Nintendo’s eShop catalogue is shaping up to become an excellent base for independent developers and, with the wealth of games available, Nintendo has seemingly approved cross-platform play between other consoles. According to Ripstone’s creative director Phil Gaskell, Nintendo said that it wouldn’t be a problem for Pure Chess – released later this year for Wii U and 3DS – to incorporate cross-platform multiplayer. Currently, Pure Chess is available for smartphones, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, so if you’re looking to purchase the game on a Nintendo console, you could have the option to play against those on Android or iOS.
It’s not the first time Nintendo has allowed cross-platform play either, as Cubemen 2 can be played in online multiplayer against those on PC, Mac and Linux. Gaskell claimed that though Nintendo has been quiet on the issue, the company is certainly not idle. Speaking to Eurogamer, Gaskell said the following in support of Nintendo:
“They’re changing their policies on the technical side a lot swifter. We’re launching Pure Chess and Knytt Underground later this year, and on Pure Chess we asked whether we could do cross-platform multiplayer, expecting it to be the typical closed console platform I’ve been used to working with for 20 years. Within a couple of days they said, ‘yep, no problem. You can have other console players playing against Wii U players. You can have smartphone players play against them. No problem.’
“We’re still talking to Sony about them relaxing their policies, but we don’t think they’ll have any issue with it. So when we launch Pure Chess you’ll be able to play against Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android players. And when we patch PlayStation those consoles will be added into the mix as well.”

I have both and I’ve been incessantly playing Pokémon the whole weekend. The Vita’s nice, but I’d rather play most of my console-quality games on my PS3 and Wii U… Having a bit of a blast with WipEout 2048, though.
My biggest issue with the Vita is that its 4GB card isn’t nearly enough to download the games I got from PS+ and a larger memory card costs a very large sum of money.
No he’s not missing out. As a 3ds owner I think the 3D feature is a garbage gimmick. It doesn’t make games look better and its just annoying to the eyes. I still enjoy the system but I would have prefered if they took out 3D for better graphics and a better processor
I have a 3D TV and barely use the 3D features and I don’t even use the 3D on my 3DS. Vita not having stereoscopic 3D is no loss, really.

Well to be honest though the Wii U is weaker than the PS4 and Xbox “Doomed” One it actually has more variety in terms of games, you have a dark Zelda/Metroid games, bright and colourful Mario/Kirby/Yoshi games, you have your fast kart racing of Mario Kart and F-Zero’s Sci fi Racing. To be honest, all I see on the PS4 and Xbox One are shooters and fighting games and that’s pretty much it. Though to be fair.. the Wii U and PS4 have more indie titles than the already Doomed Dreamcast One… Opps I mean Xbox One.
