The critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Game Boy is being remade by fans using assets from the Nintendo 64 hit The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Online gaming publication Siliconera reports that the recreation features a storyline based on the original game and the manga series and also includes some unique content. It all looks a little… depthy.
Too bad Nintendo isn’t smart enough to let these guys that are making this & have made AM2R put these games on Nintendo systems for a price & letting them take a small profit from the proceeds while Nintendo themselves get the majority of profit. So much free work that Nintendo could take advantage of, too. Instead, they’d rather take the more “No! It’s mine! Mine! MIIIIIIINE!!!” approach like Freddy Krueger flipping out because Jason took his kill. In fact, these guys could be future employees for Nintendo. Maybe even let them do more remakes like these in the future.
AM2R was so well made and aesthetically so perfect that many Metroid fans consider it canon in the series. It’s basically a free game for Nintendo to sell like you said. It just kind if blows my mind that Nintendo missed the opportunity to reach out to the small team and hire them to make it an official game.
Exactly- the people behind it clearly have the passion for it, otherwise they would never have started it, let alone finished.
I have AM2R on my flash drive, waiting to be played, but I’m playing through SM64 Last Impact first, which is also very well put together.

Exactly. That & Nintendo won’t lose any money from the development process since these guys essentially did all of the heavy lifting. All Nintendo would have to do is put the shit on their eShops.

Looks like another mod I need to get ahold of.
This just makes me want a remake of some of the old gameboy games even more. A lot of people want remakes on the iconic console games, but I think a lot more can be done to the 2D Zelda games.
