So many great memories in a simple list.
If Chrono Trigger was there it would be a complete list – This is Gamer, Peace Out
Chrono Trigger is included in the list (see #17)
way too far back in the list. it should be in this top 5 but thats just my opinion :b – This is Gamer, Peace Out
awesome…
I will always miss you Turok! You and AKKLAIM will be always on mi heart!
EDGE readers obviously have very good taste in games. Maybe I should start getting it.
all hardcore jrpg players knows how overderrated ff7 is…
I prefer 5 and 6, but 7 is still amazing.
And the rest of us know it’s not.
That list is tight. Good job.
I’m sorry, but the games on the list are good, yes. but i think that when most of the readers chose the games, they chose them with nostalgia tinted glasses
Like let’s take Ocarina of time for instance. That game was good, sure it was revolutionary for the time. but every zelda game PAST ocarina of time (so stuff like skyward sword and wind waker) improved on the forumla substantially, and made the game better than it actually is. One cannot say that Ocarina of Time is better than Skyward sword for instance. You can say that you LIKE ocarina of time better than Skyward but you cannot say that Ocarina of time is one of the best games ever.
It’s seriously annoying like how people praise the adventure games for being one of the best games in the whole Sonic Series even though other games are technically better than it
let people have their opinions, how would you know what they like best?
because this isn’t a ‘What’s your favourite game’ article, this is a ‘Best Games of EDGEs’ Lifetime’ article
I played OoT for the first time this year and it was definitely one of the best.
again, liking a game and a game nbeing the best aren’t the same thing
So how do I rate a game being objective and ignoring my gut feeling is my question to you?
no, one doesn’t ignore subjective views otherwise your review will be trash. But let’s be frank, what’s better?
a game which does things pretty well
or a game which does everything the other game does pretty well, and then even more. Also the game has better replay value?
Think rationally?
FF7 my favorite game
Chrrrrono Crossss
Your opinion is wrong!
your name is wrong!

Not a bad list, I guess… all these games are in the top of their class but it would’ve been nice to see some nod to Metroid, especially Prime or the one on Super Nes.
Seeing Zelda and Mario claim the top spots really ticked me off, ’cause Nintendo is totally milking those 2 characters right now.
All these were great! Memories!
Did they include ep1 and ep2 into HL2? Because that would not be right, imo HL1 was better.
i feel like melee shouldve made it in there somewhere
LOZ Ocarina is not my favorite game even by a long shot, However it consistently is put on top ten lists and reprinted (Gamecube, 3DS, Eshop) while Games like Windwaker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword and overlooked. The later games in the series are overlooked because OOT is the better game. You can not base the greatness of a game on games to come out on future hardware. you need to look at what was done with what they had at the time and how it resonated. By that logic you could say Goldeneye is a terrible game because Call of Duty has so much more to offer.
Every gamer grew up with Nintendo, of course the first games are Nintendo games :D
Still today, they are masterpieces and excellent games to play.
