EDGE Reveals The 100 Greatest Video Games 2017 Edition

Respected UK gaming publication EDGE has published a huge feature in the latest issue of the magazine counting down their favourite games of all-time. As you would expect the list is slightly controversial as everyone’s opinions differ, but it’s a solid list. You may or may not be surprised by the game at number one. Here’s their favourite games!

“Welcome to the 2017 edition of The 100 Greatest Videogames. If you’re not familiar with the format, here are our rules. In compiling this list, we worked to simple criteria: all formats – portable, touchscreen, console, PC, whatever – were eligible; we could include only a single entry from any series that features straight-up sequels; and each game had to stand up today rather than making the cut for reasons of nostalgia or historic significance.”

“Not all of the games featured here are new, however. In fact, some of the most invigorating parts of the curation process involved pulling out and replaying a number of the most seasoned titles from the Edge archives. Hopefully this much-argued-over collection will inspire you in the same way.”

  1. Imo fire emblem fates should be replaced by the vastly superior fire emblem path of radiance because I loved the story and game play a lot more than fates. It’s just a shame getting a copy is extremely expensive.

Tellius prequel where you play as Ike’s father, Greil, for fire emblem switch?

    1. Was about to say the same. I disagree with everything in this list. Ocarina of time is still the better Zelda game. Dark Souls is certainly not a 2nd best game of all time. Spots 5 to 1 are all newer games. They either can’t remember playing games in their childhood or are youngsters who started gaming on a PS3, which ultimately makes them unqualified to do such a list. Or they just think old games suck. And if you place Tetris in the top ten just because it’s addictive, you could fill all of the top ten spots with crap like Candy Crush, Flappy Bird and co.
The list should be called “The 100 Most Popular Video Games in our Editorial Team (That We Still Remember) “.

      1. Aside from the Dark Souls part, I agree with everything you said. I’ve never played Dark Souls so I can’t give an opinion on that. And yes, I still place Ocarina above breath of the wild.

  2. Metroid Prime should not be that low on the list. Personally, it should be placed within the top 10. If not, within the top 20. But that’s it. Not lower.

  3. My problem with this list by looking at the top ten:

Dark souls is not the 2nd best game.
Tetris is not better than TLoZOoT.
Bloodborn is not a top ten candidate
Tetris is not better than Super Mario Galaxy
    Half Life 2 … … Well deserved

Other complaint… Final fantasy is a must have on a top 100 list… But not 12 over 6,7,9 (although 5 is my favorite°^°)

Skyrim is not supposed to be in the 30 tier when Tetris and bloodborn are in the top ten…

  4. TETRIS!!!
    Ohh for f***s Sake

“It’s a classic”, “every one on the Gameboy played it”, “it’s remembered by everyone”, “yeah it was kinda fun”

So obviously it deserves to be in the top 10 right? Right??

So why, just why isn’t Pokemon Yellow IN THE TOP 100???
    Isn’t it a classic
Didn’t everyone in the Gameboy play it
Isn’t it highly remembered by people who played it in their childhood?
If it wasn’t then Pokemon Go Wouldn’t have been able to turn the world up side down last summer…

You can’t place Tetris higher then Pokemon in my opinion. Because Pokemon is just as much as a classic as Tetris and I’d say it’s even more remembered then Tetris. And I’d say it’s more fun. What shitty list
