NPD: Nintendo 3DS Sales Increased 17% From This Time Last Year

The NPD Group’s video game industry analyst, Anita Frazier, has revealed that the Nintendo 3DS is the only platform that hasn’t seen a decline in sales from this time last year. The Nintendo 3DS managed to sell 113.5K in May, while Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sold 160K. The Nintendo DS saw a 35% increase of sales from the previous month. This was due to the price cut of the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL.

“All hardware platforms, save the 3DS, saw a decline in unit sales versus last year. The Nintendo DS, however, did realize a 35% lift over April 2012, catalyzed by the May 20th price reduction on the DSi and DSi XL. Even with the price drop on the DS platform, 3DS sales realized an increase of 17% over last May.”

    1. ha hah ahhaha go tell that to sony who is pissing in their pants worrying what to do with that neglet system.

      Get N or get OUT!!!!

    2. Wow….everyone who replied to this guy, (Who’s name is troll, I should probably point out……) Just failed….hard…

      Yep. Even me.

    1. just asking, would it be possible to create a 3ds game that is 800×240, without using the 3d effect? cuz it would be awesome for NSMB2

      1. It’s like extended levels with new features, nothing to awe you, but enough to buy it and get some hours out of it

  1. Nintendo have done a great job on the 3DS sales. 17% increase truly means something. Thanks Sickr. Now where is that bunch of bananas that Iwata-san has…?

  2. We are expecting the 3DS to sell even better when these amazing games are in the market later this year:
    Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon
    Paper Mario: Sticker Star
    New Super Mario Bros. 2
Epic Mickey 2: Power of Illusion
    Heroes of Ruin
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate
    Scribblenauts Unlimited
    Animal Crossing: Jump Out
    and many more!
Video games are meant to be just one thing. Fun. Fun for everyone.

      1. why am i have a feeling that behind that satory iwata gravatar and reggie gravatar is a fammiliar person?
anyway wii want to see a retro anouncment

      1. Bro killer instinct is owned by microcock. I emailed Nintendo and they told me that. Nintendo should just buy the rights for that ip.

      2. Actually, there were speculations that a KI remake was coming, but Nintendo and Microcunt couldn’t come to an agreement since Nintendo originally own the publishing rights to KI while Rare are the development team behind it and MS owns Rare, which ain’t doing shit these days

  3. Good to hear that the 3DS is doing well. I plan on buying one this summer, since I’ll finally have the available funds to get one. If it weren’t for college, I would have bought one as soon as the price dropped, or maybe even at launch!

    1. It’s a good investment, hours of entertainment for the price. College? How easy is it to drop 100 at the pub? One night and the money is gone to a hangover

  4. You mean they SHOULD be releasing new games for the handheld system, and NOT just create the same game they made for the console?

  5. Quality games. I am sick how many uncharted, metal gear resistance, cod and asscreed do you have to play there on the ps3 thats not quality thats a ripoff. The 3ds has kid icarus on of the most highly reviewed games of this year mario kart 7 and get it its gona be the only mario kart. And oot a remake of an awesome game not a hd remake of a ps3 hd remake with touch control. And gravity rush not that great for a game thats meant to defines the vita as its own system i will rather buy revelations and i hate R.E. Quality is the ps3 not vita. And rise in sale simple the main game is not out or will be out on the ps3 . The vita need to be unique. The 3ds is noting like the wii even though it has wii game (mh). Quality am shocked. And if sony think cross play with the smash bros copy will get the vita sales they better fire there marketing team
