Video: Rainway App Dev Streams Witcher 3 To Nintendo Switch

Andrew Sampson, a developer for the upcoming Rainway app for Nintendo Switch, has posted a video to his Twitter followers showing Witcher 3 being played on the Switch’s screen. The app will allow players to stream their games from their PC to their Nintendo Switch. No word on a release date yet but we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more.

This Rainway app is utterly pointless since you’ll need a PC or laptop to even use it. Might as well just use the PC or laptop. And if you have one of those computers with an HDMI plug-in, you can just hook it up directly to your television. Unless it actually downloads the game onto the Switch, you ain’t going very far with your Switch.

While I will admit this is pretty cool, it’s just… Why bother?

      1. The appeal is about the same as Off-TV play on WiiU. Nothing big, but it’s an option where before there was none.

In both cases the main device needs to be close by, running the game.
Advantage is you play on a separate handheld device, freeing up the main screen for other entertainment. (i. e. Netflix while playing something grindy), or for others to use. (i. e. keep playing in the same room even if your significant other’s favourite show came on)

You & Brandy have good points if someone only has one PC in their house & one television & have to share those things with 2 other people.

I guess it could be helpful if you have to share your PC or laptop if there is only one in the house.

      2. I doubt the computer will be much use while running the Witcher 3. I doubt to people will be able to use the PC that is in the process of streaming to the switch… unless you’re using a ryzen 7 or an i7 or I-9 with dual monitors.

    2. You basically stream over Wi-Fi so you could have your switch any where in the world (as long as your PC is on) and play whatever game you have installed on your PC and play it on the switch as long as you have an internet connection.

      1. Realistically, anything slower than your local area network will introduce lag to the point of unplayability. See game streaming services for this point in action.

        In other words,
unless we’re talking turn-based games, you’re limited to being in and around your house.

      2. Input lag*
That is to say, there will be a significant amount of time between something happening, you reacting to it, and the game receiving your input.

Any anticipated input is fine, people adapt. But essentially you cannot react, and reacting is required for most games made.

    3. It’s not pointless. It’s just not a HUGE BREAKTHROUGH. It’s for a niche of gamers but a friend of mine for instance would probably use it. I can’t as Rainway doesn’t run on a mac. But if it would, it would be a nice opportunity to play through the games I got lying on there and never feel like playing due to me just preferring the couch as a gaming environment.
