Platinum Games: We’ve Done “A Lot Of Intel Gathering” For Wonderful 101 On Nintendo Switch

The excellent Wii U exclusive from Platinum Games, The Wonderful 101, has been teased and rumoured for a release on the Nintendo Switch for a while now. Many are wondering whether or not they will get the chance to play an updated version of the game for Nintendo’s current system. Video Game Chronicles recently chatted to Platinum Games studio head Atsushi Inaba at E3 to find out if it is, or if it isn’t, coming to the platform. Here’s what Mr. Inaba told the gaming publication:

“The Wonderful 101 is obviously something that we hold near and dear to our hearts. And so we’ve talked to a lot of different people about what it is and what it means,” Inaba said.

“We’ve done a lot of intel gathering and the only thing that I can say right now is that I’m glad we did. I’m glad that we talked to a lot of different people.”

  1. Not interested in a port of the original, that would be a totally meh release to me, but a new game would be great.

  2. I’d buy that. And hopefully, they will make a great sequel. The Wonderful 201, not 102 unless it’s co-op. Of course, co-op would be cool.

  3. I loved W101 so much and especially back when it got released and I needed to convince everyone that the Gamepad was a good thing to have, I could totally live with it playing such a major role. Today whenever I go back, I just have problems getting into it again. Fighting never feels as fluid and seamless like in other PG games. W101 was especially liek a sequel-series to Viewtiful Joe to me, so I kinda expected similar vibes, which I got – with the exception of the controls.
And porting this concept over to the Switch, where you might have to make it work when playing only with a Joypad might not really improve it. I would say, this might be the only game EVER that could actually profit from voice control. Imagine how much quicker it would work if you could just say “bomb” and you’d get the bomb. Of course I wouldn’t play it as my wife might send me into a mental hospital if they she sees me playing like that and would immediately take custody for the kids … well good that they ain’t doing that (and RIP all dads ever playing KINECT in front of their -until then – loved ones).

Well, to get back on topic: him saying they love the game, they collected intel from many sources and they’re glad they did – that sounds like they decided not to do it and are glad they can save the money and ressources as they understood there might not be as many people sharing their vision. And the fact that they teased this 1 or 2 years ago and never got back again emphasizes that.
