Nintendo and SEGA have launched the official website for Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympics which can be viewed here. What it is interesting is they have detailed how amiibo will work in the game. Your amiibo will effectively power up your Mii character with special costumes. This functionality will become available once you’ve unlocked Champions Road The costumer powers up your Mii by giving it better stats for 24 hours.
Here’s the list of amiibo compatible:
- Mario (Super Smash Bros. series)
- Sonic (Super Smash Bros. series)
- Dr. Mario (Super Smash Bros. series)
- Mario (Super Mario series)
- Gold Mario (Super Mario series)
- Classic Colours Mario (Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary)
- Modern Colours Mario (Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary)
I’m tellin’ all of ya…this amiibo thing will not end well fir any Nintendo hardcore gamer. If a game’s too hard, amiibo will make things easier. And we’ll have to see if Nintendo makes another aniibo based game like Amiibo Party, what an offense to the series.
We will never see the end of these gimmicks. They will continue onto the NX and beyond by the way it sells.
Goodbye to all fairness.
You do know that amiibo, for the most part, are optional, right? So if a game is difficult and using an amiibo makes it easier, and you WANT a challenge, just don’t use an amiibo.
Smash Bros.: optional; train a figure to fight like you do
Mario Kart 8: optional; unlocks exclusive Mii costumes
Hyrule Warriors: optional; unlocks exclusive weapons if a LoZ figure
Mario Party 10: optional; unlocks bonus boards
Captain Toad: optional; places extra Toad icon on each puzzle
Splatoon: optional; gives extra challenges and exclusive weapons and gear
Codename: Steam: optional; summons Robin, Lucina, Ike, and Marth to use in missions
Super Mario Maker: optional; unlocks mystery mushroom costumes, ALL of which can be earned without figures
Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival: required just to get past the title screen
I think those are all the notable examples. See, only ONE game needs amiibo, and every other game in fact does NOT make a game easier, but adds challenges (try doing Splatoon’s final boss with a roller if you think amiibo make a game easier).
you are right, but would be nice to get some of the extra stuff another way, but for the most part it is miniscule.
I like them… I mean, there was talk in the beginning about the quality, but I think it is very good. And I bought all the Animal Crossing Amiibo for my daughter and those are very nicely made
Yeah. Sucks there is a shit load of alternate costumes for my Mii in Mario Kart 8 that I’ll never be able to unlock because I’m only after a certain number of amiibo from the Smash series.
Yet, those mii costumes aren’t that great really… missing nothing
It’s not that but the fact I can’t unlock everything in the game that’s actually available for free, more or less.
I think ising any other amiibo in hyrule warriors either gives you hearts or tupees, which makes me fear for other Zelda titles.
Mario Party 10? That one’s unfair. It’s entire boards, nothing small. I just feel like Nintendo is slowly getting more and more greedy with amiibo, and it takes on a larger role more and more. And it’s not like the Wii U is selling well, so they may as well try to saueeze out whatever they can woth amiibo.
My only problem with amiibo is that I’m running out of room in my house to display them
Who honestly cares for these Mario Vs Sonic at the Olympic games? They can’t sell that well to warrant making more can they?
Apparently they are since this is the 5th game in this series so far.
It’s not listed but I’m sure Silver Mario does the same thing as the others. Basically if you have any form of Mario or the Sonic amiibo you’ll be good to go.
