UK publication Games Radar recently caught up with the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and series producer Eiji Aonuma to talk to them about The Legend of Zelda timeline and where Breath of the Wild fits into it.
“I wouldn’t say that we’re not concerned with the timeline,” Fujibayashi began. “It’s obviously something that we know is very important to people, and they do a lot of research on. But I think at this point, we’re not really at the stage where we want to talk about where Breath of the Wild is in the timeline. I think, as with the pixelated food it’s something that at this point we want to leave up to people’s imaginations.”
“We published a book with the timeline, but we definitely got comments from users saying, ‘Is this really accurate? I think this should be this way. It’s different,'” Aonuma said. “And history is always kind of imaginative. It’s left to the person who writes the book. So that’s how we approach it as well. It’s not necessarily that we come up with a game and think, ‘Oh, this is where it fits in the timeline.’ Honestly, lately, we’re kind of scared to say exactly where things are in the timeline for that reason. But we like to leave things to the imagination most of the time.”

Jokes apart. Even if that guy pointed out some other evidence but one second later he showed more things to say that this Zelda is in the Hero fallen timeline. So I think this Zelda game is in that timeline.
Yeah it’s still up for debate whether or not it’s in the Downfall or Child timeline (rip Adult timeline). I just don’t like it when people use that Game Theory as “proof” since it has so many inconsistencies. I personally think it’s either Child or some kind of unified timeline, but probably more likely the former than the latter.

I think BoTW is in the Meme Timeline
Anyone ever watch a Game Theory video that seemed remotely believable?
It’s almost like Nintendo doesn’t actually care about continuity and the games don’t really have any.
In other words, it doesn’t fit in to the timeline.

If you are gonna make an official timeline, stick to your guns & stick to what you’ve done to explain where each game fits. If anyone has a problem with your official timeline, sucks for them as it’s not their product but yours. Some people are going to hate it regardless of what you do because some people are so attached to their own personal headcanon that they’ll ignore it no matter what unless your timeline fits with theirs. Just look at the Star Wars fanbase: a lot of people hate the prequel & sequel trilogies because it doesn’t fit their own personal headcanon. Thankfully, Disney tells these people “We’re sorry you don’t like it but it’s our creation, so we’ll do what we feel is right for the franchise’s story going forward, or backward, from the original trilogy. If you like what we’re doing, great. If you don’t, well we’re not pointing a gun to your head to watch the movies before or after the original trilogy. Thank you & have a good day.”
So, Aonuma, do what you feel is right for the timeline as some will love it & some will hate it regardless of what you do. With that said, I don’t care which timeline it fits into, I just want an official word on it already.
