If you were playing Splatoon last night, you may have noticed that you weren’t able to access the Wii U shooter’s online features. This is because the network service was suspended for a few hours to undergo “emergency server maintenance.” Fortunately, though, online is back up and all of the game’s network services are operating normally. Time to dive back in and prep for next week’s Pokemon-themed Splatfest!

This is why Splatoon needs a better single player campaign, so I can play that when online is down. I mean, what do they expect me to do instead, go out to the movies…actually, wait, Deadpool just released in theaters. BRB.
If you’re done with the single player, buy the Amiibo to get a few worthy challenges.
I did all the amiibo challenges a week or two after launch, and yeah, they were pretty fun. The Splatoon amiibos are the only ones I own besides Kirby, actually.

I wonder what they meant by “emergency maintenance.” It makes it sound like a critical, game-breaking bug was found.
Sheesh. I hope Nintendo finally figures out online next gen. Thankfully Splatoon has been solid.
It’s embarrassing to see Xenoblade X disconnecting multiple times for me, and now this.
It seems like Nintendo is expected to be Jesus of gaming.
Compared to what I have seen of the other 2 that both now charges for their online features, Nintendo network has been very solid.
Though there is always room for improvement, and I do hope Nintendo brings some subscription services worth something without hiding basic online functions behind pay wall.
We expect them to deliver a full quality experience like they do for offline play. Why can’t we expect that?
If they were to charge to give me a perfect connection, I’d happily pay if that’s what it takes.

I would NEVER pay for online-services. It does not matter if its PSN, Xbox Live or whatever. On PC you also have free Online…So you would be pretty alone standing there in the “I would gladly pay for online-services”-corner…Since guess what? even my GF says she would never pay for such a thing. And that is HER decision.
If Nintendo does that, they will be finally gone. Maybe its better for the worse than. I guess the good times of gaming are over.
~*Why do people use PC & it’s free online as an excuse for why paying for online is a bad thing? It’s a PC that’s vastly more powerful than a console so games for it don’t put as much strain on a game’s servers unlike games on consoles. Besides, it’s not like you are paying ONLY for online. If you knew anything about PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live, you’d know there is more to those than just online functionality like discounts & cloud storage for your save data. And the best part is you can buy all of that for just 50 bucks a year. Paying 50 bucks for an entire year is nothing to get upset about unless you are making like a penny a day at work.*~

The end of cheap gamers is more like it. I would expect that someone with that train of thought probably plays games via illegal methods just because it’s free.

That is done on purpose…since the WiiU is not a 24/7-connected console like PS4/xbox One. You only have 2 ARM-processors. One has to be used for the games Netcode while you are online…and one has to be used for downloads in the background and the OS of WiiU. No magic.
So they decided to make it a timed thing.
If it weren`t timed you could NOT use the internetbrowser, when you needed to since you would have to log out first and/or wait until its logged out. See? So they made instead a timer saying, each 30 minutes you will be kicked out automatically if you don´t do an important thing on the online-mode. Making sure, once you are out you can use the internetbrowser and/or the Miiverse/other features which have to use this otherwhise by the netcode used ARM-processor. You cannot even use features such as the friendslist or any other thing, since the complete Home-button is LOCKED while being online in XCX.
