To celebrate Pokémon’s 20th anniversary, a special Super Bowl commercial will be aired. It has been posted on the The Official Pokémon YouTube channel and you can also watch it below:
You can also join the discussion on Twitter with the hashtag #Pokemon20. Here’s the full press release:
The Pokémon Company International today unveiled a new TV commercial that will air during Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, February 7. The ad, shot in Rio de Janeiro, explores ambition, drive, and training, concepts that every Pokémon Trainer is familiar with. It celebrates the millions of Pokémon fans around the world who will enjoy identifying all of the hidden Pokémon references in the ad. It ends with a call to action for all those who strive to achieve their dreams: Train On. A 30-second version of the ad will be aired at the beginning of the third quarter of Super Bowl 50. An extended version can be viewed at Pokemon.com/20.
“For 20 years, the Pokémon world has inspired fans to train hard and have fun,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of Consumer Marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “This ad is reflective of that passion, and I can’t think of a bigger stage to share this story than the Super Bowl.”
Made by Omelet, a Los Angeles-based creative agency, the Pokémon 20th TV commercial will also be featured in the upcoming CBS special Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials. This annual show, which will air on February 2 at 8:00 p.m. ET, revisits fan-favorite commercials from past Super Bowls and also gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Pokémon Super Bowl advertisement.
The ad is part of a yearlong campaign celebrating 20 years of Pokémon. First introduced in Japan in 1996 with the video games Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green for the Nintendo Game Boy system, Pokémon has delighted fans of all ages around the world for two decades. With more than 275 million video games sold worldwide, 21.5 billion TCG cards shipped to 74 countries, and an animated series spanning 18 seasons, Pokémon is one of the most successful entertainment brands in the world. More details can be found at Pokemon.com/20. Fans visiting the site throughout the year will find information about monthly Mythical Pokémon distributions, retail events, special products, messages from some of Pokémon’s biggest fans, and the upcoming Pokémon Photo Booth app.
Pokémon. Twenty years. Train On.

The CG pikachu at the end spooked me
That kids eyes were even scarier!
Lol, this was a cool ad though… I liked “PKMN Go’s” ad better. :P
Not bad… Not bad at all…
I read your comment in Dunban’s voice lol…
I agree.
This, is friggin amazing.
This just reminds me that Pokemon aren’t real :c
this is the most amazingly Pokemom commercial i’ve ever seen in my life..
That’s nice… SO WHEN ARE WE GETTING A NEW POKEMON GAME!? GOD DAMN IT!
Pokémon Go and Pokkén Tournament are on the horizon and are slated to be released this year
Hopefully he’s talking about a proper Pokemon game. Pokken Tournament and PKMN Go really don’t interest me or 4 other people I know who love Pokemon, two of whom own Wii U. I guess I was expecting something like the original game boy series but for home consoles by now. 😢
I said MAIN series, not lack luster spin offs
Actually you didnt, you just said a “new Pokemon game.”
2016 is gonna be a legendary year for The Pokémon Company, Bandai-Namco, and Nintendo.
I would’ve liked this more if they showed more of actual Pokemon. For real, this is more of a Nike commercial than Pokemon.
The way it cuts at the end makes me feel like they’ll announce something along with the commercial…
This is real awesome. This should really build anticipation for both Pokémon Go and Pokkén Tournament. I hope Nintendo has a similar plan in mind for the NX home console if it is releasing next year as rumors are suggesting
Gotta love the Akira-sounding music XD So much hype XD
It does look like there may be an announcement at the end… Like, they’re building hype from the ad, and then it looks like it’ll cut to something at the end… :O
I actually really liked this commercial. Nothing cheesy like usual Nintendo ones, I just wished the CG was better. These look too out of place.
Now THAT is what a call a fucking ADVERTISEMENT. Good game nintendo. Good fucking game.
Here’s to another 20 years!
Of course the one series that gets an awesome superbowl commercial is a game that tries to cater to children but has more adults & teenagers in the fanbase than actual children. But if it comes to games like Xenoblade Chronicles X, Hyrule Warriors for Wii U, Fatal Frame 5, Bayonetta 2, what do they get? A month or so of marketing with no pre-advertising 3 to 6 months in advance & no post-advertising 6 months to a year. You poor saps like to use Bayonetta 2 being in a Playboy magazine but don’t realize that’s the best it actually got. Meanwhile, XCX & Fatal Frame 5 (Bayonetta 2 got some commercials on those late nights, too) got commercials airing late at night on Adult Swim where most people that might actually be into those games & can get them are most likely asleep. Then came Splatoon. Oh look! A child friendly game that got marketing 24/7, 7 days a week, and got advertising months in advance & still getting some advertising months after it’s initial release.
As much as I fucking hate to say this, Ubishit is fucking smart to not even bother with any M rated games on the console because Nintendo isn’t going to lift a fucking finger to help them sell their games. EA, Ubishit, Crapcom, Activisuals, etc should run far away as possible from Nintendo like they did when the original PlayStation released. Of course, EA saw the writing on the wall & has already effectively done that. Ugh! As a Nintendo fan, I fucking HATED saying that but if the shoe fits… I wish I could go back to being a blind Nintendo fanboy like alexsmith113, Brandon Hardacre, & a few others but nope. I refuse to go back to being Nintendo’s little bitch that buys whatever scraps they throw to me day 1 like some little corporate slave.
lol
Ok

The Pikachu looks really cool, but all the other Pokemon look out of place to me.
