Mario Game Apps Appearing On Smartphones In China

Nintendo has yet top embrace mobile, but that hasn’t stopped other developers from using Nintendo IP’s in China. A game titled Super Mario is currently available on smartphones in China which is a clone of previous Mario titles. Another title called Super Mario Quiz asks mobile users to take a multiple choice test to identify characters called Baby Donkey Kong and Corporal Paraplonk. Nintendo says its legal team is investigating.

“Misappropriation of intellectual property is hard to prevent in China,” Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles, said by email. Nintendo “should be exploiting their IP on their own instead of letting others do so.”

    1. just because you WANT to play nintendo games on your smartphone doesn’t mean they NEED to put their games out there. smartphones are ruining square enix, and they’ll ruin nintendo too

      1. No, SE’s own greed is ruining them, you DONT have to add micro transactions to your games, let alone the kind that SE is adding.

      2. I wouldn’t be playing them anyway…..

I don’t play games on my phone….only console games. I don’t even do digital. Still, it’ll be good for publicity…

      1. They lift the ban on gaming in China and this is how they thank us? by ripping off Nintendo? what about ripping off Sony? huh? Nintendo has all the rights to sue, sue them to kingdom come, sue them for Donkey Kong!!!

        1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

High Command stretched out a hand, they didn’t care…

I hope we abandon that pathetic thief empire…

    2. The question is how much money are these cloned games raking-in? If free, how much downloads/marketshare?
I bet the revenue is very low compared to Nintendo’s gross revenue and the download count is not even near flappy bird level. If they enter mobile gaming, it would lower their consoles’ value ($$ loss) while only bringing it chump-change.

      1. The money is definitely small, I won’t disagree on that point. Still, I think entering the Smartphone market is good for publicity. A little publicity can really go a long way. People are always on their phones and if they get a good impression of Nintendo through those games, Nintendo will have a good chance to increase their overall audience

  1. I wouldn’t shed a tear if Pachter disappeared. He’s seriously a blight on the gaming community and the sooner he’s replaced or silenced, the better off all the companies fooled into listening to him will be.

      1. Meanwhile we haven’t heard from ol’ Patchy in a while, probably will in o while soon, any day he will be be back, it will be sent in by the troll (you know who) and it will spark a flame war like always… Sigh this is becoming too repetitive

    1. Dear Eric,
The sooner you begin seriously contemplating my financial appraisals of the top companies in the market, the sooner you can begin to turn a profit of your own. It’s not just about buying low and selling high, as a consumer, you have a right to be informed and so that you can make the best choice for how to spend your revenue. If I were you, I’d start investing and become a shareholder, that way you could begin to play a role in some of the decisions a company makes. If you want to run with the big dogs, you need to put the necessary capital where your pizza consuming orifice is, and stop mashing the keys thinking it will change the world. As I say, ‘if you wanna’ rock with the pach, you must acquire stocks.’ Good day, and spend wisely.

  2. “Mr. Pachter, could you please comment on Chinese game makers illegally using Nintendo’s IP?”

    Pachter: “Nintendo should go mobile.”

  3. CHINA!!!!!! well anyway themost Nintendo can do on smartphones is release a miiverese..APP. and those things. I mean how many people would type miiverse into the browser if they could use the app!

  4. SherlockWillFightBilbo

He’s saying if Nintendo took advantage of the mobile market, fake games wouldn’t have as big an impact. When Flappy Bird was still on the App Store, no one bothered getting a copy. But when it was taken off, people started getting the fakes.

  5. dear pachter Nintendo was around long b4 u were pissing in pampers and they will be around long after your rotting in the ground so I dont think they need your input for anything. you have proven your bias already so buzz off and let them do what they do best and that is create AAA games that u want to play but never will becuz they wont be released on your pathetic smartphones.
