Skyrim On Nintendo Switch Currently Won’t Support Mods

As you know from the Direct we received a stunning Skyrim trailer last night. The game also finally has a release date and is coming November 17th. However, today we have received some slightly disappointing news and that’s the game won’t support mods. It hasn’t been ruled out entirely, but it certainly won’t launch with them.

The answer comes from Bethesda’s own Pete Hines who told me the that mods are currently unplanned for Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch when it comes out later this year.

    1. mods is wht makes a game last alot longer for u, looooong after u done everything u wanted to do in the game. New characters with great backstories and VA, massive new worlds ppl created with its own lore, making ur character hav less “clay” like look to them and actually look high quality of todays standards, etc.
I will only agree tht Mods dont matter IF the person has never played this game before. If u hav played it through once or a few times then mods are almost mandatory to make u come back and purchase it again.
But achievements/trophies? now THAT I agree on.

Pfft. The only thing pointless is a good majority of your comments. Least mods & achievements serve a purpose that actually benefit people that want them. Now go sit down in the corner with the rest of the selfish/self-centered idjits that think something shouldn’t have something because YOU don’t like it. Go on! Git!

    1. I feel exactly the same! It feels like the same thing as “Cheat Codes”. I don’t understand removing elements of the challenge from games. I’m also not into all of the “Building” games out right now, so maybe that’s a factor. The only Minecraft I’ve played is story mode, haha.

This will be just the game I need it to be as is :)

      1. Skyrim mods are WAY different. You can add items to the game, add areas, full maps, new armor to earn or craft, new weapons to find, fix bugs the devs haven’t fixed, increase the graphic quality of the game, add new NPC companions. Modding is the BEST part about Skyrim and it’s the only reason the game is still crazy popular today.

Looking on the Nexus and what’s on the mod list for special edition, there are hardly any cheat mods (infinite gold, God mode, super strength, special spell books that make you stupid strong).

      2. jon3s115 thanks for setting me straight, for real! I thought it was just new skins and beefing up your character. It’s still probably not for me, as this game takes enough of my time as is, but I’m glad i actually know what’s going on, haha.

(Couldn’t figure out how to reply to your reply.

      3. Most of the mods I used were cosmetic and not really a big deal not having when having a handheld play something that looks like Skyrim is already mindblowing to my 8 year old game boy toting self.. However, I like to make a lot of characters and had a mod that let me skip the intro and start out in different locations with little roleplaying elements that kept making a new character fresh. I will miss this terribly.

      1. That was on PC though, because the original UI wasn’t designed for mice and keyboards, but controllers. It’s not that bad.

    1. good luck buying tons of amiibos tht only give a few weps and armor. Mods can give u ANYTHING ur heart desires. Be it more content, make the game even harder with new enemies, dragons, etc. Make ur characters look good, etc.
      I still like Amiibo though.

      1. I guess that’s your 1-D view on life, because not everyone want’s to take their video game on the go nor has time to play it everywhere. Again, I’ll pass on this and will rather get the X1 version that actually has mods. I want to have fun with the game, and the mods I’ve seen are amazing. Same thing with Fall Out 4. X1 seems to have the best mods for that game, but the P4 version overall without mods seems to be the best for both Sky and Fall. Either way, Nintendo does the 1 step forward and two steps back approach. This seems somewhat like it.

    1. at this point I prefer Mods > Portability
DOnt get me wrong. Portability is still amazing but if u hav played the game many times or for loooooong hours then mods are almost a must to keep the game fresh and exciting.

  1. While mods are a cool addition for many games I personally don’t care much for them. They either end up being something purely cosmetic or utterly game breaking that let’s you EZ mode through the whole game. I’m sure Nintendo probably also has some misgivings about them as a potential back door way for people to start modding the console itself. I say leave modding to the PCs and let the other consoles try to compete with PCs, Nintendo’s killer feature is portability and that’s way better than mods any day of the week.

    1. Except mods nowadays are mainly used for making a game infinitely better by adding new areas, items, characters, etc. by the players. It’s literally DLC made by the gaming community.

But sure, let’s go with “game-breaking.”

As much as mods don’t matter for the Switch, they’re still very important to a game.

      1. well mods can b “game breaking” if u install too much of them then the game will keep crashing in certain areas (even if u optimize ur load order). Trust me it sucks. lol

  2. I do hope they greenlight the mods.

I don’t look forward to any ENB mods cause I know damn well the Switch won’t be able to do any of that, but I do want to get the chance to download new weapons, NPCs, armor sets, and maybe even that new story mod they’re making.

    1. Mods can add new enemies, new companions with backstories (unlike Skyrims companions tht follow u who hav very little), new massive areas tht hav their own lore, fix bug/glitches tht devs missed or wont fix, or if u want to b silly then u can turn all the dragons to Thomas the train engine, or anytime u do a stealth attack u scream out “Surprise! mothafucka!”, etc.
The possibility with mods are almost endless. But I recommend playing the game as much as u can as it was intended then once u hav ur fill then add mods……if Nintendo agrees to add mod support.

  3. Most of the mods are perverted. Probably why they aren’t getting them. It’s a lot of effort from the developer and the publisher to police which mods are and are not allowed. It’s just extra money they don’t want to spend on the port and I don’t blame them. Mods on the Ps4 are boring and limited, and really mods on the PC aren’t that much better. The best mods they had were upgrading the textures and water effects and stuff like that. But ever since the upgraded version of Skyrim released all those mods have become obsolete…. Anyways, just my two cents.

    1. King Kalas X3 {I only buy exclusives that interest me on Switch. For everything else that interests me, there is PS4.}

For the many, many people that like mods, I hope they green light the use of them at some point. Of course, they better tell people something soon or there might be a lot of people that won’t bother getting the game on Switch.

Fuuuuuuck! I did it again! That comment was meant to be a reply to the article itself, not to be a reply to a fellow commenter! Well since I am replying to you, who cares if any of the mods are perverted? Skyrim is rated M for Mature. If people want to use pervy mods, that’s their right.

      1. I have nothing against perverted mods. Some of them are funny as hell. I’m just more of a story guy and like my game to maintain a more serious tone and follow the devs story line. I used to use mods all the time in Skyrim but only the ones that enhanced the graphics/textures. And once the special edition released all those mods became obsolete. To each their own, but unfortunately I do believe the PC will be the only place to really experience mods in Skyrim. PS4 mods are lacking

I like the idea of mods but I’d definitely avoid the ones that would effect the story… at least for my first play through, anyway. And you’re probably right. With Nintendo publishing the Switch version, the chances of mods being allowed are very low.

I totally forgot that Nintendo published the Switch version. Yeah. Sorry but mods are very unlikely with Nintendo’s claws in the game. You either play the game their way or not at all. If you think otherwise…
