Japanese Charts: New Nintendo 3DS & LL Sells 234k, Wii U Sells 6k

This week’s Media Create sales are now in from Japan. As expected Monster Hunter 4G – or Monster Hunter Ultimate as it’s known in the west – has soared to victory, pulling in just short of 1.5 million copies. Earlier, Capcom announced in a statement to the press that the action RPG has surpassed 2 million copies for shipment in the region, which includes downloadable sales via the eShop. An unsurprising chart topping position for Monster Hunter 4G, while Super Smash Bros drops into second with a further 76k in sales.

The New Nintendo 3DS and LL models, released in Japan last weekend, have sold a total of 234k in units. As we reported earlier today, sales of the New Nintendo 3DS LL were almost three times larger than the standard new model according to Famitsu sales tracker data. Media Create records the standard New Nintendo 3DS at 70k compared to 164k for the LL.

Despite the new models launching, Nintendo 3DS & LL sales were boosted slightly to 27k in comparison to last week’s figures, while the Wii U steadily declines to 6k. You can view the top 20 software and hardware Japanese charts below.

  1. The 3DS line Canibalized each and every console out. It’s nice to see that the Original 3DS and 3DSLL sold well as always too.

    F=ma.

        1. actually, the exact equation was F= d(mv)/dt. meaning that force is equal to the change in momentum with respect to time. it’s only when mass is constant that the equation becomes F=mdv/dt, but since dv/dt is equal to acceleration the equation then simplifies to F=ma

so, anonymous is correct. F=ma is not the actual formula that Newton derived, but rather a simplified equation.

            1. Haha, I take no issue with Isaac Newton using the simplified expression to sign off on his comments. Apparently anonymous does, but not I.

I just wanted to clarify what anonymous meant by saying it was not the actual equation. Not to defend him, mind you, I think he’s rude, but just to clear up things about the equation itself.

    1. It’s an ARPG, as in Action RPG. Great game, Nintendo needs to purchase Capcom, or at the least Monster hunter, street fighter and resident evil IPs.

        1. My first MH game was Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U. And it was one of the first games that I wanted on that system.

I’m officially a fan at this point. Because not only have I put in 260+ hours into the game, I’ve already had the Collector’s Edition of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate pre-ordered.

      1. It has little to none RPG elements in it. Then again mass effect and Fallout qualify as RPG’s as well so fuck it, why not.

  2. Xbox One – 809 (1,062)
    PlayStation Vita TV – 737 (922)
    Xbox 360 – 97 (80)
    PSP – 67 (84)
Nintendo Commander Quadraxis the destruction of the abominations known as Xbox line is well in advanced stages witness below :

    Also above :
Last week above 1000, this weak in triple digit lair for the xboxone.

      1. And still it sells more world wide each month than the wii u. It is only an laughing stock in japan. In the rest of the world it is doing pretty good.

        1. And wii u sells more than 809 units. also where are the exact number of xdoomed units sold? uh, yes microfuck keeps saying 5 million of units shipped to retailers.

        2. In France and Germany, the two biggest video game markets in Europe now, it sells more than the xbone. With a better library of hits, it is now a PS4 vs WiiU market.

        3. “sells more world wide each month than the wii u”

Mircosoft has never released a sales number in months obviously meaning its doing bad because they are know to do that when something is doing bad. Last time we got a number was 5 million shipped, SHIPPED, not sold, SHIPPED. So your argument is moot and until proven otherwise.

        4. This statement is factually incorrect. The XBore has not outsold the Wii U every month.

Check your facts first before making stupid comments. The Wii U outsold XBore in June, July, August and I think May this year.

          1. It is very hard to look for worldwide sales, but if you look at the 2 large markets the usa and uk. You can see that the xbox one sells a lot better. In the next npd you will see.

In September the xbox was released in a lot more markets. This will increase the sells. In china alone they almost sold 100 thousand units.
            The xbox is doing good.

Xbox one has never done very well in japan and that some people call it a laughing stock. It is still doing better that the xbox 360 in the first year.
What will you people call a wii u then, a disaster

      2. How? If anything it’ll right behind the Wii U, a console that launched over a year before it. It might be doing bad in Japan but thats it. Its placing 2nd in many other places, if anything, the Wii U (in terms of sold units) is the laughing stock of this home console generation, the Vita taking the cake for mobile consoles.

    1. Why are you selecting two consoles which in its line of consoles have never done well in Japan, a handheld that was from last generation, and PS VITA TV? What ya smokin’ bro?

  3. why isn’t there crossplay between the 3ds and wii u?!? It would make the home console bigger in terms of value. 3ds fans would love it. sure you wouldn’t need it when you’re out but when you get home wouldn’t it be nice to play on a bigger screen? MAKE IT HAPPEN!

    1. I think it has to do with the 3ds hardware being much more different than the wiiu but there is advantages of not having crossplay.

  4. I’m glad that Nintendo is supporting the Wii U and trying to boost sales instead of focusing their development and efforts on other endeavors.

    Oh wait.

(And saying that “Smash is coming!” and a few other first party games over the next 6 months doesn’t count).

  5. Nintendo is My Blood Reborn

The guy in charge of marketing the Xbox One:
“Hey guys, let’s once again try and salvage Japan markets with the Xbox One despite it having alot of negative reception what with the DRM incident, the Kinect incident and the fact it came out much later than it’s competition not to mention how it’s predecessor failed miserably so I have a good feeling about this one”

A logical person: “Are you fucking stupid?”

Phil Spencer: “OMG, THAT IS A BRILLIANT IDEA, HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY FAIL!?”

      1. Nintendo is My Blood Reborn

I know you aren’t the real Obinna but you frighteningly impersonate him well.

But let’s look at numbers (which I know Obinna is bad at among other things)

Wii U-6309 (And it has been on the market for 2 years)
Xbox One-809 (And it has been out for what, a month?)

        1. and i still say they’re the guys of the stupid church of sasori making fun of him. Again, they said they would kill the clown because he flip fapped and enjoys cod on Wii U

        2. Yes but the xbox have never done well in japan. Even when you compare the 2, that doesn’t make the wii u sells good.

All consoles do not sell that good in japan. Japan has become a portable only market, maybe smash wii u can do something about it.

  6. Nice to see that the 3DS family got a nice boost to put in even further ahead of any near competition. But look at Wii U sales. Seriously, 6K? How is this even excusable Nintendo? PS4 landed two new games of Driveclub and more importantly FIFA 15 and sold about 12K PS4 hardware units. That’s double the Wii U this month! Did Nintendo not advertise Bayonetta 2 at all in that region or something? What the hell is wrong with Japanese gamers that they let a great game like Bayonetta 2 slip through the cracks as they play the same old games that come out every year and mobile games? Forget Japanese gamers….

    1. Because Fifa is doing insanely well outside of Japan, dumbass, while Bayo 2 will probably flop in Europe and NA too.

        1. lol. “kid”.

Ok, dude. If you wanna just talk about the present, Fifa is still kicking ass outside Japan, so your original comment is still idiotic. Regardless, if you take into account sales of Bayo 2 in Japan, sales of the first Bayonetta worldwide, and sales of Wii U consoles, it’s not hard to theorize that sales for the rest of the world for Bayo 2 will be underwhelming.

    2. well it was kind of to be expected that bayonetta 2 wouldn’t amount to a big success in japan.. the first part didn’t either

        1. You’d make a great politician given your knack for putting a spin on the numbers and not taking into account the rest of the facts. Also, this is the first week of sales for Fifa and combined they almost amount to the total sales of Bayonetta 2 so far, which has been out for weeks now.
          Keep drinking the kool-aid though.

  8. I would say that I’m surprised the New 3DS was able to sell that many units.

But, I’m not. This is Japan we’re looking at.

  9. Holy shiz, man! That’s a lot of sales! It’s insane how much support Monster Hunter gets over there. It’s a great game series, but still.

  10. These are really good 3ds sales numbers for Nintendo. You couldn’t really ask for much better. The fact that even selling 230,000 in a weekend did not impact the sale of the older model is very surprising. I really believe the 3ds family could potentially reach 100 million in sales. That would be an epic win for Nintendo. Nintendo will make more money off of thier 3ds family than Microsoft and Sony make off of thier Consoles combined.

  11. Those Wii U numbers those… ouch.

You know, this is lesson learned for Nintendo. They released the Wii U too early. It’s as simple as that. They didn’t have enough games at launch, and now for the last two years they have been playing catch up. The gap inbetween first party games is too big. If they could have built up a backlog of games before releasing the Wii U, they could have avoided this problem. I love my Wii U, don’t get me wrong here, but to truly enjoy this generation of games two home consoles are needed.

      1. If they were unprepared, they shouldn’t have released it when they did. Hence, too early. When you release a console without any games for the first year, especially any games that don’t sell you on why you should want the GamePad and the console in general, it’s too early.

  12. It doesn’t surprise me to see such low Wii U sales. My Wii U was sitting and collecting dust for months, until I got Hyrule Warriors. Well, except for using the Internet Browser.

  13. I love using my gamepad to stream youtube videos on my T.V. It’s one of my favorite features on the Wii U.

If Nintendo can really put out one game every month in 2015, I think they will finally be where they need to be. Where they should have been since day one. But yea, I think Commander is right, Nintendo didn’t think they were unprepared. They thought the popularity of the Wii would sale the Wii u. Who needs games we got name reconition… sad but true..

Even look back to the original Wii launch. They had Zelda Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime, and Mario Galaxy. Not to mention Wii Sports. Holy shit what a launch line-up. Imagine if the Wii U had those type of launch games. We wouldn’t be having this conversation thats for sure.

  14. Wow so sad Wii u sales is losing to PS4 in Japan, worldwide is confirming Wii u is a disappointing console to own.

    1. The disappointment isn’t because of the Wii U’s abilities. It’s the fault of nearly all third-party companies refusing to support the Wii U. Would the PS4 and Xbone be doing good if third-party companies abandoned them? Nope.

  15. Do you own a Wii U? If so are you disappointed with it? Becouse sales numbers have nothing to do with being disappointed with a console. I quite enjoy my Wii U, and as of right now it gets more play time than my Ps4.

Nintendo botched the launch of the Wii U, but have pretty much turned it around now. If Nintendo can really release a game every month from now on, I’d say the future looks pretty bright for Nintendo fans.

    1. Nintendo could never release a new Wii U game every month. Unless it’s some sort of casual, stupid eShop game. Which I don’t even consider games.

  16. Well that’s the rumor. And it’s from a credible source too. So far Hyrule Warrior in Sept., Bayonetta in Oct., Smash in Nov., and Captain Toad in Dec…. That’s four out of four, so I wouldn’t say it can’t be done. I believe Splatoon and Mario Maker is supposed to be early 2015, so that could easily round out January and Febuary… Plus Zelda, Star Fox, and Xenoblade already confirmed 2015 releases. Hell, that’s half the year right there. And those are just the games we know about.

  17. I have officially given up on the Japanese market when it comes to the Wii U. I can’t believe I have to actually agree with Shuhei, but with this generation, the Japanese market really is irrelevant for the most part when it comes to console sales.

Nintendo & Koei Tecmo will be fucking idiots if they don’t release Fatal Frame 5 outside of Japan.
