Sounds like some of you were lucky enough to score a Gold Mario amiibo which was exclusive to Walmart in the United States. We weren’t entirely sure how it interacted with the recently released Mario Party 10. Thankfully, a Reddit user has tested out the luxurious Gold Mario with Mario Party 10 and you can read Fergood‘s findings below.
Well I was lucky enough to score a golden mario at my local walmart this morning. I decided to try a little Mario Party 10 so I used my Gold mario and in the amiibo game type I noticed that there was a “set up” section which let you equip a token. I was surprised to see a “Gold” token already unlocked. It says it’s unlocked for unlocking all other gold tokens, but I was playing the game for the first time so I was a bit confused for a second, then I realized maybe it was for having gold mario?
So I reloaded it with normal Mario and no gold token on that amiibo unlocked. So it must be because of the golden Mario. I linked an album below which shows what happens when you use the token in game. :)! (Sorry for the quality my phone camera is on the fritz so I had to use my tablet).
Thanks, MasterPikachu6

so 1000 in one continent are able to get this perk… nice
1000 people*
All 3 of my walmarts sold out of ALL of them by 9 am… 3 WALMARTS…BY 9AM!! And I don’t really live in a city where there are Nintendo enthusiasts.
There were probably only like 2 per store… Stupid Nintendo-understocking logic.
I didn’t even see the bar code/ listing for the amiibo or the game!
They come in 4 packs when they come. I check Amiibos in when they come in.
So you work at WM in the stocking area?
What’s the point if no one can even get these amiibo… fuck Walmart
F*** Nintendo, you mean.
No. Walmart handled Gold Mario amiibo distribution like pure shit. Though yes, it is partially Nintendo’s fault
While I agree with you on Walmart, Nintendo primarily triggered all this mess. Heck, they implemented microtransitions disguised as toys and constrained their offer, overlooking the immense consumers demand!
Now we are facing a shady situation in which you need a stupid toy to fully experience a game which costs $ 60.00.
What kind of fanservice is this? Nintendo just hit the rock bottom with this atrocious amiibo policy.
I’m done with amiibos, but I’m sorry for those who want them.
You don’t need them. They’re an added perk. Complain all you want that you won’t have them all, but that’s just the way it has to be.
First of all, you’re completely right. I myself really don’t need any amiibo. Could not care less. But there are people out there who are eager to put their hands on them.
Second, while I don’t care about amiibos, I really care about Nintendo. I always try to see the big picture, and what I see is Nintendo taking the wrong path lately. They are getting nothing but a negative image with the stupid moves they’ve been doing since Yamauchi left the company.
Isn’t that the basic mentality of microtransactions? Why do I see Nintendo fanboys crying about those, but not saying anything about amiibo? Oh yeah fanboy logic. I forgot about that
I’ll just stick with my old Mario Party games… man… I don’t think Nintendo will be as great as it was when I was younger… they just messed up with the Wii U, no damage controlling that…
agreed, Mario party hasn’t been the same since 5 in my opinion, the chase the star method was the best and still is..
The Wii U is Nintendo’s best console, go back to your Mountain Dew and Doritos.
What are you smoking son? And don’t talk shit because I only own Nintendo consoles and PC. And Wii U is definitely not Nintendo’s best console at all.
probably less, since I ended up picking up 6 gold marios :)
Things cost more then a ps4 and xb1 together.
Still doesn’t make this game worth buying.
So I tried Mario Party 10 tonight with my friend today… Amiibo Party was pretty bad and pretty much played itself. Bowser Party is a fun concept thay I really, REALLY want to like– but it was stupidly unbalanced. The core Mario Party mode is pretty fun I guess, fixes some things that was wrong with Mario Party 9… But I still hate the car mechanic.
In the end, we loaded up Mario Party 2 instead. Much more fun was had.
And me…
It was a tricky one, but a prize I managed to secure
Yaaay the creature is back!
Do I… know you urchin?
On second thought, nevermind, I don’t care
You’re not supposed to…
As a matter of fact you do… Stalker
Oh…
Must have forgotten about you, I tend to not remember insignificant things…
</3
Oh no, your back. Sickr babe…help me! :'(
je souhaite avoir une version authentique
Amiibo Hunting Day successful! I’ll enjoy being able to use the words “complete set” for a whole three weeks before they release more!

And here I am, chilling… With one amiibo lol
Very pleased to say it hasn’t been a headache to make sure I can get all the Mario Party 10 Amiibo. As long as I have a successful adventure to Wal-Mart for Gold Mario, it actually seems pretty easy to get them all this time around.
Went to Wal-Mart this afternoon, guy said they had 8 Golden Marios, even set them aside and told me I could come back at midnight to get one. Left, came back at midnight, none of the same people were still working there, they couldn’t find where he put them after 20 minutes of searching, and told me to come back in seven hours when he’s back. At least they promised to hold one for me because I was there at midnight, but wow.
Wal-Mart has possibly the worst customer service I’ve seen in ages. I got my Golden Mario, but it took three stores to get one. The store that actually sold it to me had me wait seven hours for the manager to come into work because only the manager knew where they were. The other two both had the exact same story: “We have it in-stock, but we can’t sell it to you because we don’t know where it is.” I’ve never heard a store clerk say they outright couldn’t find their merchandise before in my life, so I called for the manager and she also said she couldn’t find them. I should also mention that one of the two stores that told me they couldn’t find their stock actually lied to me and told me they sold out before I pressed them on knowing they had some. Best part? When I called for the manager, she also lied saying they sold them all before eventually admitting she just couldn’t find them.
Been awake for 21 hours in the name of Amiibo hunting through the night. Got what I wanted. Going out again in two hours to hopefully score another for a friend.
I’m talking about the Gold Mario Amiibo of course.
I left a comment and it didn’t post…
Are you not allowed to post pictures anymore? If so that’s incredibly stupid and makes the comment section pretty boring.
You can but it only works on certain types of URLs.
Aww man lol that stinks I feel like there’s been a lot of changes to the messaging system and stuff and I haven’t paid much attention lately thanks for letting me know though
My local Walmart got 12 of them, I got there at 11pm and was the first person waiting for one. By 12 there were 5 others waiting with me. So, 6 of us total got them and that left 6 for other people to come purchase. I asked if since there was enough to go around for us waiting in line if I could buy a second one and they told me no, it was 1 per person. But if I came back later and they were still there I could buy as many as I wanted (since it was an exclusive they wanted to give people a fair chance to buy them first, which I totally understand and didn’t throw a fuss about). I got one and I’m happy.
Holy crap, 3 cases then. Must be a larger Wal-Mart.
This just makes it worse for people that couldn’t get one. Why would they do that?
I read up beforehand about the midnight release, 2 per customer, etc etc. I went about 11:30 in case there was a line. When I arrived there was nobody around, customers or employees. No organization whatsoever. At that point I was just hoping they had them. Finally found an employee, asked about the amiibos and was told they had 2 left. Asked the guy how they only had 2 left when it wasnt midnight yet and he looked confused and was completely obluvious to the fact that these were anything special to anyone. He said some girl came in about 9 and bought 8 of them. I bought the last 2 and MP10. Glad I got what I wanted. Would have been really pissed to show up at midnight and found they’d all been sold though.
Welcome to the Nintendo world of microtransitions!
*Iwata grabs popcorn anh laughs like Bowser*
Got to Walmart at 10. Was never planning on buying mario party 10 just wanted the gold mario since I had the other retail exclusives. Someone was already waiting there. They had been there since 8:30. We waited and more people showed up. Someone found the sku number online and asked an associate to make sure they had them and that other people who showed up were not wasting their time. Associate said they could not because it was not scanned in off the the truck yet. Waited longer watched associate unpack other stuff in electronics department hoping he would get to the box of gold Marios. At 12:01 we asked about them again and he said there was nothing in the managers office. We waited and asked to speak to the manager. Manager came back and finally looked up the sku and the number 6 popped up, still confused on how they tell if they actually have something in stock or not but it appeared they should have had 6. Manager went in the back with another associate to look and even check with distribution to see if it was coming on a later truck. Could not find the box of them or anything related to mario party 10 for that matter. Left around 12:45 without so much as a toad(I do have captain toad). They said we could call throughout the day to see if they were getting them but I work a 9-5 job so I stopped in before work and after work. Sure enough they were sold while I was at work. In the future I hope nintendo does not do anymore exclusives with Walmart. They clearly can’t handle informing their employees of these exclusives. I feel the employees did everything they could they just did not have the support from corporate.
On a brighter note, everyone there before midnight were actually there to purchase one for themselves. Scalpers and hoarders didn’t show up until after midnight.
I was able to snag a Gold Mario only by luck, our local walmart got 4. I got the last one, and ill never open it!!!! Mwahahaha!
Nice. Hahaha.
It was total luck, I didnt even know that walmart had them yet. I saw a guy I kinda know who works at a GameStop hanging around, I put two and two together and figured he was getting something here that he couldn’t get at work. All four sold within the same 5 minute period.

Neither of my Wal-Mart stores had ANY of the Super Mario series amiibos when I went there yesterday. So I don’t know if they’ll have the gold Mario amiibo or what?
Sometimes I’m glad I live in Maine, they had a whole shelf of him. I decided I HAD to open him and then saw the token to make him gold. It really is aesthetic, there’s no benefit to it. It’s just a cool perk. So really it’s hardly any different from the regular Mario, it just can turn gold so people can brag. If you didn’t get one, well… it’s not much you’re missing out on.
