Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Producer Says It Was Very Challenging To Add “Fire Emblem” Aspect

Traduko has a translated interview with Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem producer Shinjiro Takada. The enlightening interview reveals that Atlus found it initially difficult to work in the Fire Emblem aspect into the game, but are currently pleased with the development team’s work. Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will be launching in Japan this fall on the Wii U.

“This is the result of our collaboration work on the “Fire Emblem” series. I think many people will find it quite different than they had originally expected. Originally, it was very challenging for us to get the “Fire Emblem” aspect into the game, but we worked carefully with Nintendo to ensure it’d work well and deliver the feeling you get from the series.
But, “as long as development of this title conforms with what Intelligent Systems originally would have wanted, and ATLUS develops it and triumphs through it, then ATLUS’ work is good.”

“It was following that that we were able to come to our conclusion and settle on the concept for this project. As a result of this, “Illusory Revelations ♯ Fire Emblem” follows the basic axis of what I would say are “Realistic characters who suffer from many conflicts and worries in modern-day Japan” in this RPG. It was capturing the feeling of “Fire Emblem” that was the real challenge during the development of this concept, as this is a collaboration.”

“In this PV, many people may find it hard to understand where the essence of “Fire Emblem” comes into play. However, this will be explained more in the future, so please wait for a follow-up to this.”

“Although only four characters appear in the spotlight of this PV, there are more characters (some of which make a quick appearance in the PV) prepared for the future, so please stay tuned!”

“It should also be noted that “Illusory Revelations ♯ Fire Emblem” has given us the opportunity to work with other developers. This time, in the first edition of this creators’ blog, you got to hear comments from me, the top batter of the project. But, we have interviews planned with other ATLUS staff and developers in the future, so we hope everyone will enjoy it!”

  1. Yeah this still doesn’t look like a SMT game OR a FE game. How do you make a game about demons and dungeon crawling + strategy and wars, into a weird anime game set in a modern era that doesn’t look like neither one of the series it’s trying to cross over?
Here’s hoping this game isn’t successful because this looks terrible.

    1. They just said in the interview that more mechanics, especially the Fire Emblem ones, will be revealed later. Pay attention.

    2. Don’t wish for something to just pass on to something and don’t be a jackass because you don’t like something

      1. His last statement is jackassy, but he still has valid points. Points that the developer must think about when making this game.

    3. That’s your opinion and you are entitled to it but how do you know if this game won’t turn out to be great? Atlus never told anyone what direction they were going with this game so why do you feel that you were lied to? Granted it wasn’t the type of game that most gamers were expecting mainly due to the weeaboo influence, the heavy amount of J-Pop and the Persona-like art style it has but still it looks amazing graphically and the combat looks like it will be highly enjoyable. Why prejudge this game so early when there’s still a lot of things that we don’t know about it? A prime example is Super Mario 3D World. Remember when most people was criticizing that game for what it was and how it end up turning out? So just hold tight and see what happens before you end up eating your words along with some crow

    4. Ive read this exact same comment at least 20-30 times since yesterday why does everyone feel the need to repeat whatever the “internets” current most Bullshit opinion is?

  2. Alright, so upon watching this trailer for the third time, there’s definitely Fire Emblem characters in it. There’s Tiki :50 seconds into the trailer, and what looks like a badass Lucina at :17 and 1:49. Also the main character at :19 may be Marth. Here’s hoping the game has more Fire Emblem ties, besides some of the characters (perma-death anyone?).

    1. I think that’s actually Caeda from the first fire emblem. It’d make more sense too since she’s from Marth’s game

        1. Wait- what? We might not be talking about the same character. I’m talking about the girl(/dude) with the evil green eyes, bandanna around their face, short blue hair, and blueish armor. They kind of bare a resemblance to Lucina. They only pops in for about half a second, immediately after frilly pink dress girl. After the trailer (in the direct), there is a more in depth photo of the masked figure. The armor, face disguise, and short blue hair makes me think they are Lucina.

  3. I thought it looked pretty good. We haven’t seen enough gameplay so there’s no way you can judge it yet.

  4. This game looks fucking awesome i really wanna play it. Plus in the Nintendo Direct, Bill said that the game has a everyday life world and a fantasy world that contains the Fire Emblem characters. So the world with everyday life could be the SMT world and the fantasy one could be the FE world. Seriously guys pay attention… -_-

    1. The M for Mature in the rating of the content of the Nintendo Direct was likely Fatal Frame. This is more likely a T.
Only thing is that there’s a girl that strips into her underwear in the trailer.

  5. “Realistic characters who suffer from many conflicts and worries in modern-day Japan”

That makes me worry quite a bit, honestly, it’s weeaboo crap.
The game oozes style and reeks of Persona however, so I’m actually cautiously optimistic.

    1. Yeah this reveal, The Smash Bros Fighter Ballot and that Fatal Frame 5 North American and European localization were the show stealers of the entire Direct. But that Fatal Frame 5 though………😍😍😍

  6. I won’t make anymore opinions on this game until I see more info/footage. But as a lover of both series and Altus working the magic behind this game I’m sure it’ll be an amazing game.

  7. King of the weeaboos

People seem to forget persona is also part of the SMT series. And if they are complaining about it then they clearly never beat one either to know just how dark their story gets as you get farther in. But westerners will always be salty I guess. Just how in the hell can a freaking video game be weeaboo?

All I know is, I’m looking forward to it and I guess will be one of the few people playing it. Can’t wait for it to come out

    1. “People seem to forget persona is also part of the SMT series.”
A lot of SMT fans wish it wasn’t which explains the pure rage going on right now, lol.

      1. The SMT fanbase is the worst Fanbase in all gaming we always fight among ourselves some like the P3 and P4 path the series took (like myself) but others hate it bottom line we don’t like eachother very much
Damn SMT Fans they ruin SMT For the SMT Fans

    2. Ridley, the Angel of Death

I know, right? The video game industry is only as big as it is because of Japan, so it’s roughly a Japanese industry so seeing people hate on video games with obvious Japanese flourish in it is pretty ironic.

  8. The game looked like Persona to me. I was surprised when they said it was SM x FE, because I didn’t recognize any of the characters and nothing screamed Shin Megami OR Fire Emblem in the video.

Regardless, the game looks incredible. Had this not been a SM x FE game, I would still be buying it.

  9. 1. Damn a lot of people are getting hella butthurt over this fame when they know little to nothing and if they would read more will be talked about later
    2. I haven’t played a shin mega mi game but have tried et tian odyssey and I have persona 3 on the psp and I became an instant fan of atlus
    3. I have played fire emblem awakening and haven’t played any of the games before and also became an instant fan
    4. Hopefully I will be getting this and xenoblade chronicles X day one whenever they release in america

  10. It definitely didn’t look the way I first expected. It reminds me of Persona 4 type look to it. Knowing Atlus is developing it, it will probably be a great game. Gameplay is what matters most, but I actually like the anime art style imo.

  11. This is a Jpop Persona game. Looks nothing like Fire Emblem or SMT. A lot of you are talking down to the first post above, but everything he said is true.

However….. I will still buy it because I like Persona like RPG’s… lol
I’m just disappointed that it has nothing to do with SMT or FE. (and cameo’s of certain FE characters does not justify the words “FE crossover”. He should have just said FE cameo’s.)

    1. A crossover does not need to be between Characters To Be a crossover case in poin Xenoblade Chronicles X Which is a Crossover of the Whole Xeno Series, Mechs of Xenogear, Story of Xenosaga, Combat of Xenoblade
despite not having characters of said series hence the japanese name Xenoblade Chronicles Cross
I honestly don’t understand what people expected we weren’t promise anything since the 2013 trailer was just a Concept code trailer which only served to give people the idea of the project but we weren’t show anything, no story, no characters just the Code Concept
That’s why the japanese name of the game is Genei Ibunroku#FE or “The Revelation of Illusion” which pretty much denotes that this is a spin off that takes inspiration of both Franchise Rather than a Universe Crossover
Honestly i’m glad they went with this Cuz i was worry it was gonna be FE characters summoning Demons From the SMT series but this looks like a 50/50 mix of of both franchises yeah it may not have been the Gretty Dark Mature game people Expected but it shows that this game it’s is own entity with potencial

  12. It looks interesting to say the least and knowing Atlus is behind it, I am curious with how they will deal with this crossover and how the game will incorporate the FE aspect but I also hope they keep note of the SMT franchise too unless this Persona vibe is related to SMT though I heard it was much more dark in theme and story.
