The hard-working team over at Psyonix have outlined their plans for Rocket League in the Spring. There’s a lot coming to the game and you’ll no doubt want to check out this post for the full details. What is encouraging for Nintendo Switch owners is that this specific version will see both visual and performance updates. Those are outlined below.
Switch Performance & Visual Quality Updates
- Performance Mode – 900p (Docked) / 720p (Handheld) @ 60 FPS with infrequent dynamic resolution scaling
- Quality Mode – Native 1080p (Docked) / 720p (Handheld) @ 30 FPS with added visual effects
did they fix the split screen resolution not to drop far below 720p? hm
Heck yea, thanks rocket league development team!
Fantastic news. I’m satisfied with the performance and visual quality as it is now but I’d be delighted to see an improvement. And whilst there is no way I’d touch the “Quality Mode” as Rocket League is a game where high framerate is crucial, I’m glad to see the choice there for those who would like to take it. I think quality vs performance mode is going to become a bit of a theme of Switch releases going forward, and if that’s true it’s going to be great to have that choice (even if both choices are compromises, at least we get to choose which compromise we mind less).
The rest of the “Roadmap” is also very encouraging – particularly the tournaments, cross-platform party and “progression updates” – and I think Rocket League is set for another phenomenal year. I look forward to clocking hundreds more hours with this great game!
I’m honestly surprised it’s not a common thing with consoles. I mean on PC you’ve been able to adjust settings for as long as I can remember on games. I see no reason why consoles couldn’t have a more user-friendly version like that. “Quality” vs “Performance”, like an RPG, I’d way rather see quality unless it had constant dips and a more frantic action based game of course I’d rather have performance.
I mean of course, there could be three switches too, “Quality”, “Normal”, “Performance” especially with the varying ways in which consoles are basically just PCs these days.
Fabulous news. I’ve been playing this game a lot, first time. And it will be nice to see some improvements.
My brother became obsessed with this game when I bought it on Switch and invited him over to play it locally. He’ll be thrilled about this news.
I tip my hat off to Panic Button! for porting Rocket League to the Switch. I’m glad that RL is gonna bump the docked resolution up to Super HD at 60fps… 900p, that is. Not only that, they will add the quality performance to 1080p (again in docked mode) at 30fps with additional effects. This Spring, Rocket League for the Switch is gonna be a whole lot better than before.
Super HD?
People said they s*cked, and only Bethesda and Ninty themselves could push the system. And even back then it was impressive.
Holy fuck yess yess yess psyonix your genius thanks I’m buying Rocket league right now.
Ah. Good to hear. Now, where’s yours Doom? The random sound glitches give me a headache and sometimes I can barely see what’s on screen.
I think more Switch games should support features like this: Have two performance modes of your choosing so you can have both quality and efficiency in one setting.
