Major UK Retailer Says Mario Kart 8 Is The Last Chance for Wii U

MCV has spoken to one of the biggest names in UK retail who has told the trade publication that Mario Kart 8 and a substantial price cut are needed to save the Wii U. The retailer called for Nintendo to reduce the price of the console to sub-£200 if it’s to have a chance of competing against the competition.

“A sub-£200 machine will help, and Mario Kart is desperately needed to reach the fans,” said the games boss of one of the UK’s biggest retailers. “We also need something revolutionary that makes use of the second screen and has mainstream appeal, which is easier said than done.”

“There is only one real last chance for Wii U and it is Mario Kart 8. It could still be the game that sparks interest in Wii U, but it would need to be combined with a more mass market retail price.”

    1. That’s just it, though, it’s a UK company. It might be the last chance for the Wii U in the UK, but that’s the Wii U’s worst territory.

      1. Yes but Mario Kart in recent generations is basically the top or one of the top sellers of any Nintendo machine…

If it doesn’t sell Wii Us nothing else will…

        1. MK8 and Smash… If they dont move systems significantly, WiiU will officially be a dud. They def need to slash the price of the system as well (AND GIVE EARLY ADOPTERS SOMETHING) A $199 entry point for the deluxe would shift an amazing amount of systems and give 3rd party the install base to develop games. Nintendo shouldve ran with that price for the xmas shopping season and they wouldve been #1 and wouldve moved quite a few systems.

This will be my last Nintendo launch console, it wasn’t planned out and poorly executed. Releasing a version 2.0 of the WiiU THIS YEAR would be a HUGE help as well. They also need to get some 3rd party on board AND buy some studios.. gotta spend $$ to make $.

          1. I think the games should be the main priority this year…

If it doesn’t sell, just abandon Wii U ship and start over while focusing 100% on the 3DS until the new weaponry is complete…

            1. Sad thing is, WiiU will likely eventually be remembered as a GameCube, with solid games but little install. Its a shame Nintendo doesnt know how to market their products effectively and weren’t prepared for HD. WiiU seems like what the Version 2.0 of Wii shouldve been and should not have been Nintendo entry into the next/current gen. .

              1. Game delays essentially killed the momentum and by the time they started releasing some solid games (pikmin, WWHD, SM3DW, W101, ect) the attention was on PS4/Xone

          2. Although I agree Early adopters should get something, our 2-year digital discount practically worthless and having invested in good faith they’d deliver on their promises… I don’t think it’s gonna happen. :/

          3. Personally, I don’t expect Super Smash Bros. to push the WiiU sales significantly, since it will be available for the 3DS as well. Yes, the WiiU version will have better graphics and some exclusive stages and all that (not very important) stuff, but that’s by far not going to convince people to spend hundreds of $/€/£/whatever-your-country’s-currency-is just to play a game they might as well go and buy for a system they already own. It was not a smart move to release a game that easily could have been a major WiiU system seller on the 3DS, a gaming system tens of millions of people own, too.
So what this retailer said is pretty much the truth, it’s all up to Mario Kart and only to Mario Kart.

            1. id actually like to play it on wiiu better though. The WiiUpro controller will do wonders for smash or even the default gamepad…
But with 3ds, your stuck with one control stick and cramped up hands.

            2. If they add legit online multiplayer for the Wii U version of Smash, I think that would help sales a lot

      2. However I do believe the Wii U will end up selling fair so it won’t be a total failure…

      3. Yeah, but they’re speaking the truth. If those dumbass nintendo executives don’t have a SERIOUS ad campaign (something along the lines of what google did to motorola- gave them $500 million), they’re done. They need to do commericials, magazine ads, online campaigns, launch events, and various meetups/giveaways.
…The more i think about it, the more i think it would make sense for a nintendo superbowl commercial, not just for mariokart 8, but also showing off the features of the wii u and the variety of games (arkham origins, cod ghosts, 3d world, smash bros, wonderful 101, watch dogs, little inferno, and 2k13).

    2. THEY FORGOT SMASH AND ZELDA!!!!! oh and the myioamoto ip but it will need a few games before it can get as big as Kirby or dk. at the moment its probably the size of pikmin or starfoxat most.

      1. Not really…

I mean they are good sellers in a way but compared to Mario Kart, Mario Kart eclipses everything…

      2. They need to give the Wii U a giant sales boost, before those two will even become a reality. Currently we haven’t seen any new Zelda and Smash Bros probably won’t see store shelves, unless they turn the Wii U into a success.

        1. Considering they already confirmed Smash Brothers and Zelda U, cancelling them would make matters worse…

Not only will the Wii U fail but a big chunk of its loyal fans will abandon ship…

And that won’t happen during my watch…

        2. Are you high?! Smash bros is nigh on finished, and you say it won’t hit store shelves?! Look at the screenshots. Nintendo would end their company if a game that close to being finished was cancelled.

Don’t even bring up Earthbound 64, that game was only halfway done and then got released for the GBA. It doesn’t count.

              1. I am just saying, that Smash Bros is probably also only halfway finished by now… The previous installments were delayed several times, and this has not been in devolpment for more than like two years. I am sure, that Sakurai will make sure the game is perfect and take all the time he needs. So if Smash Bros will be delayed to 2015 (which I believe is very likely), there might be a chance that the Wii U will be gone by then, unless Mario Kart is gonna move units, which would be a surprise. It’s once again, a great game but mostly appealing to a niche crowd; the people who allready owns a Wii U.
Kids won’t care which Mario Kart they’re playing since they all look alike to the untrained eye, so if they can have Mario Kart on their 3DS or Wii, their parents probably won’t buy them a Wii U just for one game – and that leaves only the adult and teenage consumers, where 9/10 are allready hardcore Nintendo fans who buys all first party products – and that’s the people who allready have a Wii U, which is not that many. So I truly don’t believe we will get to see Smash Bros for Wii U.

If Nintendo are clever and rumors are true, they’ll pull the plug on Wii U and release a new killer system by Christmas with Smash Bros as a release title, maybe even a pack-in. Now that would sell some units.

      3. I don’t know why people are so convinced that Super Smash Bros. is going to be a huge system seller. Why would people go buy an entire new system to play a game they might as well just buy for a console they already have, the 3DS ? For the exclusive stages ? For the better graphics ? But I thought “graphics don’t matter for Nintendo !!! it’s the gameplay that counts !!!”. Double-standards ain’t gonna work here, nobody is going to pay $300+ for something they might as well enjoy for a mere $45.

        1. it will play better on wiiu than 3ds, and pros will likey want to use a real controller thus playing it on wiiu rather than a small 3ds.

      1. Too early for Mario Kart…

But if it could have been done then it would be great…

I think though SM3DW should have been the launch title instead of the rehashed NSMBU…

        1. Agreed. We really don’t need any more 2D Mario games. As far as I care, New Super Mario Bros. For the DS was the only good one. The Wii one was ehh, it all just seems extremely rehashed.

    3. Well actually they still have smash brothers, but their real last chance is the Zelda game they are working on and well be shown at e3 I think now that all 3 systems are out this could be a redeeming year for nintendo

    4. More like 2014 is the last chance for Wii U. If DKC: TF, X, Bayonetta 2, MK8, Smash Bros, Zelda HD, Fire Emblem X SMT, Yoshi Land U, and maybe even Miyamoto’s new IP, if NONE of that helps then yeah…Wii U is dead.

      1. Your logic sucks. They designed Smash 3DS for single player with multiplayer tacked on. The Wii U version is HD, fully fledged online service, multiplayer experience with single player tacked on.

As far as I know, nobody buys smash for single player.

        1. What are you talking about, both games will have the same gameplay experience, the only differences are going to be exclusive stages, trophies and small things like that.

  1. I 100% agree Mario kart 8 is make or break for the Wii U

The 3ds will eat up the sales of smash bros. i expect at least 3:1

Nintendos biggest mistake was releasing Smash on 2 platforms.

    1. I disagree. I think the hardcore players who want Smash will get a Wii U for it even if they have a 3DS. In an age full of graphics-whores and online play, the Wii U version has way more appeal.

      1. To me the Wii U version has more appeal because my friends or roommates don’t need to have their own console to play with me. Local multiplayer is what it’s all about for me, and this way, I don’t have to expect everyone I might want to play with to own a 3DS.

      1. if they would have done that ignorant people would say how nintendo pretty much just copy and pasted the wii u version to the 3ds version. since they announced it at the beginning much less people are going to complain. Although, a lot of people think that they are going to release the wii u version earlier than the 3ds version

      1. If it ever gets finished – this is becoming the Nintendo version of Duke Nukem – I’m sick of seeing pic so the game – and it’s rumoured not to be complete in 2014 .. Which may be too late

    2. Not at all. People have been wanting a portable Smash when the DS came out. The fact the 3DS has the power and the install-base to make that happen is perfect, plus it keeps the 3DS’ momentum rolling.

Trust me, Smash on both will shift systems, but if Mario Kart 8 doesn’t pull a rabbit out of the hat, not much else is going to for Nintendo, and sadly (though we’d rather not admit it), that’s about the gist of things at present.

  2. How many US dollars is that roughly? I tried googling it and I got back about $331. But that’s weird because the Wii U is $299 here, so is it even more expensive than that in the UK?

  3. If the Wii U drops to under £200, I may be able to finally afford it. I missed the £180 at Argos and Amazon the other day unfortunately. However, if Nintendo cannot afford to drop the RRP like that then there’s no reason it should. No point selling more units but losing more money.

    1. Actually there would be a point in selling more units even if it costs them money, a vital, giant point. Nintendo doesn’t make its money from hardware sales, never have. They make it from software. If they get more people owning their hardware, then more people will but their software. Short term losses for long term gains: it’s what businesses do to make money.

      1. You need to check your facts dude, Nintendo has actually been the only one turning profit on its consoles. It is only with the Wii U and 3DS have they been making a loss

      2. Nintendo are already taking a loss on Wii U hardware sales. I question whether it’s smart to take an even bigger loss. And Nintendo did used to make their money on hardware sales as well as software sales. That changed with 3DS.

Sony and Microsoft have used this business model for their whole time in the gaming industry. Consequently Xbox 360 and PS3 despite both being ‘successful’ in terms of sales, failed to make any money (including software) for Sony and Microsoft. It’s tough for Nintendo to be competing against these two very bad business models because they have to compromise their business model of course. Ultimately though, they don’t have any other divisions in their company to save them – they have to make their money from gaming.

  4. You dronez dont read, he didn’t only say Mario kart! He also said a “sub 200 euro machine” meaning another price drop and dat won’t help either lolzzz its too late

  5. yeah of course wii u is going to fail and mario kart wont save it either. its to late to save this disaster and its all help from the nintendos biggest supporters who said everything was ok…. WELL ITS NOT HAHAHAHAH!! you guys were once again wrong and r.i.p wii u.

      1. And that’s the sad part, he is like one of those crazy-psyco-obsess-chick, the crazy type that says:
“If I can’t have you no one will.”
*takes out knife, laughs hehehe, stabs the guy, then cries*

Ice is a long time Nintendo fan, but he is not happy with Nintendo. so, now he wants them to fail.

  6. Well… then the Wii U is doomed, because I doubt Mario Kart will all of a sudden make the Wii U a must have product.

This is of course the logic of a UK retailer. I personally don’t think MK8 will revitalize life within the struggling
console, but I also don’t believe it is the last straw. I think Wii U can struggle another year and a half before it calls it quits.

    1. Good example of why Mario Kart is NOT Wii U’s last chance…. X, Miyamoto’s new IP, Third Sonic Exclusive (could be Adventure Battle 3), and that other third party exclusive that Nintendo has not yet revealed, Zelda U, and Hyrule Warriors(looks like it will be popular).

    2. It won’t save it, its too late to win fans back and not to mention smash on 3ds kills Wii U sales for it

    3. the wii u failing is the best thing to revive nintendo from the shithole that its been stuck in. why would you want weak gimmicked PRODUCTS with no games to sell?? (nothing but those same old franchises or crappy wii series games, instead of maybe having all those old franchises return with 3rd party) your saying its fine to have a crappy product?? isnt it better to finally have nintendo see how shitty they have become with all this wii gimmicky casual success. (or should i say one hit wonders and dust machines) maybe they can live in the year 2014 instead of living in 1999.

      # WIIsoldOUTonU for money showers and bitches.

  7. it is quite intersting

If this douches really read charts and reviews, they will see they are wrong on their “prediction”
First, the WiiU is not selling as expected, but if you see it, the WIiU is selling consistently, in other words, they are selling on an average rate.
By doing this, the sole fact is selling helps
and Second, the Ps3 and 3DS on their start were the same way WiiU is doing right now

    1. They are selling at a less than average rate, stop being a drone

      #DroneComfirned
      #Can’tAcceptWiiUsFate

      #WiiUExposed

      1. “oh man, you are so right, you changed my mind and i will not support Nintendo” said noone ever

also, they are selling around 20k-15k
        that’s pretty consistent

        1. You know, Portaldark’s supplemental replies actually makes icellama’s posts readable now!

The way he just puts him in his place with an appropriate degree of sarcasm and indifference… Entertainment.

    2. Is not as simple as selling by an average rate, their products don’t sell too much and occupy space that they may give to stuff that sells more. And sadly, this is not the start of the Wii U, its been out for more than a year now with no signs of improving. And as good as X or miyamoto’s new ip is, they usually don’t sell consoles, Mario kart does, Smash to a minor level does, if they dont sell consoles, the other games won’t either.

  8. i can’t hear the bullshit about the price cut anymore… sales stayed abysmal even though many retailers reduced the price of the wii u to sub 200€… a price cut won’t do anything

the PS3 was always more expensive than the xbox 360 and most multiplats didn’t even look as good on it yet it sold more units than the 360

    1. they still sell more than 10k weekly, that’s pretty decent compared to Ps3 sales on their start

  9. Could be a 50/50 with some of the games coming out this. If nothing changes anything for the Wii U this year, then it’s all over for the console

  10. Oh dear… I bet EAD, Retro, Monoloft Soft, HAL Labs, Intelligent Systems, etc are all crossing their fingers now… because if MK8 fails, I’m sure this UK retailer will call them up and tell them to cease all game projects immediately because it’s OVER.

    That’s gotta be rough…

  11. It amazes me how play station and xbox fanboys love to crowd the nintendo website. Also like they need to reassure themselves that they made a good choice by bashing the competition. If you can’t comprehend this May help

    1. it does help, but i find very entretaining how a “fanboy”, or whatever that kind of person is; tries to impose their opinion on others
it is very entretaining to see how they colossaly fail on that only for me to say “oh man, you are so right, you changed my mind and i will not support Nintendo”

      it sure entretains me

      1. hoever, i dont agree with the “#getalife”
I have a life but I enjoy watching chaos once in a while

        1. It’s more directed to people who don’t care about the news, who just camp comment sections to scream random non sense in hopes to destroy hope or put doubt in minds. Kinda how xbox did during wii u’s launch having representatives tell customers to wait for the new xbox rather than buy a wii u. So I direct them to do something else than spend time trying to do something so stupid and futile

        1. for some reason, i tend to put the r after and not before the e. Guess it could be that I type fast and i get it wrong everytime

  12. Nintendo need to sell a Wii U deluxe bundle with Mario Kart 8 for £200 in order to try and save it.
£200 for a Wii U, Gamepad and one of its biggest ever games would be amazing value money and definatley would help shift millions around the world!!!

    1. they NEED to make a bundle on day 1 for MK8
if you could get MK8 and the WIiU on day one surely will cover both sides, the current owners and the newcomers

      1. 100% agree. Would boost sales for wii u and for the game itself. I’m sure they already are looking into do that thou

      2. Not necessarily. If MK8 is the system seller, it doesn’t require a bundle. But if the buyer says “I want a Wii U for Mario Kart… but I could also play Wind Waker…” They can buy Zelda bundle AND Mario Kart.

    1. I do it for the 10% that actually has something useful to share which I think the 90% that cry out like a 9 yr old saying “nintendbabies” or childish things I can ignore. I’m used to ignoring children’s tantrums from all the xbox and playstation games I’ve played in the past

  13. WiiU has always been a fail !
Dont Know How nintendo CAN still try to sell this lame machine !
    So much defaults …
    WiiU is dead !
Long live to the Fusion !
    ( I hope !!! )

    1. “oh man, you are so right, you changed my mind and i will not support Nintendo” said noone ever

        1. “oh man, you are so right, you changed my mind and i will stop this cuz someone in the internet thinks Im annoying” said noone ever

  14. I think the person didn’t say Smash because most people on other systems are already looking forward to games like Ultra Street Fighter 4 and/or don’t know who almost any of the characters are, and Mario Kart Wii became one of the selling points of the Wii, not Brawl.

  15. I really love Nintendo but I hate this WiiU !!!
3DS is the best console today !
And WiiU clearly the worst …
I dont Know maybe It Will be a Nintendo Direct soon …
The 30 january meeting with investisors …

    1. “WiiU clearly the worst ”
Virtual Boy didnt sold 4.8m on its life span
or had more than 150 games for it

  16. lol. “Just wait till MK8, Smash, and Zelda”.

If your system is reliant on 3 FIRST PARTY games in order to make it successful, there’s a problem with the system.
Pikmin 3, Zelda WW HD and the new Mario were supposed to bring Wii U out of the depths of failure and they’ve only been mildly successful so far – so fanboys say “wait till this game!”. Then that game comes and doesn’t provide the expected results, it’ll be “wait till the next game”, until the system finally dies.

    1. agree on some, but those game DID helped a lot
thanks to Mario, the system start selling normally, not on big numbers of 200k/week, but the system is selling 20k-15k a week, making it a constant sell
it is true ppl say “After this game” blahblahbkla but look at Wii Party U
they boosted the sales extremly for some reason, big titles can do that as well

    2. It’s not about a game saving a system it’s about a library saving a system. 3ds had terrible games in beginning. In fact mine collected so much dust. But now the library of games is huge and now I can’t leave home without it again.

  17. Every time fucking iceazeama comes back the comment section is full of trolls! BAN HIM! NOW…. or else everybody will leave this site!

COME ON COMRADES TO NINTENDO LIFE!!!!!!

        1. on my defense, that site is very boring, commentaries are cool, and the template as well, but many time they do not cover news correctly
dont get me wrong,it’s cool, but i think MNN is better

    1. nobody is leaving, ppl actually enjoy the monumental tries to make a point(to which i dont know why he is being so bipolar recently)

  18. “…but it would need to be combined with a more mass market retail price.”

I never understand this rationale. When you are the least expensive option, how can you make the price of your product any more mass marketable?

    1. Just because it is the least expensive of the 3 doesn’t mean it has an appealing price point, especially when you take into consideration its other features and games (or lack thereof…).

  19. And we need more demoralising news do we?

Tell me, what’s this all proving? I personally do not understand why MK8 is the only last thing. 8th generation has only begun to be fairly honest.

You might as well say that PS Vita is on the way out as that’s not sold well and yet there is no bad news going ong with it.

People hate Nintendo and Wii U for no reason. 3rd party are to blame for not doing anything just as much as Nintendo themselves.

I’m simply stating facts than being a fan boy of which I am not.

    1. they are not demoralising
i see a good opportunity for N to shove their success on their faces on the next months

    2. Someone named “Itsamemario” saying that people are hating Wii U for no reason and stating that they aren’t a fanboy. LOL.

It is Nintendo’s responsibility to sell the system. If no one is buying the system, why should a third party developer make a game that they’ll lose money on?

  20. SICKR, WHY ON FUCKING EARTH IM HAVING AN ADD OF “HOMELESS” PPL ON THE RIGHT?
    IT’S FUCKING ANNOYING

      1. nvm, Adblock + ftw
i dont care about “revenue” shit as this site gets enough hits without the ads already

        1. Yeah, clearly we should get everything for free when we want it and how we want it. Terrible logic, btw. It’s akin to “everyone will vote for that singer on Idol so I won’t vote”, and then other people think the same thing, so the person gets the least amount of votes, everyone bitches about “how could this happen, they’re amazing”, and they only have themselves to blame. But sure, don’t care about how you’re able to get so much content for free and theorize exactly how well ads do by pulling words out of your ass.

          1. the logic is a bit fucked up, but god, noone on earth really clicks on advert
only drones that are on those “we pay you to click on ads” sites

  21. Please stop posting these articles lol. These “last chance for Wii U” articles are getting old.

    1. news, positive or negative ones MUST BE POSTED
or else, we would be extremist(im not editor, im speaking of all of us)

      1. Yeah but what he is saying is that there is so much bad publicity surrounding the console that it’s so very boring to just read.

Yes it’s fine to see bad news, but there is just too much bad news.

It’s not improving anything and with Nintendo trying to fix things.

      2. I just think it’s stupid seeing all of those “end for Nintendo” articles. we all know its not the end just because they aren’t selling as good yet.

  22. iceazeama yes baby yes

I LOVE WHEN YOU MAKE A RANT ABOUT GAYTENDO AND THEY WEAK U GIMMICK ,I LIKE THE SEXY LOOK ON YOUR FACE WHILE TYPING YOUR POST WHILE I HAD A PS MOVE CONTROLLER VIBRATING WHILE ITS SHOVED UP YOUR TINY LIL WHITE BUTT SHAKE THAT BOOTY ICEAZEAMA TWERK FOR ME BOY

  23. MK8 Smash Bros and Zelda U Are the Key components.

And if Miyamoto decides to make this second 3D Mario game (for Wii U)
like how he talks about he isn’t finished with Mario Galaxy (Although I would prefer a newer title) then that will also increase some chances.

  24. Another thing, Wii U won’t do any better over night with a price drop. The company is already losing money. All you idiots saying it’s needs a price drop need to actually stop typing an think about what you’re saying.

    A price drop is not a solution…..

Excuse them for trying to be different.

  25. yeep, but not only for the uk, its for the hole existing of the U.
smash bros has a litle fan base and also zelda. booth of these games cant help the U (exept zelda has a great story telling incl. a great story like tlou or metal gear, but im shore thats impossible).
i hope mk8 has something new… not just another mk with new tracks.
i hope its realy getting more like the snes version. faster, harder that you need skills to drive and not luck to win.
a great multiplayer and a awesome online modes.

  26. “smash bros has a litle fan base and also zelda. booth of these games cant help the U”

O.o eh what? They’ve got huge fan bases!!!!

    1. there is a fanbase…
but its no so big, that the game would help the U.
take a look how much the sale.
mk vs smash bros on the wii.
mk is also for casuals, smash bros not realy.

      1. You’re kidding me right? You may as well say CoD has got a bigger fan base. Something that’s gotten re-done so much.

What you don’t realise is that Nintendo design their games so that anyone can play them, regardless of age.

        1. worldwide sales on wii
          mario kart 34 millions units
          smash bros 12 millions units.

nintendo must sales a lot from the U.
when this happens, third parties would come back.

          1. I can see your point, but 3rd party don’t want to change the way they program their games, which only adds more frustration.

            1. is it realy so hard to program for the U?
i thought its not that difficult.
oh man… when there is no support with 3th parties… good night U.
i knew to persones they dident buy a U because there is no Fifa.

              1. It’s supposed to be easier as the coding is small. I’ve seen examples of PowerPC coding, and I kid you not, it’s literally like abbreviations.

E.g. rwts could be something like read write then store. It’s just like that.

With Wii U you can program the game so that it can run faster. With X1 and PS4 you cannot really do that.

  27. There is no way that Nintendo would just drop their console. Lots of their main stream stuff is yet to come, and dropping Wii U would damage their reputation like there is no tomorrow.

    I blame the following:
    1) Bad marketing
    2) 3rd party for not wanting to do stuff for the console. They cannot just expect Nintendo to do everything – that’s plain stupid, call me stupid to say that, but I know what I am talking about. EA have probably done the most damage.

    1. 3DS was in the EXACT same state and they turned that around. If Nintendo can do it with a handheld, then they can do it again.

I think it’s very silly to think otherwise.

    2. “call me stupid to say that,”

      You’re stupid.

” but I know what I am talking about.”

      No you don’t.

There is no incentive for a company to make a game for system when they know 1) They wouldn’t make enough money from that system, 2) It will sell much better on another system and 3) They will need to spend even more time on it because it has the gamepad which requires them to differentiate it from the other versions.

  28. The thing is – ok The UK may be the worst territory for the WiiU . But that’s not surprising considering nintendo not changing it’s strategy , such as :

Nintendo first party games NEVER go down in price – no matter how long they have been out £49.99 for new super mario bros U – now a year old .. Xbox 360 and ps3 games get a price cut eventually but you never see a year old game being the same price as it’s release.
2 – how long does it take to emulate games – they have a vast range of virtual console games … And we are lucky to get ONE a week … Not one per system (nes / snes) but ONE ….
    3 – nintendo 64 virtual games – still not happening ???
4 – nintendo TVii still not supported
5 – there eshop disasters … Let’s talk about Xmas 2013 … all those people who couldn’t download their bundled game ..

They really need to change their ball game , all this talk about a next gen console for nintendo ..
I’m no genius but I can advise them to FORGET THAT …

  29. Suffice to say this is about the long-and-short of it all. If Mario Kart 8 doesn’t get the desired response, then it’s not looking great for Wii U on the whole. However, Mario Kart is a massive system-seller, and all Nintendo have to do is market the complete package. If they get that right, and swallow some pride with a price-cut along the way for the bundle, they will be quids in, of that I have no doubt.

For us, the Nintendo connoisseurs, we know there are a couple more key titles coming out this year, but in effect, 2014 will make or break the Wii U. Let’s hope it makes the system. It deserves more than it gets.

    1. if 2014 dosent work for Big n with mk8
it will be more worst than the ngc console. they ngc was with the snes, the best console ever.
we will never get (as gamer) such a good line up with games then these two. the ngc has a good line up for adults, thats never was on wii or n64, and maybe not at all for the U.
ngc games like… resident evil remake, resi 4, metal gear solid twin snakes (best metal gear ever), eternal darkness, twilight princess, metroid prime, f zero, star fox adventure, killer 7…
im sad (still waiting for sadness ;-) ),
that there is no more a company like rare for nintendo… nintendo makes the kiddie games and rare the addult ones.
      monolith is not that good.
and where is sikicin knights :-(
