Standard New Nintendo 3DS potential buyers will be pleased as Nintendo of Japan has just tweeted an image of a stunning new Legend of Zelda faceplate for the handheld. There’s no word as to whether this will come to the west, but it seems likely. It’s coming to Japan on April 2nd.

They don’t release many faceplates for the White 3DS and I honestly think more people have the white one because they were enticed by its SNESyness

Well, you have to keep in mind that the new 3DS is out already in Japan, whereas there’s still a couple of days to go in the West. It’s only natural for them to get all the faceplates and stuff earlier. These might very well come to the West too, once the system is out.
NOA please bring the new nintendo 3ds to the USA I need these zelda faceplates. I want something I can just side in my pocket. The xl is kinda big….

I can understand the disappointment but funny thing is before the XL came out all men whined about the 3DS being too tiny for their apparently humongous hands. Then the XL came out and everybody loved it. Years later this happened and people only want those faceplates just ’cause they look cool.
Idiots don’t even realize official cases, skins and faceplates have been made for the XL and lots of other DS systems for ages, some only come out in Japan but we’re all using the internet, just order away. Surely the new XL will also get some faceplates later on, you just don’t have to screw them onto the system and shit. Who wants to do that? Not me. I’m buying the new XL either way because why downgrade to a smaller screen and lose gaming experience.
The New XL doesn’t feature interchangeable face plates. Ironically, that is exclusive to the normal sized 3DS..

It’s bigger than the smaller one, and smaller than the first edition 3ds XL. The argument that nobody was interested in the first edition smaller version doesn’t hold up as there are many differences between the two. Those differences are what attracted potential buyers, so of course many Americans, including myself, will feel down about it. But feel free to talk down about a whole entire country if it makes you yourself feel better about everything. I know, for the most part America does get many great things, and sometimes other countries can’t say the same, but in this case the vice versa happens, and maybe that makes it seem like we are ‘spoiled’, but again when it’s something you wanted why is it not right to be sad about missing out on it?

How is preferring a different version of a system being spoiled? I’ve been hyped up for the standard version since it was announced. I have an XL but I wanted the standard version this time because of the faceplates and the smaller size. (I started getting tired of how large my XL was) And I’m getting tired of people defending Nintendo’s decision not to bring it over here. Just because you prefer the XL does NOT mean that others shouldn’t be able to get the standard version. Stop with this nonsense.

Wow. I love the one on the right, I don’t even like the new MM bundle but that one looks awesome. Triforce looks so good. I wouldn’t mind trading in my ALBW for that instead, if it were an XL.
I don’t think the US will ever get this 3DS tbh, they pretty much made that clear by solely releasing the XL…if they do however…probably in like a year later or two, who knows.
So sad, I only have the normal 3Ds because my hands are small and felt a lot more comfortable holding it than an XL. I really would have loved to get one of these, given the opportunity…oh well…:(

Honestly, no. Realistically, yes as it makes the standard more attractive to consumers. The bonus about faceplates is that you don’t have to bother with shady hard or soft decorative covers unless there is a design not available that you want.
Yes, there is. The 3ds XL doesn’t get faceplated because Nintendo is constantly making “special edition” models of the 3ds. Who would buy the new Pokemon 3ds LE model if they could just get faceplates? You see, Nintendo tries not to make a habit out of competing with itself. That is why you never see special edition “regular sized” 3ds’s, and why the 3ds XL does not have faceplates. Business 101…
In short, Nintendo makes alot of money off of their Special Edition 3DS XL’s. Why would they compromise that success by introducing faceplates? It would be absolutely ridiculous and borderline insane….. from a business point of view that is…

Maybe try play-asia.com? I personally haven’t ordered anything from there before, so I can’t tell you how good/bad they are based on personal experience, but considering it’s a quite known website, it can’t be all that bad, I’d say. :)
The regular sized 3ds with or without faceplates is a downgrade from the XL. People always want what they can’t have. If it was available in the U.S. it would sale like dirt. Be happy with the larger, better version of the 3ds, the XL.

The problem with that though is region lock. Unless you plan on also importing all of your games from Japan as well, you won’t be able to play anything on it.

I’ve actually owned the DS phat, DS, DS Lite …but no DS i , the 3DS and the 3DS XL. I can honestly say that the added real estate is a huge plus…do the pixels look blown up…kinda …but not really…you get used to it…but you don’t have to squint and there is no eye strain. Yes, the system won’t fit in you pockets, unless you wear cargo pants….However, having said this I gladly traded in 3DS XL for the NEW 3DS XL ($100 promotional at Gamestop)…I have always been a sucker for 3D, but at least now with the head tracking tech, I don’t have to go cross-eyed just trying to hit the sweet spot…I tried to play Luigis Mansion on the original 3DS XL ..and there is terrible ghosting (no pun intended)…this new 3DS should have been the system that Nintendo originally intended to sell.
I’m really sad about not having the standard size New 3DS in America. I like big screens and all, but I also like my handheld gaming system to fit in my pocket. Not to mention, I am a sucker for decoration and these faceplates would be everything for me. My month, I can have a gorgeous Majora’s Mask 3DS, and the next month I can have a cute wooden Kirby 3DS.
I am so damn upset about this Nintendo of America. TT.TT
