Carmack Says Doom 3 BFG Would Be Great On Wii U, Not Enough Interest In Platform

Britton Peele, the Online Entertainment Editor and Producer at The Dallas Morning News, says that legendary developer John Carmack would have liked to bring Doom 3 BFG Edition to the Wii U, but he says there’s simply not the interest in the platform at the moment. He also said that he would like to develop for 3DS but says it’s extremely unlikely to happen.

“I always thought the Wii U and the Vita would be great targets for Doom 3:BFG. But there’s not enough interest”

Thanks, Christopher

    1. It makes perfect sense…

“I think Doom 3 would be great on Wii U…

A years old game at that…

Not enough demand but I won’t create a game for the succesful 3DS either…”

      Yes…

    2. So this is a comment about raging cause the game is not coming to Wii U or a comment about ID’s game Rage?

  1. This website should have link to demand because Wii U needs 3rd party support. It kind useless telling the fans that a company wants to make a game for a Nintendo console / handheld and then their no link to demand it

  2. Well atleast they mentioned the Vita as well not to make it sound like they’re bashing Nintendo in a sense.

  3. Guys I have a question about the size of games: Why is it that developers dont make games like X and Y bigger in size. Like 8 GB. Pokemon Battle Rev is only 4 GB, imagine what kind of game they could make with 8GB?

    1. It depends in what they use it. Content or texture resolution. 8g game next Gen could easily be 4 hour game if they have a priority in graphics.

    2. development costs. unnecessary content. development budget.
take a look at Super Smash Bros Brawl, it’s nearly 7.5 GB.
that’s only because the game is dual layered and all the extra content is used by the cutscenes. the cutscenes didn’t really add to the gameplay, it’s simply just extra content.

  4. I really don’t like it when companies do this. They say that they want to make a game, but then they don’t make it because there’s “not enough interest in the platform.” Here’s a suggestion: Make the game! Going ahead and making the game could be the very thing to CREATE INTEREST in the platform.

    1. You’d be singing a different tine if he was bringing it to the Wii U… most on here would. Can’t people respect this guy? He is one of the first to give an ACTUAL reason for not bringing their game to the Wii U. 💋

  5. I’m sick off this “not enough interest in the platform “. Make some fucking interest then u retards jeez fucking Christ !!!! Am I mad bro ? Yes yes I fucking am !

    1. You do realize that he held off putting on the Wii U and just basically waited to see if Support for the console increased instead of letting the sales of the game decided whether or not they should develop for the Wii U, right?

    2. You know, it isn’t the 3rd partie’s job to support the Wii U right? That’s Nintendo’s job. The 3rd parties just want to make money and with what the videogame market is right now, I don’t blame them. One bad move from smaller companies and they get crushed and go bankrupt. 💋

  6. All they have to do is make the game only available from their website, and whoever wants it can just order it.

  7. I love Carmack and I know people will think I’m against the Wii U (Even though I have one and loving it) but he has a fair point. He didn’t want to release the game on the Wii U because there isn’t enough support at the moment, at least he actually waited to see results unlike the guys who made Sniper Elite V2 who basically said they won’t be developing for the Wii U anymore because no one would by their 2 year old game.

I think he is actually planning on releasing Doom 4 on the Wii U instead because he loves the platform and even said in an early interview when the Wii U was first announced that he loved the power of the system and would love to develop on it. So don’t get mad at him because Doom 3 BFG (Big Fucking Gun) Edition isn’t heading to the Wii U.

    1. Lame excuse.
Wii U hasn’t launched yet when they released this game.
Though this game would have not helped push the system any further.

  8. John Carmack is correct here. There is enough of us Nintendo Gamers to warrant a nintendo niche game, but not a third party niche ip at the moment. Next year though bring it on for a price of $39.99/£27.00 and € 29.99. Their is dedication in his statement and that is all that is needed.

    1. Actually, quite a lot of people including some old timer PC gamers like myself. Doom is a franchise that pretty much help Wolfstein kick off the FPS genre and they are still the best games to day.

Doom 3 might not have been the best Doom but it was still an awesome game known the less.

  9. Yeah, it’s true. There isn’t much interest in the console right now. However, this might well change in the near future and hopefully this will bring us some tasty third-party games.

    1. I know right! I might end up eating the games since they are so dang tasty! :P I would say this holiday will bring a lot of goodness from Nintendo. Man, we are going be stuffed.

  10. I have read about a hundred of these articles where they say the same thing. How do they think the console will meet the sales figures they think it should? By people buying it for kicks? If these games are good, they will buy the system to play it.

  11. Pingback: Nintenderos.com – Wii U, Wii y Nintendo 3DS | John Carmack interesado en desarrollar para Wii U, aunque lo ve poco probable.

    1. Actually, John Carmack isn’t against the Wii U, as a matter of fact he stated ages ago he loves it and would love to develop for it but he wants to wait to see how many people are playing on the console first before releasing a game onto the platform.

Why is it you fanboys/girls always bitch when a game like Doom doesn’t come onto the Wii U and always blame the developer? Blame the lack of advertising of the Wii U. Wii U needs more help and I’m pretty sure games like Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 will help boost sales.

    1. Actually, RAGE wasn’t that bad and Doom 3 was actually really good as well. People kept bitching about RAGE but really it brought a new style for FPS game instead of the standard Call of Duty-Styled game that people play now a days. John Carmack actually makes games unique and tries to find new ways of changing up the formula.

Plus, I think you are a little butthurt just because he didn’t release Doom 3 BFG onto the Wii U.

      1. Plus I think you’re an retard.
I have Doom 3 BFG on PC, and it bored me off after 15 minutes.

What I do not understand, why does this even matter?
That game was initially released in 2004, why would I even want it for Wii U?

  12. loadsa of interest in ps4 and xbone tho with those ZERO SALES SO FAR

shut up industry man you talking crap again

wii remote and nunchcuck dual screens THE FPS PLATFORM CLEARLY twin stick fps is like being in a wheelchair

    disabled gamer LOL

    1. Or Carmack has no interest on the platform?
Either way, I dont give a fuck.
As someone stated, he’s 80’s dev.
But unlike Nintendo’s, his legendary IP’s has been raped long ago.

  13. Will the bad news of the Wii U ever end? Alright already!! Anomymous you win! Nintendo fucked up the Wii U. I can’t take this shit no mo. Bad news here and bad news there. Yet still no info about if Wii U increased in sales when Pikmin 3 came in 2nd in UK. I been searching for it for days and its hard as hell to find good things on Wii u and what’s more frustrating is Nintendo is dorment on everything. They aren’t defending nothing about the Wii U. I’m sorry but I can’t come to this site if bad news continues.

  14. It’s too bad. If Nintendo were to come out with their big games at launch we wouldn’t be in this situation right now and Doom 3 would be on the Wii U and NOT the Vita, because that thing still sucks. (sigh) what could have been… 💋

  15. Well then, 3DS and it’s predecessor the DS along with the Wii U predecessor the Wii each of them all have a huge install base, but ID never made a game for any of them, not even porting an old Wolfenstein, Quake, or Doom, nothing. This guy is full of shit, he is a PC geek who hated home consoles until they got so big he couldn’t ignore them, but he still hate Nintendo for saving home console market and kicking PC games asses. The same is true of Bethesda. They just don’t like Nintendo period. They could have put Elder Scrolls on GameCube, it was just as powerful as Xbox, but the didn’t. They could easily put Elder Scrolls Skyrim Legendary Edition on Wii U with a map and items on the Gamepad, and it would sell a profit, but they hate Nintendo for standing against DRM.

  16. I do not understand how people can say that there isn’t enough interest in Wii U. It’s the games that bring out the interest.

If games don’t get developed, then there won’t be interest. The developers are so stupid (other than Carmak).

  17. People want this game on the Wii U should all tweet the developer on Twitter. Let them know Wii U owners want the game!
