’s not really anything to be astounded by. They set themselves this target expecting that they would reach it. It wasn’t an aspiration but a realistic prediction of where sales would be. And to be honest, seeing as this target was made before the price cut, it shouldn’t be surprising that now, it looks like they’ll meet it. Instead it should be quite disappointing if they don’t.

    1. This prediction was made even before the 3DS started selling slowly. This now proves that the price cut not only fulfilled the previous expectations but also gave it a two month bonus.

Nintendo is now happy that sales are picking up, you should be too instead of talking shit.

  5. This happen only cos I killed a gye in sacrifice to Nintendo god.I kill local man who well known Sony love.I would kill again to please Nintendo god.

  6. Nintendo needs to get this equation in their head:

Low console price + Good games = Lots of sales. If they apply this to the Wii U, it’ll have the most sales again this generation.
