Nintendo enters the critical holiday selling season with strong momentum, as Nintendo 3DS finished as the best-selling video game system in the U.S. for the fifth consecutive month and Wii U enjoyed new momentum following a price cut.
On Oct. 15, Nintendo revealed that Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, which launched globally on Oct. 12, combined to sell more than 4 million units worldwide during its first two days on the market. A full breakdown of U.S. sales for the games, as well as the new Nintendo 2DS handheld, which launched on the same day, will be included in next month’s NPD report. In addition to the latest Pokémon adventure, Nintendo 3DS fans have two exciting games on the horizon, both launching on Nov. 22: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Mario Party: Island Tour.
On Sept. 20, Nintendo reduced the price of the Wii U Deluxe Set by $50 to a suggested retail price of $299.99 and introduced a limited-edition bundle that features a download code for a digital copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Sales of Wii U hardware in September increased by more than 200 percent over sales in August, and that is with only 15 days of data being reported at the new price. Over the next few weeks and months, Wii U fans can look forward to playing Wii Party U (Oct. 25), Wii Fit U (Nintendo eShop, Nov. 1) Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games (Nov. 15) and Super Mario 3D World (Nov. 22).

Wow that article written by a Nintendo fanboy? Any game can run at 60 fps if they want it to. What matters is how many polygons can be pushed at 60 fps.
The more polygons you have on the scene the less fps you will get.
Just look at Mario Kart 8, no idea if it running at 1080p 60 fps but you can see that all the environments are very low polygon, look at the trees there, they copy pasted the same low polygon tree everywhere. Those trees in Mario Kart 8 look like they came out an N64 game (go look and see).
Why couldn’t Nintendo even get their 2D Mario launch game to run at 1080p, it a 2D game for crying out loud and they couldn’t even run that at 1080p. I love the Wii U and want it to succeed, but I feel like they left the system-sellers too long, I could easily be wrong, but with PS4 and XBOne just around the corner, I think the Wii U is going to struggle.
Hopefully the numbers are good and the Wii U recovers, but I doubt we’ll get a huge increase until the big games come out.

Look…I’ve been reading most of the bullshit arguing going on on this page…and I wanna give my two cents. First, I wanna say that I grew up a diehard Nintendo fan… Here’s the flat out truth about Nintendo: They were the SHIT back when the 8-bit one and the 16-bit one were out. I mean they ass spanked everything that was thrown at them…even the PS1…and don’t forget about the game boy systems…but during the N64 era, they lost touch w/ American fans. Aside from Mario, Zelda and Samus…Nintendo did not have nothing to compete against GTA3 when PS2 came out. They are some cocky fucking ninja Nazis the way they continue to march to their own drum. They should have, in my opinion, downgraded like Sega did by becoming software developers. Id buy a Zelda game right NOW on PS4…theyd make more money too. 350 or even 250 for outdated graphics is absurd. Fuck that. Id rather get ass raped by All the Koopa Troopas in 8 bit Mario.
Nintendo would lose money and size if they go software only. Even some of the biggest third party companies like EA (and EA is all about making money 1st) are only a ~third of what Nintendo is in term of assets. Shit, look at Sega now.
The gaming industry, outside of Nintendo, is all about AAA games. These giant third parties created a market environment that craves for AAA games. It’s all big budget development cost and marketing, games need to sell atleast a few million just to break even (I think GTAV needed 8-10mil unit to break even). A lot of developers went under and people laidoff because of this. The industry is seeing more and more outsourcing to cut cost, basically “cut your own studios, contract low paid studios from developing countries, spend large amounts on marketing alone”.
There are little-to-no A/B games anymore because they get overshadowed and gamers want AAA games. There is a huge gap/hole between AAA and small budget games(indies&mobile). If big companies can’t keep up with the AAA-industry, they lose money. Look at Sega(loss$$bayonetta), Capcom(megaman=canned), Ubisoft(disappointing splinter cell sales) and Square Enix(financial troubles).
Nintendo shouldn’t join in on that, instead, a better move is to create their own environment to do thier own thing and make it easy for other devs to join in. That’s what they’ve done with DS, 3DS, Wii and WiiU, and they don’t even need to sell lot to make money + license revenues. Even gamecube-like number’s is enough for them to make profit and that’s not including handheld. All these “WiiU doom, Nintendo doom” anti-hype is overblown.
1 decent game coming from Nintendo this holiday for WiiU and it doesn’t even have online coop. Huge dissapointment is the WiiU, I said I would give it a year and well it’s close enough. It seems it’s being licensed to Ninty, then Platinum was contracted to develop it. In this case it’s probably also safe to say Bayonetta 2 is a Nintendo game (like ‘NFL’ is licensed to @#).
